Chapter 27 - News flash

"Is the World Consciousness okay?"

Jamie meant as if in a sound condition because why else would someone want to give her such supreme power? But the space spirit took it the other way.

"No, the World Consciousness has been declining a long time ago. You know, at some point in time, people were much aware of themselves and considered them one with nature. They were able to move mountains with their mind and they were nourishing the mother nature. But like everything, incline, and steady rate will naturally decline," Jamie saw the Space spirit manifesting a form for a second before disappearing. The Space spirit continued talking.

"The decline made humans immersed in the illusion of life, they started improving technology and I'm not saying it's bad, they left their balance. The selfish nature reared its head and the world became torn. You don't know but the World Consciousness experiences the pain of every living thing. The pain is unbearable."

Jamie felt like crying.

"And when the apocalypse came, the World Consciousness started losing Consciousness. Started falling asleep."

Jamie understood what it meant.

"Meaning the World was about to die."

The space spirit answered.

"Yes, that's why when there was a chance, the Consciousness added all the superpowers to your space, there was hope with you, you were given this chance."

This was a sad reality. Then again, the apocalypse was sad. It meant an end. An end that was impossible to escape from.

"How do I get the World Consciousness to become okay?"

The Space Spirit materialized like a pink ball and hovered before her. And it answered with a confused tone.

"Isn't it simple? Make the world okay?"

Yeah, she was an idiot, wasn't she? The way the people live, the World Consciousness reflects it. Till the World Consciousness takes back control of the World, she had to make sure it became a good place.

Jamie remembered the hideous faces of the zombies, those guild members who killed, Marc, and she thought, it wasn't going to be easy.

"Then, should I start giving people superpowers?"

The space spirit was learning so many poses from her. The ball made a frowning face and looked at her seriously.

"I'll allow only worthy people to get them for now. We can't risk bad people becoming powerful."

Yeah, she always knew bad people also had powers. Now it was because the world was in danger, but if it was normal, every bad person would get one. Wasn't it how it was in the apocalypse? That stupid Marc had one. But her favorite person, Kelly didn't have one. That sweet girl was a force with guns but she was spared when gods were granting superpowers.

Anyway, she was just a representative. The real boss can do whatever they wished.

"Okay, then we need some sort of place with an is well kind of vibe. Then we need people with superpowers. I'll think of a way."

Jamie thought all night. But she didn't think of a way. Was she supposed to rain superpowers? That wasn't feasible. What if those people left and joined the enemy? The Space Spirit could trust them but she had major trust issues.

"Whoa- oh, you look panda tired!"

Jamie didn't want to look in the mirror and confirm Leo's words. He was right.

"Yeah, I'm hungry!"

She found that the treehouse was filled with chatter. So the remaining people were here. Then that meant, Sawyer should be busy.

Good!

More time for her to think.

She sat eating absentmindedly while Leo kept charging and discharging batteries. How his lightning worked with electrical current, she didn't know but it was almost soothing to watch.

Sawyer slammed the door when he walked in. It was a pity because the door slowed down and it made no noise.

Jamie focused her attention elsewhere. Never talk with an enraged person. They will only yell at you.

"Brother Sawyer!"

"What? Have you not finished your assignment?"

See, case in point. Leo ran away scared, to finish his assignment. Jamie was debating to take her breakfast and run to her room but it was too late. Sawyer spotted her and he sat before her before she could get up.

"Hey, boss!"

He sighed.

"I have a bad news."

Well, it was okay.

"What's it?"

"The Council wants to separate Outer City from Inner City."

Okay, but what did it mean?

Seeing the same dumb expression on her that was a norm on Leo made Sawyer sigh. It was true, you pick up expressions from friends.

"It means, they won't give us funds. We are on our own. It's essentially saying that you are not a part of us."

Oh, that's it! She thought that they were going to war with them. This was okay, right?

"You don't seem concerned enough!"

Was she? Jamie schooled her face and put on a pitiful look.

"Too late, I know you don't think it is a big thing. But without funds, how will we buy food?"

"What exactly do they provide us?"

"Funds, equipment, repairing technicians. Colleges, books, everything!"

Oh! That was a bad thing indeed.

"Why are they doing this now?"

"Why else? They want us to bow down to them. You should know that some factions need people to do the hard jobs. They need slaves."

Jamie understood. They were using the Outer City People's weaknesses and turning them into their vassals.

"You knew it could become like this, that's why you wanted to become a leader."

"I had an inkling. They passed this rule today. It will be effective tomorrow."

He dropped his head.

Jamie was sad too. Her plan died before it started. She had to now think of a way to keep herself safe before thinking about how to give people superpowers.

"How nice would it be if I was the leader here!"

Sawyer mumbled.

Light bulb moment.

"You could be. Get up, Sawyer. I have a plan. We need to go."

Sawyer didn't move. He turned his face towards her with confused eyes.

She slapped his back with force.

"Get up, we are going to build a kingdom!"
