As soon as he returned, he fixed his burning gaze directly on Peter.
Peter couldn't help but shudder.
He quickly wrapped his arm around Gwen, who had just walked over. "First of all, let me make it clear—I have a girlfriend. I don't swing that way."
Spider-Man 2099's face darkened as he suppressed the urge to curse. "My orientation is perfectly normal too!"
"That's good," Peter patted his chest in relief. "Your expression just now was seriously terrifying."
Gwen rolled her eyes at him before turning to Spider-Man 2099. "So, I take it your investigation is complete?"
"Yes, it is." At the mention of business, Spider-Man 2099's expression turned serious as he began explaining his findings.
Within the Spider Society, there was indeed a machine called the Web of Eyes, which Spider-Man 2099 had created based on his insights from his first accidental connection to the Great Web of Life and Destiny.
This machine could link to the Web of Life and Destiny, allowing for a certain degree of monitoring across the multiverse. If necessary, it could also be used to open a passage between universes, enabling interdimensional travel.
In fact, the multidimensional travel watches used by Spider Society members were all connected to the Web of Eyes.
This time, Spider-Man 2099 had used the Web of Eyes to examine the state of their current universe.
This universe was designated Earth-199606.
Its overall history was remarkably similar to that of Earth-616, with one major difference—after Mayday Parker (the daughter of Spider-Man, Peter Parker) was born, the Green Goblin activated a faulty device implanted in Earth-199606's Spider-Man by the Jackal, compelling him to kill Mary Jane.
To protect Mary Jane, Earth-199606's Scarlet Spider, Ben Reilly, was forced to kill Earth-199606's Spider-Man and assume his identity.
However, during a multiversal incident, before he could commit the crime, Earth-199606's Spider-Man was teleported to another universe.
His disappearance led Earth-199606's Scarlet Spider to believe he had died, so he took his place.
In reality, Earth-199606's Spider-Man was captured by the Temporal Task Force in another universe. At their headquarters in the Quantum Realm, he underwent cranial surgery that restored his sanity.
The Spider Squad had traveled to this universe to escort the cured Earth-199606 Spider-Man back home.
However, on their return journey, they were ambushed by the Spider Society, leading to the events that followed.
For Earth-199606, the event of "Scarlet Spider killing Spider-Man and assuming his identity" was considered a "classic event"—a key node in the Web of Life and Destiny.
Had anyone else interfered in such an event, the consequences would have been dire.
It could have led to the collapse and destruction of this universe, just like what Spider-Man 2099 had experienced before.
However, upon closer inspection, Spider-Man 2099 discovered that this universe was still developing in a healthy and orderly manner. More astonishingly, its future was being redefined, overwriting the timeline that had previously been foreseen.
What did this mean?
It meant that this universe was not suffering from the disruption of its Web Node. Instead, it had gained a potentially better, freer future—
A brand-new future!
Unbelievable!
That was Spider-Man 2099's assessment.
When he reached this conclusion, he couldn't help but wonder—if Earth-TRN1042 had undergone the same change, would he have been able to stay in that universe, living happily with his lively and adorable daughter?
Lost in this thought, Spider-Man 2099 once again turned his burning gaze toward Peter—even though Peter had just labeled it as "a look that calls your orientation into question."
Gwen tilted her head slightly, gazing at her lover with a hint of astonishment in her voice.
"So, what you're saying is… my dear, you might possess some kind of mysterious power—one that can truly rewrite the fate of a universe?"
Spider-Man 2099 said excitedly, "This is the kind of power! This kind of power… In the past, only that great being possessed it!"
"That great being? Who?" Peter asked, puzzled.
"The guardian of the Web of Life and Destiny, the great Spider Totem God—The Weaver!"
"You're saying that I'm the new Spider Totem God?" Peter was quite surprised.
The word "God" had always felt distant to him.
It was a term that carried a sense of being exalted, untouchable, and beyond reach.
Until now, he had never imagined that one day, he would actually become a "God."
And this particular "God" seemed to have a higher status than even Thor, the God of Thunder!
Because this was the deity revered by all Spider-People across the multiverse!
Moreover, this deity controlled the fate of the multiverse itself!
With the Weaver's death, the destiny of the universe had become fixed—any slight alteration could lead to destruction.
"No," Spider-Man 2099 shook his head at that moment.
Then, under the watchful gazes of Peter, Gwen, and Superior Spider-Man, he extended his hand in an inviting gesture. "I'd like to invite you to see for yourself."
Peter and Gwen exchanged glances. Peter then said, "Gwen, go back and let Max and the others know that I'm visiting the Spider Society."
"Alright." Gwen nodded, then activated a portal without hesitation and left this world, returning to the quantum space.
She didn't melodramatically insist on facing whatever dangers might arise alongside Peter.
Despite still being a teenage girl, her mindset had matured far beyond her years.
Besides, to be blunt, Peter was now far stronger than all of them combined.
A Spider-Man with enhanced physiology, mysterious quantum energy, and magic skills comparable to a seasoned sorcerer (though not at the level of a Sorcerer Supreme) was already capable of dominating most situations.
Not to mention, everyone in Spider-Man 2099's group had already been defeated by Peter before!
After Gwen left, Peter followed Spider-Man 2099 through the spatial portal leading to the Earth-928B universe.
Superior Spider-Man also stepped forward, following along.
He was concerned that Spider-Man 2099 might attempt something against Peter.
If that happened, he would stand on Peter's side.
Peter, on the other hand, wasn't overthinking it.
Having Gwen return was partly for precaution, but another reason was to have her help settle the captured Spider-People.
Since he and the Spider Society had reached an initial reconciliation, those captured Spider-People couldn't just remain hanging there. At the very least, they should be placed somewhere better.
As for completely releasing them, that would have to wait until Peter returned.
At this moment, Peter was experiencing his first time using technology to traverse parallel universes.
From his perspective, traveling through a technologically created multiversal gateway felt similar to using a magically created one—well, okay, he took that back.
Because as soon as he stepped through, he found himself in a ridiculously long tunnel!
