Winter had just tucked Seren into bed and was about to leave the room when her phone rang. Her brows furrowed at the sight of an unknown number flashing on the screen. She hesitated, finger hovering over the screen, but ultimately refused to answer.
When the same number called again—twice, then thrice—her suspicion grew. With a wary glance toward Seren's sleeping form, she stepped out into the hallway and answered the call, her voice edged with caution.
"Hello?"
Silence.
Her frown deepened. After all those relentless calls, the person on the other end refused to speak. She was about to hang up when a familiar voice finally broke the stillness, halting her finger mid-air.
"Winter..."
The crease between her brows tightened. Eric. His voice was unmistakable, though it slurred heavily, betraying the drunkenness lacing his words.
Still, the knowledge of his condition did nothing to soften her tone.
