Hands grabbed her and she screamed, but it was Riley holding her as she kicked. Riley had a square pacifier in her mouth. She pulled it out, put it back and made a show of sucking in a lung full before passing it to Kate, beginning a rotation.
Her flailing had become a full-bodied clench, her every muscle a single clench.
"You!" Kate gargled a breathe, then spat. "You pushed me off a cliff!"
It came out spluttering. There was literally too much water in the air. It should have been impossible it was just water.
Riley had been impossible to read but right then she was grinning. Mad with glee.

Kate swam away until the grey thinned and her toes smothered rock and kept going until she was out up to her belly. Ahead of her were windows and lights from the building itself and forested ground she could barely make out.
Her body suddenly steamed, the internals of the body suit overcompensating to warm her up. Her armpits and crevasses felt like they were baking up something terrible as air swirled around there.
Breathing on her own, her lungs no longer screaming, Kate turned and lay her elbows on the soil, legs floating and bobbing as she faced the sky. It was almost funny that she'd been panicking.
