Sunny woke up to the soft warmth of Nephis nestled against him, just like the night before.
Her body was curled against his, her face resting gently on his chest.
A few strands of her silver hair fell across her forehead, and her breath was slow and steady, peaceful in a way that made Sunny smile.
He reached down and gently patted her head, running his fingers through her hair in a soft, affectionate motion.
Her hair felt cool and smooth against his hand, and it gave him a sense of comfort that he couldn't quite explain.
'So cute..'
He continued the motion for a moment before speaking softly.
"Nephis," he murmured, brushing a few strands of hair off her face. "It's time to eat breakfast."
At the sound of his voice, she stirred slightly.
But instead of immediately waking up, she let out a soft groan, the kind of noise someone made when they're not quite ready to leave their comfortable bed.
(like me)
She tightened her arms around him, as though she clearly didn't want to leave him.
"I don't want to get up…" Nephis muttered, her voice muffled by his chest.
Her arms tightened around him even more, and she buried her face into his shirt. "Five more minutes…"
Sunny chuckled softly, his heart swelling at the sight of her acting so adorably childish.
He wasn't sure why it made him so happy, but something about the way she sought warmth and comfort in his embrace made everything feel just right.
"Sure, we can sleep in if you want," Sunny said, grinning as he wrapped his arm around her, pulling her closer. "But I'm going to need you to wake up at some point, you know."
Nephis groaned again, but this time it sounded more like a whine.
"But I don't want to get up," she repeated, her voice whiny, almost like a little kid. "I'm too comfy…"
Sunny laughed softly, his smile widening.
He hadn't expected her to act so childlike, but it was kind of adorable in its own way.
"I can tell," he said, his voice still gentle as he kissed the top of her head. "But breakfast isn't going to make itself."
Nephis sighed dramatically, shifting her position so that she could bury her face deeper into his chest. "You're so mean," she muttered, but her tone was teasing, not really upset.
Sunny grinned, gently teasing her. "I'm sorry, I can't just let you sleep all day. What if I starve?"
"Hmm…" Nephis let out a little hum, the sound vibrating against his chest. "You can wait. You're strong. You can survive without food for a while."
She pulled herself closer, her head resting right beneath his chin. "I'll make it up to you later… How about that?"
Sunny couldn't help but smile at her stubbornness. "I'm going to need more than that to survive," he said, teasing her lightly.
If he was being honest, he wasn't exactly in a rush to leave the comfort of the bed either. Her warmth, her presence alone just made him want to stay there forever.
Nephis smirked, her arms slipping around his waist as she hugged him tighter.
"I can think of some ways to make it up to you. I'll cook you something special… if you let me sleep a little longer."
Sunny raised an eyebrow, enjoying the way she was trying to bargain for more sleep. "You think you can bribe me with food?"
"Yes, I do," she replied matter-of-factly, nuzzling into him like she was a kitten asking for attention. "It works every time."
He sighed in mock defeat, holding her a little tighter. "Alright, fine. I'll let you sleep… but only for a bit longer."
Nephis made a small content sound, clearly pleased with herself. "Good. I knew you'd understand."
She snuggled closer to him, her body pressed against his in a way that felt natural.
Sunny just let himself enjoy the peace of the moment.
Her warmth against him, the rise and fall of her chest, and the way she relaxed into his embrace… it felt like the world outside didn't exist.
Minutes passed, and Nephis' breathing slowly began to change, indicating that she had succumbed to sleep.
Sunny, however, didn't sleep. Instead, he lay there, his arms around her, simply enjoying the quiet and the closeness they shared.
He thought about how things had changed, about how this simple moment felt so right.
Not too long ago, he might have wanted to be alone, to keep his distance from everyone, but now… now it felt different.
With Nephis, it felt like he had finally found someone who could understand him, someone who could pull him out of his shell and make him feel like maybe he didn't have to always be on guard.
She was stubborn, a little reckless, and far more playful than he ever expected, but there was something about her that made it easy to forget the weight of everything else.
She made him laugh, made him feel things he didn't want to admit. He couldn't imagine being anywhere else, with anyone else, at that moment.
His thoughts were interrupted when Nephis stirred again, her hand finding his and squeezing it lightly.
Her voice was soft, and she was clearly still half asleep.
"You know," she mumbled, her words barely audible, "I think you're growing on me, Sunny." She said, hee eyes still closed.
Sunny couldn't help but smile.
"Is that so?" he asked softly, leaning down to press a kiss to her forehead.
"Mhm," she hummed, her face still hidden against his chest. "You're… not so bad."
Sunny laughed, squeezing her hand gently. "I'll take that as a compliment."
But then Nephis shifted, pulling away just enough to look up at him, her eyes still slightly heavy with sleep.
"So…" she said, her voice dropping into a teasing tone. "What do I get for my big victory yesterday?"
Sunny smirked, raising an eyebrow at her. "Victory, huh?"
"Yeah," she smiled, "You know, since I beat you. You owe me something, right?"
Sunny chuckled, shaking his head. "You really don't know when to stop, do you?"
Nephis just smiled, her expression softening as she let herself settle back into his embrace.
Guess I'll let you off the hook for now," she said, a quiet yawn following her words. "But only because you're so nice when I ask you nicely."
Sunny laughed lightly, pressing her back into the blankets as she yawned again, her arms curling around him like a comfortable little ball. "You're really something, you know that?"
She let out a content sigh, nestling against him. "I'm something, alright," she murmured, a slight chuckle escaping her lips as she closed her eyes again. "But you'll get used to it."
Sunny smiled softly, adjusting the blankets around them both as he closed his eyes, letting himself finally relax. "I think I already have."
