Upon hearing Peter's words, Spider-Man 2099 showed a slight hesitation.
If it were simply because Peter's actions hadn't affected the Web of Life and Destiny—also known as classic events—it wouldn't make sense.
Peter and his Temporal Task Force's actions across many worlds had already touched upon the Web's nodes.
For instance, his deeds in Earth-120703 (The Amazing Universe) influenced Dr. Lizard and gave Norman Osborn Garfield Spider's blood. This not only spared George Stacy and Gwen Stacy of that universe but also completely altered Garfield Spider's trajectory.
George Stacy's death might have been a "Test of Conscience," but Earth-120703's Gwen Stacy's death was undeniably a genuine "Classic Event!"
As someone who had glimpsed into the Web of Life and Destiny, Spider-Man 2099 had briefly seen Earth-120703's future:
After Gwen Stacy's death, Earth-120703's Spider-Man would emerge from a period of despondency and, during a Rhino attack, once again take on the mantle of a superhero, fighting against Rhino.
Subsequently, that world's Spider-Man would channel his anger and pain into battles, becoming a superhero who abhorred evil!
Similarly, his actions in Earth-96283 (Tobey Spider's Movie Universe) had also influenced that world to some extent.
Due to Peter and Gwen's arrival, the battle between Spider-Man and Green Goblin versus Venom and Sandman, which was supposed to happen, never took place. Moreover, the Green Goblin, who was supposed to die in the battle, survived.
The death of loved ones was originally meant to be a classic event that would propel Earth-96283's Spider-Man (Tobey Spider) toward growth.
There were many such instances.
As the Temporal Task Force grew and its members became more active, their actions inevitably had some impact on certain events.
Whether these impacts would affect the Web's nodes remained unknown.
However, after thinking carefully, Spider-Man 2099 realized that, just as Peter had said, neither he nor his subordinates' actions in various universes had ultimately destabilized those universes!
"We can start here... This is a mirror world, right? Can we go to the outside world first? I want to confirm something." Spider-Man 2099 suddenly spoke with a hint of urgency in his voice—something rarely seen from the usually stoic figure.
Neither Peter nor Gwen, nor even the more familiar Superior Spider-Man, showed any intention of mocking him at this moment.
Without much hesitation, Peter snapped his fingers.
The mirrored space around them began to shatter, fragment by fragment, dissolving into scattered shards before disappearing completely.
A few seconds later, they found themselves back in the real world.
Spider-Man 2099 stretched out his hand, activating the holographic travel watch on his wrist, pointing it toward the sky, and spinning in place.
Peter didn't understand what he was doing but didn't interfere, simply watching quietly.
After a while, Spider-Man 2099 turned to Peter and said, "Mr. Peter, I want to return to the Spider Society's base to carefully analyze this universe's situation. Is that okay?"
"Of course, go ahead," Peter replied indifferently.
He had no sense that he was letting a tiger return to the mountain.
After all, he bore no ill will toward the Spider Society's existence. As long as they didn't interfere with the Temporal Task Force's actions, they could do whatever they pleased.
Spider-Man 2099 gave him a deep look, nodded without speaking, opened a portal with his holographic travel watch, and walked through it.
"Aren't you going?" Peter turned to the Superior Spider-Man standing nearby.
Superior Spider-Man shook his head. "Why should I? It's pretty good staying here with you guys, hehe."
"I think you have ulterior motives, don't you?" Peter looked at him with a half-smile.
Super Spider chuckled sheepishly, lowering his head and making a bashful gesture with his hands: "Um... um... I just wanted to ask, how did you learn magic?"
"You want to learn magic?" Peter asked.
"Yes, yes, yes!" Super Spider said excitedly. "Wow, this is magic we're talking about! How could I not want to learn? Honestly, when I was a kid, I always wanted to be a magician!"
"Your world should have Doctor Strange too, right? Why not ask him? Maybe he'd be willing to teach you a few tricks," Peter said.
"Uh... well, I'm not exactly close with Doctor Strange, so... does that mean I can't learn?" Super Spider asked, a bit dejected.
"Of course, you can," Peter replied with a smile.
Super Spider was indeed a formidable character.
Although in the world Peter came from before crossing over, the animated series Super Spider-Man (Spider-Man Unlimited) was canceled due to poor ratings, Super Spider's experiences could never be erased.
To date, he had defeated two of his strongest enemies—one was the King of Symbiote Carnage, a fusion of the Venom symbiote and the Carnage symbiote from Earth-751263. The other was the High Evolutionary, the very creator of the entire Counter-Earth.
Both of them were incredibly powerful foes.
Before fusing into the King of Symbiote Carnage, both Venom and Carnage had already evolved beyond the need for human hosts, reaching a state where they could operate independently. In fact, the Venom suit that Gwen was currently wearing was even stronger than the Carnage that had once destroyed the universe of Earth-120703B.
With such a union of power, one could only imagine how terrifying the King of Symbiote Carnage was.
As for the High Evolutionary… he was an absolute idealist who sought to create a utopian world without war.
The problem was—he actually succeeded!
Through his advanced scientific methods, he transformed fish into fish-headed humanoids, turned cats into cat-eared girls, and even changed mice into ducks (scratch that). In this utopian, harmonious society, only humans were excluded due to their genetic predisposition for aggression.
With such an advanced mastery of genetic modification, how could the High Evolutionary himself not be at the pinnacle of evolution?
"I can teach you," Peter said with a grin, "but before that, I have a question for you."
Super Spider suddenly had a bad feeling, but his desire to learn magic overpowered his hesitation. "Go ahead."
Peter asked curiously, "What was it like kissing Madame Vermin?"
Super Spider: ???
Gwen, intrigued, asked, "Who's Madame Vermin? Is she your wife?"
At this, she shot Peter a suspicious glance.
Peter quickly waved his hands. "No, Gwen, it's not what you think! I'm really just curious!"
Super Spider sighed helplessly. "Madame Vermin is great and all, but I already have Mary Jane..."
