Chapter 14 - Ryker Case [4]

"Fallen, you piece of crap."

"What kind of sick joke did you put me through?"

Luke's eyes narrowed as he clenched his fist.

He was fuming with anger.

****

After hours went by, Luke was still lying on the bed he woke up on,

wondering whether everything was a dream or something else…

Hahh!!

"I guess I have no other choice."

"Alright, let's do this."

Luke got up from the bed. He knew crying or lying around about his transmigration wouldn't change anything.

He needed to move forward.

"Hey."

"Voice, you there?"

[....]

"Looks like it was temporary."

Luke decided to ask the voice again, but he was met with silence.

Though he had other questions he wanted to ask, that could wait for now.

The first thing Luke wanted to know was the condition of Ryker.

Luke knew about Ryker Case, him being one of the most important characters after the main character, Lucas.

But he still wanted to know what he was capable of.

"That voice said I got a system."

From his talk with the voice, Luke knew he had a system. He wasn't unknowledgeable about systems in transmigration novel genres.

Though he was still excited about it.

"Let's see it then."

.

"Status Window."

As Luke said it, the familiar screen popped up in front of his eyes.

"Now, this is at least a good thing"

Because Luke edited 'Chains of Eternity', he knew Ryker was one of the prodigies of his generation and with his memory merging with Ryker's, he could understand the concept of magic and skills easily.

Luke could feel it the way he was currently viewing the world was completely different from his previous world.

Luke checked his status more, as he needed to understand it generally.

"So, four skills and six different attributes."

"Ryker's base stats were better than Lucas's when he transmigrated into the novel."

Luke was currently stronger than the main character, Lucas.

But Luke knew it wouldn't always be like this.

Once Lucas started growing, he would soon surpass everyone though Luke wasn't going to let that stop him feeling great for today.

"What do the attributes do again?"

Luke knew what four of them did,

Strength determined his physical power. Dexterity determined his precision and reflexes.

Endurance determined his stamina, and intelligence determined his IQ and understanding of magic.

Though he was a little confused about Wisdom and Charisma.

As Luke was thinking, his hand touched the Wisdom attribute in the holo screen then another screen popped up.

[Wisdom: Determines mana control and resistance to mental effects.]

"Interesting." Luke was genuinely surprised.

"Then for Charisma."

[Charisma: Determines influence over others, persuasion and leadership.]

[....]

Luke was visibly surprised. From his understanding, Ryker's Charisma and Intelligence were above everyone else's.

He could easily control everyone with just his words.

But,

In the novel, he was the quiet type and somewhat cowardly.

However,

From seeing Ryker's stats, Luke couldn't understand why he was like that in the novel.

And the other thing that caught Luke's eye was Ryker's Wisdom stat.

His Wisdom stat determined his resistance to mental effects.

Ryker being a Sanctorum, Luke thought his Wisdom stat should be the highest due to how many mental attacks a Sanctorum receives.

Sigh!!

"Even if I want to know the reason, at this moment, I can't."

Ryker's stats were definitely suspicious, but Luke wasn't going to waste his time on that now.

He looked at the news broadcast that was ongoing.

From there, he found today's date.

[7 February, 2099]

'So I got around three weeks before the academy starts.'

"I will prepare what I can."

Luke remembered the academy would start in March. He still had time until the start of the academy.

Luke got up and dressed himself.

Click!!!

"Fine, I will do what you want, Fallen, but I promise next time we meet, I will kill you!!!"

Luke left the apartment where he woke up. He had his goal set. He would finish whatever tasks he was given.

He would make sure Lucas didn't get corrupted, and finally, he would break Fallen's jaw next time he met him.

Three Weeks Later

Nexus Academy

For the last three weeks, Luke or currently Ryker got to know about the world around him.

He didn't have photographic memory, so he didn't remember every little detail that was said in the novel.

So,

He looked for information. He trained. He needed to get used to his new body. In the past, he was five feet eleven inches.

Now, he was six feet two inches. He was taller than before and his body mass was bigger.

He wanted to get used to his body before the academy started throwing challenges at him.

He read the books the previous owner of the body read.

He used his skills so he could get familiar with them.

He read different research papers and theses on magic, monsters, and demons.

He was as ready as he could be for the academy.

****

As Ryker Case entered the academy grounds from the helicopter, he could see the entire iron fortress that was known as Nexus Academy.

Ryker wouldn't lie, he was excited about the future.

.

.

.

The different incidents that happened in the early chapters of the novel occurred just as they were written.

Lucas's introduction, his fall, obtaining his S rank skill and his first misfortune that happened during his very first duel.

.

.

.

.

Ryker got to know other important characters. Due to his high Charisma stat and naturally being an extrovert, he became friends with them easily.

He small talked with almost everyone in his section.

Unlike Lucas, who was a lone wolf, wanting to do everything by himself, carrying all the burden alone, Ryker wasn't like that.

If there were people that could make his life easier, he would use them without a second thought.

He had no interest in doing everything alone.

There were people that could do what he wanted them to do. He started planning everything.

But,

Not everything could be done by others. Sometimes, certain tasks needed to be done by him alone.

Like saving Lucas from his first misfortune.

*****

Lucas had some misfortunes that affected him physically and mentally.

Ryker would solve those misfortunes that affected him the most in the long run.

And the very first incident was during the first duel at the academy, where Sasha secretly applied a poison to her dagger that slowly destroyed Lucas's mana pathways without him even knowing.

So, Ryker used his skill on Lucas when he was in the infirmary to solve his misfortune.

Ryker had no interest in babysitting Lucas, but he would push him hard so he could grow faster.

After all, he was the destined hero…
