"Will you be okay here?"
Auri removed his gaze from the dusty table and gave Maryam a nod. "Yes, thank you."
They were inside an old storage room in the fortress. It was barely larger than a pantry with dust and cobwebs clinging on every surface. The room had telltale signs of neglect. Crates stacked upon each other on one side, while a few sacks lined the uneven wall. The only piece of furniture was a dusty table and an empty wooden shelf.
"It's cramped in here, though," Maryam said. "This storage room hasn't been in use since we started using the larger one to store our foods. Why don't you just stay in my sister's clinic? I'm sure she wouldn't mind."
Auri shook his head and smiled. "I'm not a patient anymore. And I don't want to hinder your sister's work in the clinic now that she's back. There could be other sick people who need the bed other than me."
Maryam smiled in understanding, but her eyes still had concern in them.
