Chapter 122 - In search of the rat

Getting the Marauder's Map was finally easier than I thought.

It's always nice when everything goes as planned.

The first thing we had to do was find Ron talking alone — not very discreet to leave Harry in the house.

Then they ran into Malfoy, who made a disparaging remark about Ron's family, and you could see Harry's footsteps coming up behind them.

I don't understand how he can think that being invisible means acting so recklessly.

While Malfoy and his friends were panicking when mud fell on them, I felt it was the right moment to reveal Harry.

I cast a tiny Summoning Charm to pull the part of the cloak that was covering his head.

As soon as they saw Harry's floating head, they freaked out and ran back to the castle.

They directly warned Professor Snape, who, by a method we don't know, managed to catch Harry barely as he came out of the secret passage.

After asking Harry to empty his pockets, he found the Marauder's Map, which was apparently enchanted to insult him — probably because of what happened in the Marauders' youth and Professor Snape.

He called Professor Lupin to examine the map, and while Lupin defended Harry, he still confiscated it, claiming that Sirius might "use it to kill him."

How do I know that? I'm in the same room as Sirius, Professor Lupin, and even Crookshanks.

"It's good to see you again, Remus."

"I'm only here to be sure of what you say, but apparently Evelyn trusts you."

He was skeptical, and that's understandable — for 12 years, he believed that his friend was a cold-blooded murderer who had killed his two other friends.

"The scenario that most people know is true, but there's too big a gap that suggests we don't have the whole story. So when I saw it, I directly asked for answers, and they made more sense than the other version."

"You've got to believe me, Remus. James was like a brother to me. I would never have betrayed him — I would rather die or be tortured by the worst pains than betray my brother. We didn't tell you that Peter was the Secret Keeper because we had some doubts about you. Who would have thought that this decision would cost James and Lily their lives?"

His voice became sad as he regretted that choice.

"Besides, you know Peter — always hiding behind the powerful. I can't believe I was dumb enough not to notice."

This confession was apparently the only thing Professor Lupin needed.

"I decide to believe you, but don't approach Harry as a precaution."

"Don't worry, I already lost my best friend and left his child for 12 years — I don't want to let him take any risks."

"With this map, it will be easier to find Peter and keep an eye on Harry."

"This group is still quite strange — a werewolf, a criminal Animagus, the two of us, and a cat."

Professor Lupin seemed surprised that Marie knew he was a werewolf, but when we told him we had no prejudice against them, he calmed down.

"Remember, if we want Sirius to be free, we must capture Peter and take him to the Ministry."

Sirius seemed upset about leaving Peter alive, but if it allowed him to spend time with his godson, then he would respect this agreement.
