Chapter 17 - Night of the Massacre (2)

Roman could hear the clamor of the goblins as they prepared themselves in their still half-asleep state. The male goblins left their wooden huts with their weapons in hand while the children and female goblins hid in the deepest recess of the huts.

The goblins were screeching to each other in dismay, Roman could make out a word that was being repeated multiple times out of the cacophony of uproar: "intruder".

'It seems they have caught on that there is an intruder in their village, I should firstly kill off the evolved variant goblins first as they are the only ones in the village that may have the strength to destroy my ice seal on the gates in a short period of time. So firstly wipe out the variant goblins and then clean up normal goblins.'

During Roman's investigation during the day he had found out that the village had four varaint goblins, all of whom were in E rank; the strongest out of the four was the village chief whom he hadn't seen at all during his investigation, the village cheif had stayed in his hut the entire day so Roman hadn't seen him once; he had only heard of him from the normal goblins' discussions. The other three variants were the chief's sons who were triplets, they looked identical to each other and Roman had observed them a few times as they strolled through the village, they seemed haughty and arrogant, Roman had hoped he could see them fight and assess their strength but they never did.

Roman headed to the centre of the village as that was where the Chief and his sons' huts were. The Chief lived in the biggest hut in the village while the triplets all had their own seperate huts that directly surrounded the cheif's hut.

Roman wanted to get as much attention as possible while heading to the centre of the village so he unsheathed his sword and ran in plain sight. He coated his sword's blade in mana and beheaded all goblins that stood in his path.

The melodious whispers of the system notifying Roman of his kills were endless, eventually as Roman continued to gain attention on himself the screetching goblins changed from shouting "intruder" to "skeleton enemy" or "murderous undead" and other things of that nature.

As Roman made his way to the village's centre, three goblins stood in his path, they were different from the ususal goblin, they were a little taller then 180 centimetres being just a little bit shorter then Roman's skeletal form; they were also a lot less hideous then normal goblins yet they were still quite unpleasent to look at. Unlike the normal goblins who have skinny physiques the three goblins standing in front of Roman had a muscular-lean physique with their skin being a lighter shade of green. The three goblins wore simple wool trousers that exposed their upper body and they each carried different weapons one held a metal sword, while the second held a metal spear and the last held a metal mace.

These three superior goblins were the cheif's sons, the triplets.

Behind the valiant triplets were dozens of cowering goblins, scared witless by Roman's visage. He made for a terrifying sight. Despite it being the middle of night, all the goblins could see Roman clearly due to their innate night vision, he was a skeleton that towered over them, his sword was slickened with goblin blood and the two deep-red flaming balls that substituted for his eyes only further reinforced his terrifying image.

The terrified gobins tentatively directed some of their screeches towards the triplets.

"Where is chief?"

"Yes we need chief to vanquish great demon."

"Skeleton too scary."

"We need chief."

The triplet holding a spear stopped the goblins' endless chattering with an exaggerated movement of his arm.

"Fret not my dear lesser brothers, the chief is currently occupied with an important task and has sent us three to vanquish this great evil that has stumbled into our village."

The spear holding triplet then brandished his spear grandly at the silent Roman who was observing him and the rest of the goblins and continued talking.

"Malevolent skeleton, the one who will force you back into the afterlife is me, Grom."

After Grom's dramatic introduction, the sword weilding triplet took that as his cue to talk as well.

"You might as well take my name to your grave too evil adversary, I am Grum."

The mace holding triplet seemed to feel a little left out and followed in his other two brothers' footsteps.

"My name is Gram and it shall be the last thing you remember before your unmannerly doom."

Roman couldn't help but inwardly lampoon at the ridiculous triplets.

'So Grom is the triplet who is holding the spear while Grum is the triplet who is holding the sword and Gram is the triplet who is holding the mace, I can see their father put in no effort at giving them original names, not to mention their theatrical speeches. Though it should be noted that the triplets seem to be vastly more intelligent then the normal goblins simply judging their better grammer and vocabulary.'

The normal goblins behind the triplets were less panicked after hearing their speeches, no longer asking for the chief and putting their faith in the triplets.

'Kill skeleton!'

'Avenge dead goblins!'

'Destroy it!'

Roman waited for the triplets to make the first move, although he had confidence that he was stronger then them, it didn't hurt to be catious with beings he didn't greatly overshadow in strength.

He made a gesture with his boney hand as if to tell the triplets to stop fooling around and come at him.

Grom was instantly provoked and ordered his other two brothers.

"Surround the skeleton in formation A, the one we usually use when hunting outside the village."

Grom charged at Roman as the other two triplets nodded and rushed at Roman in different directions as if trying to surround him in a triangle formation.

Roman made a cursory evaluation that Grom seemed to be the semi-leader of the three triplets as whatever he did, the others would follow his lead.
