Zephyrine's POV
The rogue men gathered around the campfire at the training site, drinking and laughing. Their merry sight sent a relieving chill down my spine.
I sighed loudly, tilting my head up to gaze at the moon.
A week had passed since Caden left the pack. After our argument, he took me back, but I returned alone. I never saw him again.
Thankfully High lord Valerie sticked to her three months space. She only sent letters—letters I couldn't bring myself to respond to. She begged me to come home, but what was I supposed to say? My whole life had been a lie. I had spent years driven by the need to avenge my parents, only to find out they were never really mine.
Bryan and I had crossed paths a few times during meetings at the White Council. He continued trying to get closer to me, but despite his efforts, my agenda hadn't changed. Fake or not, my parents loved me as if I were theirs, and I would avenge their deaths.
Laughter and hushed whispers pulled me from my thoughts.
