I sat at my desk, staring blankly at the stack of papers in front of me. It had been a long day, filled with one emergency after another.
One of my partners was having a crisis, and I had been stuck in the office for hours, trying to resolve the issue.
Just as I was starting to make progress, my phone rang. I answered, expecting it to be one of my partners or maybe even Emma. But instead, it was Keila.
"Alpha, I need to talk to you," she said, her voice sounding worried.
"What's going on?" I asked, feeling a sense of unease.
"It's Emma," Keila said. "She's not here."
Irritation hit me at her word. Had Emma gone against my orders again? Had she visited her sister despite my explicit instructions not to?
I slammed my fist on the desk, feeling a wave of frustration wash over me. Why couldn't Emma just follow my orders for once?
I hung up immediately, and I dialed Emma's number, but it went straight to voicemail. I tried again and again, but she didn't pick up.
