Zi Ning stared at the message on her phone, her fingers tightening around the device.
Be careful who you trust. Some people are not what they seem.
Her mind spun. Who sent this? Was it a warning? A threat? Or was someone trying to confuse her?
Her instincts told her it wasn't random. Whoever sent it knew something.
She quickly saved the number and showed it to Lu Yichen.
He glanced at the screen, his face cold. "It's an unregistered number. I'll have my men trace it."
Zi Ning nodded. "There's more. The second car at the crash site… it belonged to Jiang Yue."
Lu Yichen's expression darkened. "The journalist?"
"Yes." Zi Ning's voice was firm. "She was there. But why? Was she investigating, or is she involved?"
Lu Yichen's jaw tightened. "We'll find out."
He made another call, giving orders in a low, icy tone.
Zi Ning exhaled. She had too many questions and not enough answers.
But one thing was clear.
Someone was watching her.
And she had to find out who before they made their next move.
Later that afternoon, Zi Ning sat in the penthouse, deep in thought.
Her car had been sabotaged. The attack wasn't random. Someone wanted to stop her from looking into Wang Xue's case.
And now, Jiang Yue was linked to the scene.
Coincidence? No. She didn't believe in coincidences anymore.
She needed to confront Jiang Yue.
Zi Ning grabbed her coat. "I'm going out."
Lu Yichen, who had been reviewing a report, looked up. "Where?"
"To find answers."
He frowned. "I'll come with you."
Zi Ning shook her head. "I need to do this alone."
Lu Yichen's eyes darkened, but after a long pause, he nodded. "Be careful."
Zi Ning gave him a small smile and walked out.
She arrived at Jiang Yue's workplace, a small but well-known media office in the city.
As she stepped inside, the receptionist looked up. "Miss Zi Ning?"
Zi Ning nodded.
"Jiang Yue isn't here. She took an early leave today."
Zi Ning's brows furrowed. "Do you know where she went?"
The receptionist hesitated before shaking her head.
Zi Ning thanked her and left.
Something wasn't right.
Why would Jiang Yue disappear the day after the attack?
Zi Ning pulled out her phone and tried calling her.
No answer.
A strange feeling settled in her chest.
She needed to find Jiang Yue.
Now.
Zi Ning used her contacts in the entertainment industry and found out Jiang Yue often visited a quiet café in the city.
She went there immediately.
As soon as she stepped inside, she spotted Jiang Yue sitting in the corner, a cup of coffee in front of her.
Zi Ning approached her table.
Jiang Yue looked up, surprise flashing across her face. "Zi Ning?"
Zi Ning sat down, her gaze sharp. "We need to talk."
Jiang Yue hesitated but nodded. "I figured you'd come."
Zi Ning wasted no time. "You were at the crash site last night. Why?"
Jiang Yue sighed. "I was following a lead. I didn't expect to see you there—"
Zi Ning cut her off. "A lead on what?"
Jiang Yue hesitated, then lowered her voice. "On a powerful group controlling the entertainment industry. Wang Xue's case is just the surface. There's something much bigger happening."

Zi Ning's heart pounded. "Who are they?"
Jiang Yue shook her head. "I don't know. But I do know this—everyone who digs too deep… disappears."
Zi Ning's fingers clenched.
Someone was pulling the strings behind the scenes.
And they were willing to kill to keep their secrets.
Just as Jiang Yue was about to say more, her phone buzzed.
She glanced at it and her face turned pale.
Zi Ning leaned forward. "What is it?"
Jiang Yue swallowed hard. "A warning."
She turned the screen toward Zi Ning.
A message was displayed.
Walk away, or you won't live to regret it.
Zi Ning's blood ran cold.
They were watching.
And now, they knew Jiang Yue had spoken to her.
She looked around the café.
Were they being watched right now?
Jiang Yue's hands trembled. "I shouldn't have talked to you."
Zi Ning's voice was firm. "It's too late now. We're already in this."
Jiang Yue looked at her, fear in her eyes. "You don't understand. They're not just powerful—they're untouchable."
Zi Ning's gaze hardened.
She had faced betrayal, danger, and death.
She wasn't afraid.
And she wasn't backing down.
As Zi Ning left the café, she felt a chill run down her spine.
She wasn't being paranoid.
Someone was following her.
She kept walking, pretending not to notice. But her heart was racing.
She took a sharp turn into an alley and stopped.
Footsteps echoed behind her.
She spun around.
A tall man in black stood a few feet away. His face was hidden, his stance threatening.
Zi Ning's hands curled into fists.
The man took a step forward.
Zi Ning's heart pounded, but she didn't move.
Then, suddenly—
A car screeched to a stop at the alley's entrance.
Lu Yichen stepped out. His eyes locked onto the man in black.
The man hesitated, then turned and disappeared into the shadows.
Zi Ning exhaled, finally releasing the breath she had been holding.
Lu Yichen walked toward her. His face was cold with anger. "I told you to be careful."
Zi Ning met his gaze. "I was careful. But they aren't playing fair."
Lu Yichen's jaw clenched. "Then neither will we."
Zi Ning's lips curved into a small, determined smile.
Whoever was behind this had made a mistake.
They thought they could scare her.
They thought they could make her stop.
But now, she was more determined than ever.
And she wasn't going down without a fight.
