Nicholas was outside when I got home. He looked so furious. He stared at me and asked, "Where are you coming from?"
I'm sure he already knew, since he keeps an eye on me all the time, but he wanted to hear it from my mouth. I knew I didn't do anything wrong, so I answered, "I went to the hospital."
He frowned. "To see that man? Are you even hearing yourself, Amber?"
"I never said I went there to see Caleb. Emily needed me, and I went there to see her."
"You can't tell me that you don't know what this is all about. That friend of yours only wants you to be around her brother. I'm not a fool, Amber. I know what I'm saying."
Here I thought I'd be back having the peace I needed after that confrontation with Caleb, but instead, I was met with another confrontation.
"Nicholas, please, I don't have the time to argue with you. I'm tired and need some rest."
"You dare not step away when I'm still talking to you. You dare not do that with me, Amber."
