"Adeline's background isn't great. She has a father who is a gambler, a mother who is hospitalized, and a young sister to raise." Emily said.
"How tragic," Aurora muttered.
Emily looked at Aurora's face and quietly said, "Yes, but… that's not all."
Aurora raised an eyebrow. "Go on."
Emily checked her notes and continued,
"Adeline dropped out of college two years ago to work full-time. She tried her best, but she got involved with some shady people. One of them was a loan shark. She owes him a lot of money."
Aurora's face turned cold. "Did she pull Henry into this mess?"
Emily shook her head and said,
"Ugh...that...in fact, Henry was the one who had pulled in that mess. He had taken a loan in Adeline's name. Now, Adeline has to pay it off."
Aurora was surprised,
"What? Why didn't she sue him?"
"She tried, but first, she doesn't have enough money, and second, Henry has a recording where Adeline was saying that she is willingly taking the debt on his behalf."
