Chapter 49 - Chapter 50: Third Time’s the Charm

What the fuck?!

One-shot kill?!

That enormous Serpent Lady—just gone, taken out in one strike?!

Was this a joke?

Everyone froze in place, unable to believe their eyes. They swallowed hard, stunned.

After confirming again and again that the Serpent Lady was truly defeated in a single blow, the crowd collectively gasped in disbelief.

"Holy shit?! A 500-HP Serpent Lady just got one-shot by Lin Fan? I can't even process this."

"This isn't just hacking anymore. Is Lin Fan actually the Creator God of this world?"

"Someone explain to me how an iron sword with only 6 attack points just dealt 500 damage!"

"I mean, sure, I'd accept him one-shotting a 40-HP zombie, but a 500-HP Serpent Lady? What the actual—"

"Who just said Lin Fan couldn't one-shot the Serpent Lady? I almost believed them!"

"Yeah, who could've predicted this?"

"Anyway, let's focus on what matters. Whoever just promised to livestream eating shit, step forward, please."

The group erupted into chaotic chatter. Meanwhile, Li Cheng, still lying on the ground, looked utterly dumbfounded.

"500 HP… one-shot?"

"This… this can't be real. It's impossible… impossible…"

He mumbled to himself, refusing to accept the truth.

It wasn't just Li Cheng—no one could believe Lin Fan had truly defeated the Serpent Lady with a single strike.

"That 500-HP Serpent Lady—is Lin Fan really capable of one-shotting it?"

"No way. That's just not possible."

"How is it not possible? We all just saw Lin Fan take it out in one blow."

"Maybe he didn't kill it. Maybe it just hid somewhere?"

"Hide? Something that big? And we didn't even see it move?"

"Maybe it used some kind of teleportation or spatial shift? This world is full of weird stuff, after all."

"Fair point."

"Honestly, that makes more sense. No way a 500-HP Serpent Lady got one-shot."

"Exactly. A teleportation or space trick is way more believable than it being killed in a single strike."

The group debated back and forth, with no one willing to accept that Lin Fan had actually one-shot the Serpent Lady.

Li Cheng, who had refused to believe the reality earlier, found some comfort in the others' skepticism.

"Yeah, that must be it. It must've been some spatial trick or something. No way Lin Fan could one-shot a 500-HP Serpent Lady. He doesn't have that kind of power," he muttered to himself with a nervous laugh.

But just as he was convincing himself of this, he noticed Lin Fan walking toward him.

Seeing this, Li Cheng frowned.

'What's he doing? Don't tell me… he's planning to kill me?'

'No, that's impossible. I'm the Director of the research division. There's no way he'd dare kill me.'

'This woman might not understand the rules, but Lin Fan surely does.'

As Li Cheng tried to calm himself with these thoughts, Lin Fan stopped in front of him, his cold gaze locking onto him.

"You're Li Cheng?"

Startled by the sudden question, Li Cheng faltered. Shrinking back slightly, he swallowed nervously.

"Y-Yeah, I'm Li Cheng. What— what do you want?"

Lin Fan's cold gaze bore into Li Cheng, leaving the latter with a creeping sense of unease.

Even so, Li Cheng, unwilling to lose face in front of Lin Fan, mustered some courage. He straightened his back and glared at Lin Fan with a menacing expression.

"Don't think you're all that just because you've had your moment in the spotlight. You didn't even kill the Serpent Lady—you just fought it off after all this time."

"What's the big deal? Don't think you can overshadow the research division. At least we're backed by the nation. And you? Lin Fan, you're nothing."

Lin Fan listened to Li Cheng's rant, his lips curling into a cold smile. He didn't reply, but the chill in his gaze intensified.

That icy stare sent a shiver down Li Cheng's spine. Still, with so many people watching, he refused to back down. Forcing himself to hold his ground, he raised his voice.

"If you can't even handle the Serpent Lady, you should just go home. Stop showing off in the Nine-Story Monster Tower. Do you think anyone's impressed by your petty skills? It's nothing but the tricks of a cunning merchant."

"You're feeding off the suffering of others, profiting from a nation in crisis. You've never cared about the greater good."

"Sure, you made a name for yourself with the Redstone Farm, but do you really think beating the Serpent Lady in the Nine-Story Monster Tower will get you the same fame?"

"You've been at it for so long, and in the end, all you did was let it escape."

Li Cheng rambled on incoherently, his words filled with disdain.

Lin Fan's silence emboldened him further; he mistook it for fear. Just as he was about to hurl more insults, a notification from the World Channel echoed:

[Ding~! Congratulations to Lin Fan for slaying the first-floor boss of the Nine-Story Monster Tower, the Serpent Lady. Reward granted!]

The announcement struck like a thunderclap, cutting off whatever Li Cheng was about to say. His mouth hung open, words stuck in his throat as he stared blankly at Lin Fan.

The bystanders, however, erupted into chaos.

"Holy shit! The Serpent Lady is really dead?"

"So Lin Fan really did one-shot a 500-HP Serpent Lady?"

"Damn, that's terrifying. While we're out here struggling to deal 5 damage per hit, Lin Fan just wipes out 500 HP like it's nothing."

"Is Lin Fan even human? He's like a demon!"

"This is one of those 'comparison kills the joy' moments."

"Seriously, don't compare yourself to Lin Fan—it's bad for your mental health."

"Serpent Lady: Honestly, I didn't see that coming."

The crowd buzzed with excitement, but Li Cheng was completely stunned.

Who would've thought Lin Fan actually managed to one-shot the Serpent Lady? Li Cheng couldn't believe it, no matter how hard he tried.

Seeing the defeated expression on Li Cheng's face, Lin Fan let out a faint, cold chuckle.

"So, you are indeed Li Cheng from the research division. I know it was you who made that post about the wandering trader's trade tools last time."

"I didn't hold it against you then—not because I fear your position, but simply because I couldn't be bothered."

Lin Fan's sharp words instantly drained the color from Li Cheng's face.

He hadn't expected Lin Fan to be so direct, and for a moment, he couldn't find the courage to retort. After all, the incident with the wandering trader was indeed his doing.

Lin Fan's gaze grew even colder as he looked at Li Cheng.

"This is the second time. Out of respect for your position as the research division's Director, I'll let it slide again.

But remember—three strikes, and you're out. If there's a next time, it won't just be an arm you lose."

The words were delivered with a chilling finality, cutting into Li Cheng like daggers.

For years, Li Cheng had been respected in the research division. When had he ever endured such humiliation?

"I don't need your mercy!" Li Cheng shouted angrily, his face twisted with shame and rage.

"If you've got the guts, just kill me! Why waste time humiliating me?"

As soon as the words left his mouth, Lillian's blade was at his throat.

"Don't think my master won't kill you," she said coldly. "If he's letting you live, be smart enough to keep your mouth shut. Otherwise... I'll send you off myself, right here and now."

Her icy gaze froze Li Cheng in his tracks. He wanted to argue but was terrified Lillian would actually follow through.

After all, one arm was already gone—if he pushed his luck, his life might be next.
