Chapter 300 - 300. Blackthorn City

As the evolved form of Pineco, Forretress appeared like it was encased in impenetrable armour. It lacked visible limbs, with a red shell that had a narrow slit along its midline, revealing its eyes. Four tube-like extensions protruded outward from its sides.

Hovering in midair, its design was highly unusual. It lacked obvious Bug-type features and instead resembled a fusion of Rock and Steel.

With a type advantage, Tuesday felt confident. Venusaur's Grass-type moves would barely scratch Forretress, giving him the illusion that victory was already his.

However, as the battle unfolded, he quickly realized something was wrong.

Under Kai's command, Venusaur opened the match with Tackle, quickly following up with Sleep Powder. While it didn't put Forretress to sleep, it caused it to hesitate just enough to expose an opening.

Seizing the opportunity, Venusaur used Leech Seed and Growth, simultaneously strengthening itself while slowly draining its opponent's stamina.

At the right moment, Kai issued the command Venusaur charged forward with a takedown, knocking Forretress back. Then, it wrapped its vines around the Bug-type, swinging it through the air for several rotations before slamming it hard onto the icy battlefield.

At that instant, Leech Seed took full effect, sapping the last remnants of Forretress' strength.

Boom!

Forretress crashed into the ice, leaving behind a massive crater before fainting on the spot.

Tuesday's eyes widened. "Nani?!"

For Kai, this wasn't exactly a flawless battle.

The biggest imperfection lay in Venusaur's condition it had suffered significant damage from Forretress' type advantage. But despite the odds, Kai still emerged victorious.

Shrugging, Kai smirked. "See? I told you earlier you should've sent out your strongest Pokémon!"

That was pure salt in the wound.

Tuesday ignored him.

In truth, Forretress had been his strongest Pokémon. He had wanted to teach Kai a lesson for being cocky but instead, he had been utterly defeated.

And the worst part?

Even with a complete type advantage, he had lost spectacularly.

Now, faced with Kai's smug remark, he had nothing left to say.

Seeing Tuesday's frustration, Kai knew the battle had humbled him. He turned to Monday instead.

Despite the Week Siblings' well-known reputation, their actual strength wasn't exceptional. They were talented trainers, but compared to Kai, a Champion-tier trainer, the gap was obvious.

It was also apparent that neither sibling recognized his identity, and Kai saw no reason to correct them.

"Let me take over."

Seeing her brother lose, Monday patted his shoulder reassuringly before stepping forward and summoning her ace Pokémon.

"Be careful, sis. This guy isn't ordinary."

"I know."

Compared to Tuesday, Monday had been a trainer for a year longer, making her slightly stronger.

Kai recalled Venusaur and reached for his second Poké Ball.

Monday smirked. "Just like you said, this is my strongest Pokémon. I hope you're satisfied. Come out, Lombre!"

As they both threw their Poké Balls, two Pokémon materialized on the icy battlefield Lombre and Jolteon.

Lombre, a Water/Grass-type, bore a resemblance to a small kappa. It had a green body, a broad lily pad on its head, red fingers and toes, short round ears, and a beak-like red mouth.

However, compared to the previous battle, the roles had reversed this time, Kai had the type advantage.

And Lombre was about to get absolutely fried.

As a barrage of Thunderbolts rained down, Lombre was quickly reduced to a smoking, charred mess. Even the frozen battlefield melted into pools of water under the heat of Jolteon's attacks.

Monday was defeated even faster than her brother.

"We lost."

The siblings exchanged glances before silently stepping forward. Each reached into their pockets and pulled out a badge, handing them to Kai.

Tuesday muttered, "Here. This is my Badge."

Monday added, "And this is my Badge. Take them, unknown trainer this is proof of your victory against us."

Kai raised an eyebrow.

He examined them carefully.

The two badges were identical in shape, except one was red and the other was blue. Aside from that, they looked like the standard badges he had seen before in his previous life.

Still, every battle contributed to his growth.

With a nod, Kai stored the badges away carefully. "Thanks."

Just as he turned to leave, Monday suddenly called out.

"Unknown trainer our other siblings are still travelling across Johto. If you encounter them, you can challenge them too. I guarantee you won't be disappointed! And… I'll make sure to tell them about you, so they can 'avenge' us."

Kai yawned, stretching lazily. Without turning around, he waved a hand over his shoulder.

"Got it. I'll be ready anytime."

The Next Morning

After a night of rest in Ice Cave, Kai and Sabrina woke up feeling refreshed and resumed their journey.

The battle with Monday and Tuesday had been a mere footnote in Kai's adventure easily forgotten the next day.

The latter half of Ice Cave was just as easy to traverse. And just as the map had indicated, when they emerged from the cave, they found themselves descending into the valley where Blackthorn City stood.

Blackthorn City is a secluded town nestled in the mountains.

It was said that a mysterious Dragon's Den lay hidden within these mountains, home to many Dragon-type Pokémon. Because of this, many trainers from Blackthorn City specialized in Dragon Pokémon.

At the northernmost point of the city stood the Blackthorn Gym.

The one who watched over it and wielded the Rising Badge was none other than Clair the master of Dragon Pokémon.

And when talking about Clair, one could not ignore her cousin the legendary Dragon Master, Lance.

Both of them belonged to a prestigious clan of Dragon Tamers, and while Lance's fame overshadowed Clair's, she was by no means weak.

In fact, since the founding of the Blackthorn Gym, this clan had always held authority over it.

Growing up training within the Dragon's Den, Clair had developed unshakable confidence in her strength. She boldly proclaimed herself the greatest Dragon-type master and was even known to challenge Elite Four trainers.

And rightfully so throughout her years as Blackthorn Gym Leader, she had defeated countless challengers who sought to claim her Rising Badge.

Among all the Gym Leaders in Johto, Clair was undoubtedly one of the strongest.
