"You've got some nerve coming here knowing damn well you're not welcome—and then pulling this," Avond said, yanking Asti by the arm with an iron grip, unrelenting and merciless as she struggled for dear life. But no matter what, he just couldn't let her go. Not after what she did to Celeste.
"Let me go! She was the one who hit me first!"
"Liar!" Avond yelled in her face, shaking her so hard that her teeth rattled.
For the first time ever, he saw genuine fear in her eyes. She swallowed.
"You think she's perfect, some do-gooder, but she's a lying, slimy bastard who doesn't have a bottom to her low! You..." Asti gritted her teeth, speaking practically through a clenched jaw, "You know that better than anyone, so how dare you!"
Asti shoved him off and stormed away.
Avond grabbed her arm again, this time slamming her against the wall. He could hear the air knocked out of her. She flinched from the pain but didn't cry out.
"Don't you know that I'm pregnant?"
