Once she finished her conversation, she rushed back to the Baxter Building, destroyed all of Reed's inventions, and burned them. When the man returned, she unleashed all her punches on the elastic-powered man without letting him say a word, finally throwing her wedding ring and expelling him from the Baxter Building once and for all.
She also ended her relationship with Ben and her brother Johnny, as they too had turned their backs on Peter, driving her mad because Johnny had always said Peter was like a brother, but he didn't even support him with kind words; instead, he attacked him as well.
Three years ago, Hydra took control of Johnny's mind, unleashing him in a destructive rage. His first victim was Reed, who was melted from the inside out.
Susan didn't care about the fate of Reed or Johnny or anyone else, except for her children, especially Valeria, as she was her only memory of Peter.
Susan sat there, staring blankly at the ceiling, lost in memories-memories of when Peter changed Franklin's or Valeria's diapers, of when he played with them, took them to school, or attended school with her as their guardian.
How Valeria would always forget and call him "Dad" instead of "Uncle Peter." Each time he would look embarrassed, but he'd smile a sincere smile.
She wished those moments would come back. She wished she could live in that past. She loved that past, where Peter was around, her kids were happy, and they hadn't yet seen the harshness of the world-when Valeria would laugh instead of being the bitter, angry girl she had become.
She hated her foolishness for believing Reed. If only she had stayed. If only she had come back sooner, maybe Peter would have stayed and not left.
Only if
Only if
Only if
Only if
So many " Only if "s, but even hope fades with time, leaving only a shell filled with memories that prevent a person from moving forward. For Susan, a world without Peter Parker was a world not worth bothering to advance in.
Susan placed her hand over her eyes as she lay in bed, and her tears began to fall. "I only wish I could see you again, Peter," she whispered in a soft, weak voice.
"As you wish, my dear," a quiet, cold voice responded in her ear. Before Susan could even react to the voice, she was blinded by a brilliant light engulfing the destroyed room.
When she opened her eyes, she found herself in an elegant room. Susan squinted because she didn't know where she was or how she'd been transported there, but she felt like she'd seen the room before.
She looked at the window on the side and went over to it. She found herself looking at the vast ocean, and suddenly, the memories of the room came back to her, and she remembered where she'd seen it. "I... I'm in Hawaii."
Susan began running quickly, tripping over some clothes but catching herself. She reached the large mirror in the room, looking at herself in shock and holding her face in disbelief.
"I'm younger," Susan stayed in place, staring at herself. "Is this some kind of illusion?"
The same voice that spoke in her ear before replied, "No, my dear, this is not an illusion. This is your second chance to fix the future."
Susan looked around quickly, a slight tremor of fear in her voice, "Who's there? Show yourself!"
The voice chuckled slowly in her ear. "Unfortunately, beings from the first dimension cannot see me because their brains would explode."
"W-what?" Susan's face turned pale with fear, but she gathered her courage. "But who are you, really?"
"A friend of a certain spider. That's all you need to know, because you're in the past to fix the future."
Susan's eyes widened in shock. "Peter... Do you mean Peter's here, and I can see him?"
The voice responded as it slowly faded away, "Yes. And all you need to know is that you're not the only one."
The words caught in Susan's throat, but after a moment, she shouted, "What do you mean I'm not the only one?"
But she received no reply, and no matter how much she tried, the voice did not respond. Frustrated by being ignored, she gritted her teeth because she partly understood that Peter might slip from her grasp, as there were others who had come back from the same future.
She quickly went to gather her clothes and those of Franklin and Valeria. Once she finished, she went to wake the children, "Wake up, Franklin, Valeria. Come on."
Franklin and Valeria opened their eyes slowly, looking at their mother with half-closed eyes. Suddenly, they saw the suitcases, and Valeria spoke slowly and sleepily, "Why the suitcases, Mom?" Franklin nodded in agreement towards their mother.
Susan held both of them close. "Because we're going to New York, my dear. Your father needs us."
Valeria, the sharper of the two, raised an eyebrow. "Father? Reed needs us? Why would..."
Before Valeria could finish her sentence, Susan stopped her, looking into her eyes. "Don't ever call that man your father. We're going to your real father, Valeria. We're going to Peter."
Valeria's eyes widened in shock, and the sleepiness vanished from her face, just as it did for Franklin, and the two shouted together, "What?"
