The plane's announcement faded into the background as I leaned back and closed my eyes. Exhaustion clung to me like a spider's web—no matter how I struggled, I couldn't break free.
Elijah's waxen face floated in my mind. Over the years, he had stood by me through life and death, helping build the company from the ground up. To me, he was more than a subordinate or friend—he was family. But now, Elijah's condition was deteriorating rapidly. The day after Harper left, the doctors had handed me his critical condition notice. So even if the rumors about the Healer were nothing but lies, I had no choice but to chase this lead.
