Ever stood on the balcony of Nathaniel's house, her hands resting on her round belly as she gazed at the stars. A warm cup of tea rested in her hands, something Nathaniel had made for her before sneaking off to finish a phone call.
She didn't expect him to come back and wrap his arms around her from behind.
"You should be inside. It's getting cold," he murmured, his voice close to her ear.
A shiver ran down her spine not from the cold, but from the way his breath tickled her skin. "I'm fine, Doctor Carter."
He chuckled, his arms tightening slightly around her. "Doctor Carter? We're way past formalities, don't you think?"
Ever tilted her head slightly, a teasing smile playing on her lips. "Fine. Nathaniel. Happy?"
Instead of answering, he turned her gently to face him, his hands warm as they cupped her face. He looked at her like she was the only thing in his world. "I'm happy when you're happy."
