Chapter 21 - Luck or Misfortune? (2)

Ding!

[It has been detected that the Host's Originat is lower than 30%.]

When Drake saw this, it felt as if the sky was falling. Bad luck truly enjoyed toying with him, but it seemed it wasn't done yet.

"Why are you two fighting each other? There's something much more important to do."

A female voice rang out from the forest. Both the young man and the middle-aged man immediately stopped clashing their auras against one another, and the tension in the air eased.

Drake could finally stop using Devourer Barrier and Abyssal Scale, which helped slow down his Originat consumption. However, he knew he couldn't last much longer like this.

He felt the urge to check on those around him. His curiosity got the better of him as he slowly raised his head, looking toward the front.

The moment his eyes landed on them, he shivered in fear. It wasn't three or four of them—it was a total of eight unknown, powerful cultivators.

Drake cursed inwardly. Life is such bullshit!

Why did they have to show up after he killed the wolf? Why couldn't they have arrived after he had already left? Now, not only were there eight of them, but they had also turned this place into their discussion ground—while his Originat was dangerously close to running out!

Drake honestly felt all hope was lost. He had just become a Devouring Dragon, yet his life was already hanging by a thread. He could only blame himself for being so weak and helpless.

Ding!

[It has been detected that the Host's Originat is less than 10%.]

Drake sighed in resignation. He had given up.

If luck was still on his side, maybe he would survive this.

"Idiot, use your Devour skill to silently devour the flesh of the dead wolf."

Drax's voice rang out in his mind.

When Drake heard this, it was as if a lifeline had been thrown to him. He didn't hesitate to grab onto it.

Ding!

[Devour Skill Activated.]

Drake silently devoured the flesh of the wolf into his Devourer Void Stomach.

As his Originat slowly recovered, he calmed down. It seemed luck was still on his side.

Taking advantage of the situation, he turned his attention to the eight cultivators and listened to their conversation.

There were five men and three women. All three women had youthful appearances, while the men were either middle-aged or young.

One woman had pure black hair, her sparkling black eyes adding to her striking beauty. She was the one who had spoken earlier.

Another woman had white hair and white eyes, equally stunning in her own right.

The last woman had red hair. While her beauty wasn't as breathtaking as the other two, she was still attractive. However, she radiated an aggressive aura, making her stand out.

As for the three men, two of them were middle-aged and slightly older, while the last was a young man in his thirties.

"Does anyone have any information on the dragon?" the lady who had spoken earlier said once again. "I hope no one is withholding any information about it. Let's put our grievances aside."

When they heard this, they looked at one another and sighed.

"Well, for me, I encountered a strange aura that felt like a desert. Everything there was dead—nothing could grow, and the place reeked of death. This was a strange occurrence in the forest," said the middle-aged man who had fought with the young man, known as the Sect Master of Fire Bloom.

When they heard this, they all fell silent.

"I also saw a small part of the forest tainted with the aura of death," the black-haired young lady added.

The more they discussed it, the more confused they became about what was really happening.

"You guys should check your surroundings," said the young man who was the Sect Master of Blood Valley.

Upon hearing his words, the others took a closer look at their surroundings, focusing on the carcass of the wind wolf.

"It's the same aura of death," the black-haired woman confirmed.

They exchanged glances before moving closer to the corpse to scrutinize it.

As for Drake, his entire body was trembling with fear. Seeing how close they were to him, he knew that one small mistake and he was done for.

"You know, this might be related to the dragon we're looking for," the Sect Master of Blood Valley said. "Considering the timing of the Dragon's Roar and the appearance of this death aura, there isn't much difference between them."

When Drake heard this, his heart skipped a beat, and fear made it pound even louder.

The others fell silent, staring at the corpse.

"Since the corpse is still fresh, the dragon might still be around. Let's check the surroundings," the black-haired young woman suggested.

Without hesitation, they all dispersed.

Seeing this, Drake finally felt a slight sense of relief. However, he still didn't dare to move. He used this opportunity to devour Originat quietly to recover his strength.

Not long after they left, their figures suddenly appeared in front of the corpse again, shocking Drake.

"You said you caught an unknown aura, but it seems you were mistaken," the Sect Master of Fire Bloom snorted.

The others shook their heads as they scrutinized the environment carefully before disappearing once again.

Drake let out a shaky breath. The Heavens must have saved him, or he would have been exposed. He silently wiped the sweat off his forehead but still didn't dare to move. Their strength was unknown, and his fear kept him rooted in place.

Not long after—

"I told you guys, there's nothing here, truly," one of them said.

Drake saw their figures emerging from the trees surrounding him once again.

He felt like cursing.

Can't they just give up?

They were still lingering in the area, monitoring the place again! He was utterly speechless.

After another round of inspection, they finally left, but Drake still didn't dare to move. He remained hidden for nearly an entire day before he finally burst out, sprinting back to the cave in an instant.

He didn't even think about coming back out— not after seeing the kind of people that were hunting him.
