Caitlyn left the Bluewind Manor in tears.
Although Link Star hadn't read the letter, he could guess its contents. As he had said, it was a mother's most heartfelt confession. In the current timeline, Caitlyn had lost her mother, while in another timeline, Cassandra had lost her daughter. Both had lost someone dear to them, and through the letter, their emotions resonated deeply.
This was why Caitlyn had left crying.
Link only hoped she could emerge from the shadows soon and become a cog in the machine that kept the twin cities running smoothly, making the intricate system even more perfect.
After seeing Caitlyn and Vi off, Link glanced at the time. It was already past 5 a.m., and sunrise was less than half an hour away.
He made his way to the manor's observation deck, designed for watching the sunrise. As the sea breeze brushed against his face, he gazed into the distance and summoned the Dimensional Mailbox, opening a blank page.
"Dear Anonymous Traveler,
Thank you for your unwavering support!
From the cursed knowledge of the gifted to the designs of the Möbius Drive, you've helped me immensely.
Now, I can proudly declare that the mission is complete.
From this day forward, the twin cities will embark on a radically different future.
And I will make Piltover and Zaun great again!"
After reviewing the letter a few times, Link sent it to his top patron, along with updates and greetings to a few other sponsors.
With that done, he turned his gaze back to the horizon. A golden light began to break through where the sea met the sky. As the sun rose, its radiant but gentle light dispelled the darkness, illuminating both the heavens and the twin cities.
Standing high above, Link looked down at the city and whispered, "Good morning, Piltover and Zaun."
With that, he turned and left. It was time to begin his next project.
The twin cities were just a small part of Runeterra. Beyond them lay a vast world waiting to be explored: the immortal fortress of Noxus, the anti-magic forests of Demacia, the eternal frost of the Freljord, the spiritual essence of Ionia, the elemental logic of Ixtal, the chaotic lawlessness of Bilgewater, the celestial legends etched into Mount Targon, and the countless secrets buried beneath the sands of Shurima.
He would see it all with his own eyes.
Two Weeks Later
The hum of the transport pod's cables filled the air as it descended. Darcelle, expressionless, stared intently at the door. As the pod shuddered to a stop, the door slid open, and she stepped into Link's underground workshop.
She was here to give him a piece of her mind.
For the past two weeks, Link had been holed up in his workshop, not once showing his face. His only contact with the outside world was through material requests and the occasional delivery of supplies. Meanwhile, she had been drowning in paperwork, dealing with the endless stream of documents and plans needed to keep the twin cities running.
And where was he? Hiding away, leaving her to handle everything.
Today, she was determined to drag him out and make him take responsibility.
As she entered the workshop's main hall, her eyes immediately caught the mess: blueprints and sketches scattered across the floor, blackboards covered in equations and data, and tools like hammers, wrenches, and screwdrivers piled haphazardly in the corners. Nuts and bolts were everywhere, and the walls were scarred with cuts and dents, evidence of some chaotic experiments.
Before she could process the chaos, a loud bang from the testing chamber startled her. She turned and marched toward the sound, only to find Link holding a peculiar-looking revolver.
The gun had a short, thick handle, barely enough for a single hand, and no stock. The barrel was encased in a brass mesh, with some kind of liquid solution bubbling inside. The cylinder, snug against the frame, seemed almost fused to the body.
As Darcelle observed the strange weapon, Link pulled the trigger. There was no muzzle flash, only ripples emanating from the barrel, like waves on water. A blue projectile tore through the air, striking a crystal target with a deafening crack. The projectile split upon impact, scattering smaller pellets that left deep craters in the ground.
Darcelle frowned. This weapon was fundamentally different from any conventional firearm. It was silent until impact, and the projectiles were unlike anything she'd seen before.
Before she could speak, Link lowered the revolver and turned to her. "Hey, what brings you down here today?"
Darcelle's anger flared. "You—"
But Link cut her off, handing her the revolver. "Never mind that. Come help me test this new weapon!"
She clenched her teeth, snatched the gun, and tried to adjust the sights.
"This is the Hextech Revolver," Link explained, standing beside her. "It's different from regular firearms. No need to adjust the sights—just point and shoot. It combines the best of Hextech and Chemtech."
"The bullets are vials of alchemical solution, propelled by a tiny Hextech crystal inside the grip. When fired, the solution solidifies into a semi-solid state, allowing for silent shots. Upon impact, the projectile delivers both kinetic force and a chemical explosion."
"And because the bullets are semi-solid, they split on impact, creating a secondary scatter effect. In other words, aim at a crowd, and you'll take them down like a scythe through wheat."
Darcelle fired a few test shots. Despite her anger, she had to admit the revolver was an impressive weapon.
"It's excellent," she said, "but don't tell me you've spent the last two weeks working on just this!"
"Ha, of course not!"
Link slung an arm around her shoulders and led her to a specially designed exhibition room. Inside, crystal display stands held an array of weapons and equipment.
"These are the fruits of my labor over the past two weeks. Let me show you!"
He took the revolver from her and placed it on a nearby shelf. The stands and shelves were all made from crystal, crafted using Pride's abilities.
"First, the Electroflux Blade!" Link picked up a long, slender sword.
The sheath was made of translucent crystal, housing a curved, lightning-like blade. The hilt featured a rotating wheel that served as the guard.
"By turning the wheel, you generate an electric charge that builds up in the sheath. At maximum charge, drawing the blade releases a shockwave that damages everything in its path. Even after that, the blade remains electrified, delivering shocks to anyone it touches."
Darcelle stared in awe as Link set the sword down and picked up a piece of lightweight armor.
"The Hextech Aegis—a lightweight chest plate that generates an electrostatic field to protect the wearer. It also enhances physical abilities, boosting reaction time, strength, speed, and endurance!"
Next, he grabbed a peculiar-looking belt.
"The Hextech Rocket Belt. It has a built-in grappling hook that can latch onto walls and propel the wearer across terrain."
Link continued showcasing the other weapons and equipment.
"Hextech Swarm Drones—multifunctional tools for reconnaissance, tracking, targeting, and area suppression."
"Hextech Flying Blades—four blades controlled via a central orb, perfect for both melee and ranged combat."
"Runic Armor—an upgraded version of my old clockwork exoskeleton. It's equipped with flight capabilities, multi-threaded firepower, and external ports for attaching various weapon modules."
"But these are just tools for self-defense."
Darcelle's jaw dropped as Link spoke. When he called these "just tools," she swallowed hard.
"The real game-changer is this!" Link carefully picked up two palm-sized mirrors.
They weren't ordinary mirrors—their frames were made of Ionian copper, encasing a crystal surface.
"The Hextech Runic Communicator!" Link handed one to Darcelle and activated both devices. The crystal surfaces flickered before displaying their faces and transmitting their voices in real time. "This allows for instantaneous audio and visual communication, regardless of distance."
Darcelle's hands trembled, nearly dropping the communicator. She clutched it tightly, her lips quivering as she spoke.
"I'm sorry, Link... no, Uncle!"
"Huh?"
"I mean it—I'm sorry! From now on, you can stay in the workshop as long as you want. Whatever materials you need, I'll get them for you. Just keep inventing!"
She pressed herself against him, her voice filled with fervor. "As long as you keep creating, I'll fulfill any request you have!"
