Chapter 44 - Chapter 44: The Power of Observation Haki

"Ong!!!!"

At a certain moment, Ethan suddenly found himself in a peculiar state. His whole body felt almost transparent, as though he could sense every movement within a radius of hundreds of meters around him. Every detail, every nuance—even the tiny snowballs that were relentlessly hurled in his direction—became clear and vivid.

Moreover, these snowballs appeared to be frozen in time, suspended in mid-air as if held by an invisible force. In that instant, Ethan realized with exhilaration, "Observation Haki has been achieved!"

With his newfound ability, Ethan effortlessly dodged the incoming snowballs, moving with a grace and precision that astonished everyone around him. He continued to throw snowballs at Mikoto, who had not yet awakened her own Observation Haki, and then, with a focused thought, he opened his attribute panel. There, he saw a new extra skill in the skill column:

[Observation Haki (1/1000, entry level)]

Ethan's eyes widened as he mused aloud, "Huh? The upper limit for entry-level proficiency is 1000? That's ten times higher than my Chakra Refining Technique!" He paused, considering the implications, "Does this mean that each subsequent stage will also be at least ten times greater—maybe even more? It will take a lot longer to perfect this skill or even break its limit!"

The realization made him feel a slight headache of anticipation. However, given that this skill was not only rare but also inherently difficult, such a high ceiling was entirely understandable.

At that moment, Mikoto, still struggling to dodge the snowballs without having awakened her own Observation Haki, sensed that Ethan had suddenly become different. Her movements grew more fluid and assured; she could barely keep up with his newfound abilities. Dividing a little of her mind, she shouted, "Ethan, did you successfully awaken Observation Haki?"

"Yes!" Ethan responded, dodging a snowball with a swift side-step. He nodded affirmatively, "I've just awakened it! Do you want to continue training?"

"Continue!" Mikoto gritted her teeth and nodded with determination. Even though Ethan had awakened this powerful skill, she felt frustrated that she was still lagging behind. It wasn't a good situation for her to fall so far behind her friend.

"Are there any tricks?" Mikoto asked breathlessly while trying to focus on her dodging. Her movements, although improving, were still erratic as she struggled to keep up with Ethan's enhanced perception.

Ethan, still in full combat mode, offered her a calm smile and said, "Just calm down and concentrate on dodging. That's the only trick you need right now." He paused and added in an encouraging tone, "Mikoto, your mental strength and innate talent are more than sufficient. You just have to believe in yourself!"

Mikoto took a deep breath, nodding slowly, as she began to focus on her own training with renewed determination.

In that intense moment of training, as snowballs whizzed by and the air vibrated with energy, Ethan and Mikoto continued their friendly duel. Ethan's mastery of Observation Haki allowed him to anticipate every move, while Mikoto fought to catch up, motivated by Ethan's encouraging words. The training ground echoed with the rapid swish of snowballs, and despite the occasional cry of pain, both friends found joy in the challenge, their resolve growing stronger with each dodge and counterattack.

"Next, I will increase the frequency and change the throwing angles to be trickier. You have to be extra careful!" Ethan instructed, his voice firm yet encouraging.

"I believe you can do it! Here it comes!" Mikoto replied with determination.

"Okay!" she answered, forcing herself to calm her racing heart.

In the very next moment, a furious storm of snowballs began to fly at her from every direction—like a relentless barrage. They came so fast and at such unpredictable angles that it felt as though the entire area was engulfed in a swirling tempest.

Mikoto could hardly focus on throwing any snowballs back; she was being overwhelmed. Even as some snowballs managed to hit her, she gritted her teeth and pressed on, determined not to let frustration win.

As she forced herself to concentrate, she noticed something startling—her pupils began to redden, a sign that her Sharingan was on the verge of awakening. Yet, she quickly suppressed that impulse. Based on Uchiha Sarah's previous advice, activating the Sharingan while dodging would actually hinder the process of awakening Observation Haki.

"Concentrate, concentrate, and concentrate again!" she muttered to herself.

Mikoto felt as if she were only a hair's breadth away from unlocking Observation Haki. Time seemed to melt away as she focused, until, suddenly...

"Ong!!"

In that split second, her spirit seemed to soar; her mind buzzed as the entire world sharpened into incredible clarity. Every movement and image within dozens of meters became vivid and distinct. The relentless snowball assault appeared to slow down, as if time itself had decelerated.

With her newfound clarity, Mikoto effortlessly dodged the incoming snowballs. "Swish, swish, swish!" she moved with precision, and soon the barrage ceased—clearly, Ethan had noticed her breakthrough and paused the attack on his own initiative.

"Congratulations!" Ethan called out with a warm smile as he approached her.

Gasping for breath, Mikoto supported her knees with her hands and panted, "Thank you! This time, it's thanks to you! Otherwise, I don't know when I would have managed to awaken!" Her voice was filled with both relief and gratitude. "Your experience is incredibly useful," she added with a soft laugh.

Just then, the sound of a door opening echoed through the training area. Both Ethan and Mikoto turned to see Kureha stepping out of the house, her face a mix of shock and admiration.

"They actually awakened their Observation Haki! It's incredible!" Kureha exclaimed. "The difference in time between you two was only a few minutes. How did you manage it so quickly?"

Kureha's words carried both wonder and a hint of reproach, for she knew that awakening Observation Haki was no small feat—even in the pirate world, only a handful of people ever achieved it. While many can master Armament Haki through relentless physical training, Observation Haki requires refined mental power and an almost mystical sixth sense. It is a talent that not everyone possesses.

"Hehe!" Ethan and Mikoto exchanged a conspiratorial smile.

"We have special awakening techniques," Ethan said confidently.

Kureha rolled her eyes and retorted, "Do you think I didn't hear your previous conversation? If merely focusing on dodging could awaken Observation Haki, then it wouldn't be so rare!" She paused, then added, "I can only say that you Uchiha do have some real talent in spirit and perception. The special eyes you possess seem to draw on both spirit and soul. I've seen it in Uchiha Sarah and in you, Mikoto. As for you, Ethan, it might be because you're not old enough yet. But with your talent, awakening in the future is inevitable."

"Maybe!" Ethan replied, slightly stunned but nodding without comment.

Kureha huffed, "Okay! Now that you've succeeded, please, don't continue this training right now. It's so noisy that I can't concentrate on my reading!" With that, she turned and went back inside.

Ethan and Mikoto looked at each other and smiled. "Then let's stop here for today," Ethan suggested.

"Yes, I also want to test and feel exactly how Observation Haki is working. I'll head back first!" Mikoto agreed, and with a nod, she teleported back to the Ninja World.

Moments later, Ethan too chose to return. "Alright, everyone, it's time to eat. Go wash your hands!" he called out as he reappeared.

Back at the dining hall, Ethan saw Uchiha Sarah—formerly known as Uchiha Zhili—serving dishes. Mikoto was also making her way to the kitchen.

Taking a seat, Ethan remarked, "I heard from Mikoto that you both just awakened Observation Haki?"

Uchiha Sarah smiled broadly and replied, "Yes!"

While Ethan chewed his meat thoughtfully, Uchiha Sarah continued, "Very good! With Observation Haki, our ability to save lives and react in battle will be greatly enhanced in the future. So, keep practicing it diligently—not only to improve your perception and evasion but also to boost your mental strength. It's like killing two birds with one stone! For now, I believe it's even better than our old Uchiha meditation methods."

She added, "Of course, I'm not suggesting you give up meditation entirely; rather, meditation and Observation Haki should complement each other. Don't fall behind in either! Understand?"

"Yes!" Ethan and Mikoto both nodded in agreement.

This was Uchiha Sarah's firsthand account of her experiences studying Observation Haki—a testament to the power and potential that lay ahead.

Later in the session, Ethan raised his voice to guide their next phase. "Next, I will increase the frequency and vary the angles of my throws. You have to be extra careful!"

"I believe you can do it! Here it comes!" Mikoto shouted back, bracing herself.

"Okay!" she responded firmly.

Almost immediately, a storm of snowballs burst forth—each one coming from a different angle and at a pace more than twice as fast as before. Mikoto found herself overwhelmed; the sheer volume and tricky trajectories made it nearly impossible to dodge them all.

Despite several hits, she gritted her teeth and persisted, forcing herself to concentrate. Her eyes narrowed, and she felt the stirrings of a great power. Slowly, her pupils began to redden—a sign that she was on the brink of awakening Observation Haki.

Time seemed to lose meaning. Mikoto felt as though she was standing on the threshold of something monumental. And then, with a sudden, electrifying jolt—

"Ong!!"

Her spirit seemed to ascend, her head buzzing with new energy. The world around her sharpened into crisp clarity; every movement, every image within dozens of meters became intensely vivid. The relentless snowball storm slowed to a crawl, allowing her to perceive even the subtlest of details.

Observation Haki had awakened in Mikoto, and she dodged the slowed snowballs with ease. Moments later, the barrage ceased entirely—Ethan had sensed her breakthrough and had halted his attack.

"Congratulations!" Ethan approached with a proud smile, his breathing heavy but controlled.

Mikoto, kneeling and supporting herself on her hands, panted, "Thank you! I owe it to you—without your guidance, I don't know when I'd have managed to awaken! Your experience made all the difference!" A soft "squeak" of relief punctuated her words.

At that precise moment, the sound of a door creaking open drew their attention. Both Ethan and Mikoto looked over to see Kureha emerging from the house, her face a mixture of shock and awe.

"They actually awakened their Observation Haki! That's incredible! And the difference between the two of you was only a few minutes—how did you do it?" she asked, astonished.

Kureha's tone was laced with both wonder and sternness. "Don't think that awakening Observation Haki is easy. Even in the pirate world, this ability is exclusive to a very small number of people. Most will never ever achieve it in their lifetime. In fact, many strong Armament Haki practitioners never awaken Observation Haki. Unlike Armament Haki, which you can develop through sheer physical training, Observation Haki depends on your mental power—a sixth sense beyond the five. It requires not just effort, but true talent."

Ethan and Mikoto exchanged smiles. "Hehe!" they chuckled together.

"We have special techniques for awakening," Ethan said confidently.

Kureha rolled her eyes. "Do you think I didn't hear your conversation earlier? If you could awaken just by focusing on dodging, then Observation Haki wouldn't be so rare!" She paused thoughtfully, then continued, "I can only say that the Uchiha do have remarkable talent in spirit and perception. Your unique eyes seem to channel both spirit and soul. I've seen it in Uchiha Sarah and in you, Mikoto. As for you, Ethan, you haven't awakened that special aspect yet—perhaps because you're not old enough. But with your talent, it's only a matter of time."

"Maybe!" Ethan murmured, slightly taken aback but nodding in agreement.

"Okay! Now that you've succeeded, please, don't continue this training. It's so noisy that I can't concentrate on my reading!" Kureha complained, then turned and went back inside.

Ethan and Mikoto looked at each other and smiled. "Then let's stop here for today," Ethan suggested.

"Yes, I'll go back first. I also want to test the limits of my Observation Haki further," Mikoto agreed.

They both teleported back to the Ninja World. Moments later, Ethan reappeared and called out, "Alright, it's time to eat—go wash your hands!"

Back at the dining room, as Ethan sat down and began eating, Uchiha Sarah served dishes with a satisfied smile. Mikoto joined her at the kitchen, and as Ethan munched on his meal, he recounted, "I heard from Mikoto that you both just awakened Observation Haki?"

"Yes!" Uchiha Sarah replied enthusiastically.

Ethan nodded thoughtfully between bites. "Very good! It's quite a coincidence, really," he remarked.

Sarah smiled warmly. "With Observation Haki, your ability to save lives and react in battle will be greatly enhanced in the future. So, work hard to practice it—not only to boost your perception and evasion but also to strengthen your mind. It's like killing two birds with one stone! For now, I believe it's even more effective than our old Uchiha meditation method."

She added, "Of course, I'm not saying you should abandon meditation altogether—both meditation and Observation Haki complement each other. Just don't fall behind in either, understand?"

"Yes!" Ethan and Mikoto both nodded in unison.

This exchange was a testament to Uchiha Sarah's deep experience in studying Observation Haki—a powerful tool that would shape their future.

As the day wound down, Ethan prepared to finish training. "Next, I will increase the frequency and tricky angles of my throws. You have to be careful!" he instructed.

"I believe you can do it! Here it comes!" Mikoto replied, her anxiety easing as she focused.

"Okay!" she confirmed.

Then, the onslaught resumed. A storm of snowballs erupted from all sides—faster and trickier than ever before. Mikoto could only concentrate on dodging, and despite her efforts, a few snowballs managed to hit her. Yet, she persevered. Concentrating harder, her eyes began to glow red, inching her closer to the brink of awakening Observation Haki.

Time seemed to blur. Mikoto lost all sense of duration as she focused solely on dodging. Then, with a sudden, resonant "Ong!!" her mind seemed to transcend itself—her spirit soared and her head buzzed with newfound clarity.

In that moment, everything changed. The world around her became hyper-clear; she sensed every movement and image within dozens of meters. The relentless snowballs slowed to a crawl as Observation Haki fully awakened in her.

"Swish, swish, swish!" Mikoto effortlessly dodged the slowed projectiles. Soon, the assault halted completely—Ethan had stopped the throws, noticing her breakthrough.

"Congratulations!" Ethan walked forward, a proud smile on his face. "Huff, huff, huff..." he panted lightly.

Mikoto, kneeling and catching her breath, smiled gratefully, "Thank you! I owe it all to you. Without your help, I don't know when I would have awakened. Your experience is invaluable." A soft "squeak" of relief accompanied her words.

Just then, the sound of a door opening caught their attention. They turned to see Kureha emerging from the house, her face lit with shock and wonder.

"They actually awakened their Observation Haki! That's incredible! And the difference in time between you two was only a few minutes—how did you manage it so quickly?" Kureha exclaimed.

She continued, "Don't think that awakening Observation Haki is easy. Even in the pirate world, it's exclusive to a very few. Many strong Armament Haki users never awaken Observation Haki. Unlike Armament Haki, which you can train physically, Observation Haki relies on mental power and a sixth sense beyond the ordinary. Its awakening is vastly more difficult and depends heavily on talent."

X Ethan and Mikoto exchanged satisfied smiles. "Hehe!" they chuckled.

"We have special awakening techniques," Ethan stated confidently.

Kureha rolled her eyes. "Do you really think I haven't heard your previous conversation? If you could awaken just by focusing on dodging, Observation Haki wouldn't be so rare!" She paused thoughtfully. "I must say, the Uchiha do have remarkable talent in spirit and perception. Your special eyes seem to channel both spirit and soul. I've seen it in Uchiha Sarah and in you, Mikoto. As for you, Ethan, perhaps you haven't awakened that unique aspect yet because you're still young. With your talent, though, it's only a matter of time."

"Maybe!" Ethan replied, slightly stunned but nodding.

"Alright, now that you've succeeded, please, don't continue this kind of training. It's too noisy—I can't concentrate on my reading!" Kureha complained, then turned and went back inside.

Ethan and Mikoto shared a look and smiled. "Then let's stop for today," Ethan suggested.

"Agreed. I want to gauge my Observation Haki fully, so I'll head back," Mikoto said.

They both teleported back to the Ninja World. Moments later, Ethan reappeared, calling out, "Alright, it's time to eat—go wash your hands!"

Back in the dining room, while Ethan sat down and began eating, Uchiha Sarah served dishes with a warm smile. Mikoto joined her in the kitchen. As Ethan chewed his meat, he remarked, "I heard from Mikoto that you both just awakened Observation Haki?"

"Yes!" Sarah replied brightly.

Ethan nodded thoughtfully. "Very good! It's quite a coincidence."

Sarah smiled and added, "With Observation Haki, our ability to respond in battle and save lives will be greatly enhanced. So, work hard on practicing it—not only to improve your perception and evasion but also to bolster your mental strength. It's like killing two birds with one stone! I even feel it's better than our old Uchiha meditation methods." She paused, "Of course, I'm not suggesting you give up meditation entirely—both techniques complement each other. Just don't fall behind in either, okay?"

"Yes!" both Ethan and Mikoto confirmed.

Their conversation marked a significant milestone in their training—a moment when the promise of Observation Haki began to reshape their abilities and futures.

And with that, the day ended on a high note as new skills and deeper bonds set the stage for even greater challenges ahead.
