Chapter 9 - THE HOUR OF RECKONING

The floor of the Uzumaki living room lay shattered, revealing the dark earth beneath. Himawari's eyes widened in shock as she realized she was unscathed, despite the man's Jutsu mere inches from her face.

"Huh..??" she whispered, confusion etched on her features.

The man's hand hovered above her, motionless, his Jutsu dissipating into nothingness. His mind raced with questions. "Strange... why didn't the house blow up? And why is the girl still alive? And why can't I move?"

Boruto stood frozen, his Rasengan faltering before it could fully form. His eyes locked onto the man, shock and confusion written across his face. "How... why did you stop?" he wondered.

Just then, Shikamaru who was seated on the floor spoke in a calm voice,"You're not going anywhere." Shikamaru's Shadow Possession Jutsu had neutralized the man's attack, saving Himawari.

The man's gaze snapped towards Shikamaru, and for an instant, his eyes narrowed. Then, comprehension dawned. "Ah, the Shadow Possession... no wonder I couldn't move."

A low, menacing chuckle rumbled from the man's throat. "It's useless, you idiot! I can absorb your Jutsu."

Shikamaru's eyes widened in disbelief as the man claimed to absorb his jutsu. "A-absorb my Jutsu? But how?!" he thought, his mind racing with questions.

Just then, he noticed the man's eyes - a pair of piercing, deadly Rinnegan eyes. "W-what, no way... Shit, where is..."

Suddenly, a fierce voice echoed from the garden of the Uzumaki house. "You bastard!"

A figure emerged from the shadows, his iconic blonde hair messy and unkempt, his bright blue eyes blazing with intensity. He wore a vibrant orange shirt, paired with black trousers, and a flowing white cloak with the in which "Nanadaime Hokage" in bold was written on the black.

The man's gaze shifted between Naruto and his children, a sly smile spreading across his face. " Hokage I'm happy that you're blessed with good children. One opens the door thinking it's you," he glanced at Boruto, "and the other," his eyes locked onto Himawari, "gives away her things thinking her father was the one asking for it." He chuckled, his voice dripping with malice. "How innocent of them!"

Boruto's anger turned inward, his mind racing with regret. If only he had listened to Ino's instructions and not opened the door... None of this would have happened.

Himawari's eyes welled up with tears as she looked at Naruto, her voice barely above a whisper. "Papa... I-I'm so sorry."

Naruto's expression softened, his eyes filled with warmth. "Hima, there's no need to apologize. When Papa's around, no one can hurt you."

Shikamaru's voice cut through the tension, his words laced with urgency. "Naruto, be careful! This man can absorb ninjutsu. Also, he has—"

Naruto's hand raised, silencing Shikamaru.

"It's alright, I'm not facing this man for the first time." His gaze turned intense, his eyes locked onto the man. "I've fought him before."

The air seemed to thicken, the weight of Naruto's words settling in. Boruto's eyes widened, his mind racing with questions.

Naruto's gaze shifted to Boruto, his voice firm. "Boruto, look out for Himawari."

The unspoken message was clear: protect your sister at all costs.

Boruto called out, his voice urgent, "Himawari, come here!" The man's chuckle sent shivers down Boruto's spine, his eyes glinting with malevolence. "My, my, are we getting serious already?"

Himawari's small feet pattered against the floor as she approached Boruto, her eyes wide with fear. But before she could reach him, the man sprang into action, his lightning blade flashing in the dim light.

"Not so fast, brat!" he snarled, charging towards Himawari.

Naruto didn't hesitate, his face set in a fierce determination. "You think I'll let you do that!" he bellowed, charging towards the man with a Rasengan glowing in his hand.

Shikamaru's eyes widened in terror as he screamed, "Naruto, don't!" But his warning fell on deaf ears.

In a shocking turn of events, the man veered away from Himawari and targeted Naruto instead. "Alright... first, you!" he snarled, his lightning blade aimed squarely at Naruto.

Naruto's eyes narrowed, his grip on the Rasengan tightening. For a moment, he seemed taken aback, but then his face set in a fierce resolve. "Idiot," the man spat, seeing Naruto's determination.

The air was electric with tension as the two attacks collided. The Raikiri and the Rasengan met in a shower of sparks, unleashing a maelstrom of destruction. The force of the impact sent shockwaves through the room, threatening to tear the house asunder.

The flooring creaked and groaned, the tables and sofa splintering under the pressure. Boruto wrapped his arms tightly around Himawari, shielding her from the chaos. Both of them closed their eyes, bracing for the worst as the dust and debris swirled around them.

Shikamaru's eyes scanned the devastation, his anger simmering. "I told him not to..." he muttered, his voice laced with frustration.

The dust slowly settled, revealing a scene of utter destruction. The once-cozy living room now lay in ruins, the furniture shattered, and the walls cracked. Boruto and Himawari emerged from their protective embrace, coughing and covering their faces from the dust.

Shikamaru's gaze swept the room, searching for Naruto and the man. But they were nowhere to be seen, lost amidst the dust and debris.

Boruto and Himawari's eyes snapped open, scanning the dusty wreckage for a glimpse of Naruto. The moonlit night cast eerie shadows on the walls, amplifying their anxiety.

"Papa... no!!" Himawari's cry was tinged with panic, her small body trembling as she called out for her father.

"Tou-chan?!" Boruto's face twisted in worry, his eyes frantically searching the ruins.

Shikamaru's shout cut through the chaos, his voice laced with urgency. "Boruto! Take your sister and leave the house immediately!" His eyes locked onto Boruto, emphasizing the gravity of the situation.Boruto's gaze met Shikamaru's, his expression resolute. "G-Got it!" he stammered, understanding the danger that lurked within the destroyed house.

He turned to Himawari, his voice firm and reassuring. "Let's go, Himawari!" Grabbing her hand, he helped her navigate through the debris-strewn hallway.

As they emerged into the night air, the cool breeze carried the scent of smoke and destruction. The moon cast an eerie glow over the devastated neighborhood. Himawari clung to Boruto's hand, her eyes welling up with tears. "Papa will be okay, right,Onii-chan?" her voice trembled, her lower lip quivering.

Boruto's face set in determination, trying to reassure his sister. "Yeah, Hima. Tou-chan will be fine. We just need to get to safety." He tried to sound confident, but the uncertainty gnawed at his heart.

Shikamaru's expression was grim. He knew Naruto's strength, but the mysterious man's abilities were unknown. A sense of unease settled in the pit of his stomach, his mind racing with worst-case scenarios.

The destroyed house loomed behind him, a stark reminder of the danger that lurked within. Shikamaru's gaze lingered on the rubble, his heart heavy with concern for his friend.

Shikamaru's eyes widened in shock, his gaze fixed on the horror unfolding before him. The man, who had been battling Naruto, was now airborne, his body blown away by the destruction. But what sent Shikamaru's heart racing was the man's trajectory - he was heading straight for him!

The man's flight wasn't intentional; he was merely a victim of the chaos, tossed about like a rag doll. Yet, fate seemed to be conspiring against Shikamaru, bringing the man crashing down on him.

Time seemed to slow as Shikamaru's mind processed the impending impact. He tried to move, to dodge, but his body felt heavy, unresponsive. The man's speed was too great, his descent too rapid. Shikamaru was frozen in place, unable to react.

The man's body crashed into Shikamaru's, sending them both tumbling to the ground. "Gaah!!" The man exclaimed, his voice a mix of pain and shock.Shikamaru's scream was louder, more anguished. "Uaahh!!" He felt the wind knocked out of him, his body crushed beneath the man's weight.

Meanwhile, Naruto's battle had reached its climax. He had been blown away, his body crashing into the garden wall with a loud thud. The wall cracked under the impact, sending shards of stone flying everywhere.

Naruto's thoughts were laced with frustration. "Damn it!!" He had been so close to defeating the man, but now...now he was stuck, pinned to the wall, unable to move.

The night air was filled with the sounds of destruction, the scent of smoke and dust hanging heavy over the devastated neighborhood. Shikamaru and the man lay entwined, their bodies a tangled mess. Naruto's gaze was fixed on the wall, his mind racing with strategies to escape.

The man's gaze fell upon Shikamaru, his eyes blazing with annoyance. "How can I fall on a filthy thing like you!" he spat, his voice dripping with disdain. "Now pay for it since you've irritated me enough!"

Shikamaru's anger flared, his hands instinctively rising to clutch his head. "First of all, I saved you... and on the other hand, you're blaming me!!" he exclaimed, his voice rising in indignation. He caressed his head, muttering under his breath, "Damn it,my head."

The man's sneer deepened, his lip curling in contempt. "No one asked you to open your mouth, you geezer," he taunted, his words dripping with malice.

Meanwhile, Naruto struggled to his feet, his eyes wide with shock and confusion. "H-How does he know the Raikiri?!" he stammered, his mind racing with questions. He scanned the house, searching for the man, but what he saw made his blood run cold. "Shikamaru!" he screamed, his voice echoing through the room.

The man's grip on Shikamaru's face tightened, his single hand holding him immobile and in agony. Naruto charged forward, his fist flying in a desperate bid to save his friend. "You bastard!" he snarled, his anger boiling over.

The man released Shikamaru, his eyes glinting with amusement, and delivered a devastating kick to Naruto's abdomen. The force of the blow sent Naruto crashing to the grass, his body crumpling in a heap. "Argh!!" he groaned, his voice muffled by pain.

Shikamaru, still sitting on the floor, weak and helpless, attempted to use his Shadow Possession Jutsu again. "Tsk... come on, not again!" he muttered, his frustration and anger simmering just below the surface. But the man absorbed the jutsu through his eyes, leaving Shikamaru feeling frustrated and useless. "Dammit! Shame on me!" he cursed, his head in his hands.

Just then, Boruto stepped into the entrance of the Uzumaki house, his eyes scanning the room with caution. He took in the scene before him, his mind racing with questions. What was happening? Who was this man?

The man turned to Shikamaru, his voice dripping with malice. "Don't you think you're getting too cocky, Shukaku's brat?"

Shikamaru's eyes widened in shock as the man's words echoed in his mind. "Brat?! Why did he... Forget it, how does he know my father's name?! Just who is he?!" His thoughts swirled with confusion and alarm.

Before he could process anything further, the man raised his hand, and a series of thin, metallic rods protruded from his Rinnegan. With swift, precise movements, he drove the rods into Shikamaru's hands and legs, rendering him immobile.

Shikamaru's cry of pain filled the air as the rods pierced his skin, the agony coursing through his body like liquid fire. His vision began to blur, but he saw the man's satisfied smile, fueling his rage.

Just then, Boruto entered the room, his eyes scanning the chaotic scene before him. His heart sank as he took in the sight of his father, Naruto, lying on the grass, barely conscious. Shikamaru, his friend's father and almost an uncle to him, was slumped against the wall, blood seeping from the rods lodged in his limbs.

Boruto's face set in determination, his instincts kicking in. He rushed towards Shikamaru, his hands trembling with worry. "Old Man Shikamaru! No! Who did this?!"

The man's gaze shifted to Boruto, his Rinnegan gleaming with interest. A sinister grin spread across his face, and he took a step forward, his movements fluid and menacing.

"What do you plan to do, young Uzumaki?" the man taunted, his voice dripping with malice. "Will you try to save your family, or will you join them in their misery?"

Boruto's anger boiled over, and without hesitation, he charged towards the man, his fist flying in a fierce punch. "You Bastard!" he snarled, his face contorted with rage.

The man raised his hand, and to Boruto's surprise, effortlessly caught his punch. His grip was like a vice, unyielding and crushing.

Boruto's eyes blazed with fury as he glared at the man. "Why are you doing this?! Just what do you want from us?!" he demanded, his voice trembling with anger.

The man's expression changed, his eyes glinting with interest. "Oh, really?" he said, his voice dripping with amusement. "Then give me that turtle, and go away." Boruto's confusion deepened. "What would an old man like you do with a simple toy?" he spat, his disdain evident.

The man's smile grew wider, his eyes sparkling with mirth. "Heh, it's not a simple toy, kid," he said, his tone dripping with malice. In an instant, the man's demeanor shifted, his expression turning cold and calculating. "I'm just here to take that turtle," he stated, his voice firm and unyielding. "If you give me that turtle, then I won't hurt you or your family."

Boruto hesitated, his mind racing with conflicting thoughts. A part of him screamed to protect his family and friends at all costs. If giving up the turtle would ensure their safety, then perhaps it was worth considering. But another voice whispered doubts. What if this man's true intentions were far more sinister? What if he had already destroyed the village or worse? Could Boruto really trust him?

Boruto's eyes narrowed, his gaze locked onto the man's. He searched for any sign of deception, any hint of ulterior motives. But the man's face remained impassive, his eyes unwavering.

Boruto's resolve hardened. He wouldn't make any rash decisions. He needed to know more about this man and his true intentions.

Boruto's eyes never left the man's face as he asked, "What's so special about the turtle?" His voice was cautious, but his actions were deliberate, designed to mislead.

He subtly patted his pocket, making a show of protecting the nonexistent turtle. The man's gaze flicked to Boruto's pocket, a hint of satisfaction dancing in his eyes.

But when Boruto awaited the man's response, he was met with silence. The man's smile grew wider, his eyes glinting with amusement.

"You don't need to know," the man said, his voice dripping with condescension. "All you need to do is hand it over."

Boruto's instincts screamed warning. This man was hiding something, and Boruto wasn't about to let him get away with it.

"But why?" Boruto pressed, his tone firm. "What's so important about this turtle that you're willing to hurt my family and friends?"

The man's expression turned cold, his eyes flashing with annoyance. "Enough questions," he growled. "Hand it over, or watch them suffer."

Boruto's heart pounded in his chest. He knew he had to stall, to keep the man distracted until he figured out his next move.

"I'm not giving you anything," Boruto said, his voice steady, his eyes locked onto the man's.The man's face darkened, his Rinnegan gleaming with malevolent intent. "Fine," he snarled. "Then let's see how long you last."

With a swift motion, the man raised his hand, and the rods embedded in Shikamaru's limbs began to glow with an eerie energy. Shikamaru's cry of pain echoed through the room, and Boruto's resolve hardened.

Boruto's eyes widened in horror as he gazed at Shikamaru's tortured form. "Old man Shikamaru!!!" he screamed, his voice cracking with desperation.

His mind racing, Boruto thought frantically, "What shall I do? Shall I give him the toy or not?! Can I really trust this man to spare my family and friends?" The weight of responsibility threatened to crush him.

Just then, Shikamaru's weak voice cut through the chaos. "Boruto... no matter what happens... don't give him the turtle... Just have faith in your dad... He will save us... Believe me, just don't do anything reckless."

Boruto's gaze snapped to Shikamaru, his eyes locking onto his friend's pain-ravaged face. Despite the agony, Shikamaru's eyes shone with determination and conviction.

Boruto's resolve hardened. He understood what had to be done. "I know," he said, his voice firm, though laced with worry.

The man's patience, however, had reached its limit. His face twisted in a snarl, he grasped Boruto's hand with an iron grip, his fingers closing like a vice.

Boruto's bones creaked under the pressure, the sound of grinding joints echoing through the air – KRIK KRIK. His hand felt like it was being crushed, the pain shooting up his arm like a wildfire.

"Unh! Argh!!" Boruto screamed, his voice torn from his throat. His knees buckled, but the man held him upright, his grip unyielding.

Tears sprang to Boruto's eyes as he felt his hand begin to numb, the agony threatening to consume him. His vision blurred, but he refused to yield.

Shikamaru's words echoed in his mind – "Have faith in your dad." Boruto gritted his teeth, drawing strength from the thought. He wouldn't give in.

The man leaned in, his breath hot against Boruto's ear. "Last chance, boy... Hand over the turtle, or watch your friends suffer."

Boruto's response was a defiant glare, his eyes burning with determination. The man's smile grew wider, his eyes glinting with sadistic pleasure.

"Very well," the man whispered, his voice dripping with malice. "You really want to see them suffer don't you"

The rods pierced Shikamaru's shoulders and limbs once more, courtesy of the man's Rinnegan. Shikamaru's cry of agony echoed through the room, his body contorting in anguish.

"Shikamaru-san!!" Boruto screamed, his voice laced with desperation.Shikamaru's face crashed towards the floor, his body crumpling. "Gaah!!" he groaned, his voice barely audible.

Boruto's eyes welled up with tears as he pleaded with Shikamaru, "Shikamaru-san... You!! Come on... wake up!!"

The man's voice cut through Boruto's despair, his tone dripping with malice. "Now, tell me where that thing is, or do you want me to..." He paused, a sinister grin spreading across his face. "Kill your sister in front of your eyes."

Boruto's eyes snapped shut, his face contorted in horror. His voice trembled as he whispered, "Dammit... Tou-chan... Wake up!!" Tears streamed down his face, his body shaking with fear.

Meanwhile, Shikamaru lay barely conscious, his mind racing despite the agony. "H-how did he get to know about the turtle... I thought this was the talk between me, Naruto, and Sasuke... Then how does he know that!!" His thoughts trailed off, his vision fading to black.
