Chapter 11 - Guests In The Middle Of The Night

One night, Seira was sitting at her desk in her room. She was busy writing something on her desk, her face looking so focused and serious with what she was writing at the moment. It could be seen that she was writing on several sheets of paper.

Knock knock

While she was focusing on what she was writing, suddenly a knock on the door was heard followed by a man's voice from behind the door.

"Seira, open the door. I have something to talk to you about," said the man who Seira recognized as Harvey's voice.

In a hurry, Seira picked up the sheet of paper on her desk and tried to hide it. "Wait a minute," she replied and put the sheet of paper she was writing on into the closet.

She then opened the door and saw Harvey standing there. His tall body made Seira raise her head slightly to look at him.

"What took you so long to open the door?" he asked as he walked into the maid's room. Seira moved to the side, giving the man a way to enter.

He looked around him, the maid's room was small and cramped but quite clean and well-maintained. Harvey also looked at the table, where there was a lot of paper scattered around and the ink on the pen was still quite wet.

"Are you writing something?"

"Yeah, I'm learning to write. I just don't know what to write," Seira replied.

Not all servants can read or write. Usually they come from among the poor who cannot get a proper education. They work as servants or laborers in the fields to make ends meet, even though they have to work all the time without stopping. Since there were no other jobs that could or would employ people like them.

"Can you write?" Harvey asked again.

"Only a little. I'm still learning, Lord Harvey," she replied, knowing Harvey was lying about her still being at a loss for what to write about.

'Obviously the pen on the table was still quite wet, which meant she had written something earlier but it was no longer on the table. Even the trash can is still empty,' thought the knight who was very meticulous about his surroundings.

But he did not say anything and chose to remain silent, who knows what he was planning.

"So what brings you here?" Seira asked him in her usual calm voice.

"Tonight me and the others are going away to do some things. So you'll be at the mansion alone until probably midnight or morning comes," he replied explaining his purpose for coming.

The red-haired woman nodded her head, she understood the situation and promised not to let anyone enter the mansion.

"The guards will keep watch at the gate. Don't you dare bring anyone else into the mansion, especially that dark lover of yours. They will report to me if you dare to sneak someone into the mansion, do you understand?"

"Okay, I understand that. I can't possibly do all that, so you don't have to worry about it."

Even so, Harvey still did not seem to trust Seira completely. He then walked out of her room with Seira in tow.

"Then we'll leave first, we'll be back later!" Albert said as he waved and followed Harvey and Leonard with his horse.

After making sure Harvey and the others left the mansion, Seira closed the door and locked it. She breathed a sigh of relief and returned to her room.

"That means I have enough time to finish this," she said and took the paper she used to write earlier from the closet.

A neat and beautiful writing was seen on the dull paper. Seira then continued her writing.

It could be seen how she was very good at writing and reading, different from other servants.

At exactly 10pm, Seira finished her writing. She quickly rolled it up and tied it with a blue ribbon and put it away.

"Since they're all away, that means I don't have anything to do for now. I'd better go to bed," she muttered then turned off the light and lay down on her bed.

Her body felt so tired, fortunately that night she was able to rest early without any interruptions.

She closed her eyes and fell into a deep sleep.

THUD!

Seira wrinkled her forehead, she felt like she heard the sound of something falling in the kitchen. Not only that, there was also the sound of several pairs of footsteps coming from the direction of the kitchen.

"They're back already?" muttered Seira as she rubbed her eyes and looked at the clock on the wall that showed midnight.

CRASH!

She gasped in surprise and immediately sat up. Somehow her instincts told her that the voice was not coming from the three knights but someone else.

"There's no way Albert would make such a commotion. Plus the footsteps that were heard were not just one pair but more."

The servant woman knew about Albert's habit of looking for food in the middle of the night. But she had told Albert to come to her room if he was hungry, and that had been the case for the past few days.

Feeling suspicious, Seira quickly got out of bed and opened her wardrobe. She took something from underneath her pile of dresses and then slowly walked out of her room with a candle in her hand.

'Are they intruders? God, this is beyond my expectations. Aren't the guards supposed to be guarding the mansion? Then how did intruders get in?' she thought suspiciously as she continued to walk carefully.

And sure enough, when she was at the kitchen door, she saw two strange men shuffling around the kitchen. Seira couldn't see their faces because it was too dark in there.

But she was sure, those two men were neither the guards of the mansion nor the knights.

'They must be thieves who entered the mansion from the backyard. That's why they were in the kitchen. I must notify the guards in front before they find out my whereabouts,' Seira thought at that time.

When she intended to leave the kitchen area, the candle she was carrying slightly spilled from its container and hit Seira's hand.

Seira, who was surprised, reflexively dropped the candle in her hand due to the heat on her skin.

CLANK!

The loud sound of the candle dropping made the two mysterious men immediately turn their heads towards her. The candle went out, making the surrounding area dark. Only the dim light from the candles in the vicinity.

'Oh no...'

Before she could escape, the thieves grabbed her arm and pulled her into the kitchen by force before finally...

"Get away from me!"

BLAM!

Shutting the kitchen door.
