Chapter 58 - Birthday Preparations

The nest was buzzing with excitement as Mother began making preparations for our upcoming birthday. Tharros, Lyriath, Vyraxys, Nyxoria, Lyrixa, Kaidorix, and I were all turning 4 years old in just one week!

Mother was busy gathering colorful streamers and balloons, while Father was constructing a large banner with our names on it. Kieraxys, being the youngest, was "helping" by playing with the ribbons and chasing after loose balloons.

I watched the commotion with a grin, feeling thrilled about our special day. "Mother, what's the plan for our birthday?" I asked, curiosity getting the better of me.

Mother smiled, her eyes sparkling. "We'll have a big celebration, of course! Games, food, and plenty of fun with the whole family. And...," she paused for dramatic effect, "we'll have a special surprise for each of you!"

I look at Kieraxys. "This is your first time seeing your older siblings' birthday since now you are less than a 1 year old now!"

Kieraxys looked up at me with sparkling eyes. "Birthday party? Sounds like so much fun!" he exclaimed.

Mother smiled warmly at Kieraxys. "Yes, little one! Your older siblings are going to be 4 years old, and we're going to celebrate with their favorite foods and a flying race around the mountain!"

Kieraxys grinned mischievously. "I want to watch the flying race! Can I cheer for my big siblings?"

Kieraxys question "What will my 1st birthday be?"

Mother's face lit up with a warm smile. "Oh, Kieraxys, your 1st birthday is going to be so special! We'll have all your favorite foods, and we'll have a little flying ceremony just for you. And, of course, we'll have a big celebration with the whole family!"

I chimed in, excitedly. "And we'll get to eat lots of sweet treats, like honey cakes and fruit pies!"

Kieraxys' eyes widened with excitement. "Yay! I wuv sweet treats!"

Kieraxys looked at me and my younger siblings. "So who won during the birthday race?"

Mother answered, "1st time is tharros and 2nd time is Vyraxys and the 3rd time is tharros again."

Kieraxys looked at me with wide eyes. "Wow, Tharros! You won twice!" He turned to Vyraxys. "And Vyraxys, you won once! I want to win next year!"

Vyraxys chuckled. "Good luck, little brother! Tharros is really fast!"

I grinned, feeling proud of my racing skills. "Hey, I've been practicing! Maybe next year, Kieraxys, you'll give me a run for my money!"

Kieraxys ask mother "wait when I had a birthday race, it will just be me!"

Mother laughed. "That's right, little one! When you have your birthday race, it will just be you flying around the mountain. You'll be the only one competing, and you'll get to set your own record!"

Kieraxys' look at Mother in shock, "wait how does this even fair?"

Mother chuckled. "Well, little one, it's not about competing against others, but about challenging yourself and having fun! You'll get to fly around the mountain, feel the wind beneath your wings, and enjoy the thrill of the race."

Kieraxys looked puzzled, "But...but how will I know if I'm fast or not?"

I chimed in, "That's the best part, Kieraxys! You'll get to beat your own time every year and try to fly faster and faster!"

Father sighed, "and after they were done racing, they would take a picture from me, and their first birthday was very difficult to make them stay still!"

I giggled, remembering the struggle. "Yeah, Father, we were so full of energy before the race! It was hard to sit still for even a moment."

Vyraxys chuckled. "I think I was the worst one. I kept flapping my wings and trying to fly away."

Father laughed. "Yes, and Tharros, you were trying to climb up my leg. It was quite the challenge to get a good photo before the big race!"

Mother smiled, "I'm glad we managed to get a few good photos despite the chaos. I'll have to show them to you again sometime."

Just then, Father spoke up, "Speaking of which, I think it's time we started getting ready for this year's birthday celebration! Who's excited?"

We all cheered and flapped our wings in excitement. Kieraxys looked up at us with wide eyes, "I'm going to be a big brother soon! Can I help with the preparations?"

Mother smiled, "Of course, little one! We'll need all the help we can get to make this birthday one to remember!"

We all cheered and flapped our wings in excitement. Father smiled, "Alright, let's get started! We have a lot to do before the big day."

Mother began handing out tasks to each of us. "Tharros, Vyraxys, can you two help me gather some fresh fruits and berries for the celebration?"

Vyraxys, with his dark bronze scales, nodded, "I'll fly ahead and scout out the best spots!"

I grinned, showcasing my silver scales. "I'll meet you there, Vyraxys! Let's see who can find the most delicious treats!"

Mother looks at Lyriath and Nyxoria and Lyrixa and Kaidorix

Mother turned her attention to my siblings. "Lyriath, Nyxoria, Lyrixa, and Kaidorix, can you four help Father prepare the flying course for the birthday race?"

Lyriath, with his dark and blood-red scales, nodded enthusiastically. "I'll make sure the course is challenging but safe!"

Nyxoria, with her amethyst scales, smiled. "I'll help Father set up the starting line!"

Lyrixa, with her rose gold scales, bounced up and down. "And I'll make sure the finish line is decorated with colorful streamers!"

Kaidorix, with his forest green scales, grinned mischievously. "I'll hide some surprises along the course to make it more exciting!"

With our tasks assigned, we all scattered to begin our preparations. Vyraxys and I flew off towards the nearby forest, searching for the ripest fruits and berries.

As we flew, the warm sun beat down on our scales, and the wind ruffled our wings. We chatted excitedly about the upcoming celebration, our voices carrying on the breeze.

After a while, we landed in a clearing, surrounded by lush greenery and vibrant wildflowers. Vyraxys grinned at me. "I bet I can find more berries than you!"

I chuckled, my silver scales glinting in the sunlight. "Oh, I don't think so! Let's see who comes out on top!"

Father sighed. "Let take a picture already, little ones!"

We all gathered around Father, trying our best to sit still and look presentable. Vyraxys, still full of energy, kept flapping his wings, while I, Tharros, tried to stifle a grin.

Lyriath, Nyxoria, Lyrixa, and Kaidorix all settled in, trying to look serious for the photo. But it was clear that we were all bursting with excitement for the celebration to come.

Father chuckled, his albino scales shimmering in the sunlight. "Alright, alright... say 'Happy Birthday'!"

(Flashback)

We all gathered around Father, but it was chaos. Vyraxys was flapping his wings wildly, trying to fly away, while I was climbing up Father's leg, my silver scales glinting mischievously.

Lyriath, Nyxoria, Lyrixa, and Kaidorix were all squirming and fidgeting, making it impossible for Father to take a clear photo.

Father laughed, his albino scales shimmering with amusement. "Alright, alright... settle down, little ones! Just one good photo, please?"

Just as Father was about to snap the photo, Vyraxys made a particularly vigorous flapping motion, causing his dark bronze scales to glint in the sunlight. I, meanwhile, reached the top of Father's leg and perched on his hip, wrapping my tail around his waist.

The others continued to squirm and fidget, making it a challenge for Father to keep everyone in frame. But despite the chaos, Father's eyes shone with warmth and amusement, his love for us clear in every glance.

Finally, after what seemed like an eternity, Father managed to snap a photo, capturing the chaotic yet joyful moment. We all looked at him expectantly, waiting for his verdict.

Father chuckled, examining the photo. "Well, it's not the most perfect photo, but it's definitely... memorable." He smiled, showing us the photo.

We all gathered around, peering at the image. Vyraxys was mid-flap, his wings blurred in motion. I was perched on Father's hip, my tail wrapped around his waist. The others were all slightly blurry, their faces scrunched up in various expressions of excitement and mischief.

Father smiled, "You know, I think I'll send this photo to Grandmother. She'll love seeing how much energy you all have!" He got up and walked over to a nearby crystal, which began to glow as he touched it.

Father sent the photo through the crystal, which was connected to Grandmother's own crystal. We all waited eagerly, knowing that Grandmother would respond soon.

After a moment, Father's eyes lit up with a smile. "Grandmother says she can't wait to see you all on your special day! She's sending a message to show you something special."

We all gathered around Father, excited to see what Grandmother had in store for us.

Father's eyes sparkled with excitement as he watched Grandmother's message. He turned to us, a smile on his face. "It seems Grandmother has a special surprise for us. Let's make sure to be on our best behavior when we see her on our special day!"

Father sighed, "But you are not old enough because your eyes are not fully developed to have a draconic Resonance!"

We all looked at each other, understanding. Our eyes were still developing, and we wouldn't be able to use Draconic Resonance until we reached the juvenile stage. Father smiled, "Don't worry, my little ones. You'll be able to use Draconic Resonance soon enough. For now, let's just enjoy the special day ahead of us!"

(End of flashback)

I returned to the present, a warm smile on my face as I remembered the happy times with my family. We had been excitedly preparing for our upcoming 4th birthday celebration, and I couldn't wait to relive the joy and excitement. I glanced over at Kieraxys, our youngest sibling, who was still a tiny ball of energy, not yet a year old.

I sigh "well that first attempt on trying to take a picture wasn't that bad at the end!" I smiled

Father chuckled, his eyes crinkling at the corners. "Indeed it wasn't, little one. And I'm glad we have the memory of it, even if the photo itself is a bit... chaotic." He smiled, ruffling my scales with affection.

The sun is setting, and me and all my younger siblings sleep, and I goto my usual sleeping place under Father wing

I snuggled into my usual sleeping spot under Father's wing, feeling the warmth and security of his presence. The soft rustle of his scales and the gentle beat of his heart lulled me into a peaceful sleep, as the sun dipped below the horizon. The sounds of my younger siblings' gentle snores and Vyraxys' occasional sleepy wing flutter filled the air, creating a soothing melody that accompanied me into dreamland.
