Chapter 49 - Chapter - 46 : Lantern Festival [4]

Part 11: The Quiet Conversations - Long Chen and His Family

The Lantern Festival was nearing its end, and the vibrant celebrations were slowly starting to fade into the evening. The sky, painted with hues of pink and orange, set a peaceful atmosphere that embraced the Imperial Palace. The sounds of laughter and music from the festival still echoed in the distance, but a certain tranquility enveloped the small, serene garden where Long Chen, his lovers, parents, and Emperor Chu had gathered. It was one of those rare moments when the hustle and bustle of the world around them faded, leaving only the comforting warmth of familial bonds and quiet conversation.

Long Chen sat down with his back against a large, ancient tree, the gentle breeze rustling the leaves above. His parents, Long Tianxiao and Mrs. Long, sat close by, while his lovers—Chu Yao, Meng Qi, Tang Wan'er, Lu Fang'er, Xiao Hua, and Ye Zhiqiu—were gathered nearby, sharing soft smiles and content gazes.

Long Chen: (taking a deep breath, glancing around at his loved ones) "It's hard to believe how quickly everything is changing. Sometimes, I wish I could stay in moments like these forever."

His voice carried a tone of deep reflection, and those who were closest to him felt the weight of his words.

Mrs. Long: (smiling gently, her eyes warm with love as she reached out to place a hand on his shoulder) "You've beckme one to look toward the future, my son but have never forgotten the wish to obtain these quiet moments-- the moments that shape us, that remind us of the things worth protecting."

Long Tianxiao: (nodding in agreement, a rare, soft expression on his usually stoic face) "Your mother is right. Life moves fast, but it's these moments, these simple times together, that stay with us the longest."

Chu Yao: (her voice soft, but steady, as she looked at Long Chen with affection) "And you have us, always. We are all here, enjoying this peace with you."

Meng Qi: (gently smiling, the serene expression on her face mirroring that of the others) "Yes, no matter where the road takes you, we will always be a part of your journey."

Tang Wan'er: (her eyes full of understanding, softly squeezing Long Chen's hand) "The world can be chaotic, but you're never truly alone as long as we're with you."

Long Chen: (smiling, feeling the weight of their words, then turning his gaze back to his parents) "I've always known that, but hearing it from all of you now... it feels like everything is finally falling into place."

Lu Fang'er: (playfully leaning in toward Long Chen, her voice light and teasing) "We're all just one big family, right? So, tell us, Long Chen, what's going on in that brain of yours?"

Xiao Hua: (nodding with a soft laugh) "We know you're always thinking about something. Don't keep us in the dark."

Long Chen chuckled at their words, but there was a flicker of something deeper in his eyes. The quietness of the moment was a perfect contrast to the often chaotic life he led, and he knew that this would be one of the memories he cherished the most when he had to leave again.

Long Chen: (sighing softly as he leaned back against the tree, looking up at the sky) "I've been thinking a lot about the future. There's so much ahead of me, so many challenges waiting. But it's hard not to be worried about leaving. I'll be gone for a while, and when I return, who knows what will have changed?"

Mrs. Long: (her tone thoughtful as she met his gaze) "You've always been a protector, Long Chen. But sometimes, even the strongest warriors need to let go. Trust that we'll be here when you return, no matter how long it takes."

Long Tianxiao: (his voice low but full of conviction) "The future will always have its uncertainties, but your strength, your wisdom, it's more than enough to face what's ahead. You've already proven that time and time again. You will return, and when you do, you'll come back stronger than ever."

Long Chen: (smiling at his parents, appreciating their unwavering faith in him) "I don't know what I'd do without you two. You've always been my anchor."

Chu Yao: (eyes soft and serious, as she gazed at Long Chen) "Whatever happens, just know that I'm here for you. We all are."

Meng Qi: (smiling with quiet strength) "Yes, we'll be waiting. And we'll continue to support you, even from afar."

Tang Wan'er: (holding her hand over her heart, her eyes shimmering with emotion) "Our hearts will always be with you, no matter the distance."

Lu Fang'er: (grinning playfully, though her voice was filled with sincerity) "And don't even think about running away without saying goodbye properly. I'll chase you down if I have to."

Xiao Hua: (chuckling softly) "And we'll make sure he stays safe, right?"

Ye Zhiqiu: (gently adding, her voice tender but full of conviction) "We'll watch over each other, and when you return, we'll all be waiting, stronger than ever."

Long Chen: (his heart swelling with gratitude, he stood up slowly and looked around at everyone, his gaze lingering on each of their faces) "You all are everything to me. I'm not leaving you behind, not truly. You'll be in my thoughts every moment, every second."

(The group sat in comfortable silence for a while, each person lost in their thoughts, the weight of the conversation settling into their hearts. They all knew that the path ahead for Long Chen was filled with uncertainty, but they also knew that he would face whatever came with the strength of his love and the support of those around him.)

The end drew closer, the moons at highest into the sky, casting a silvery glow over the garden. The quiet chatter of the festival was now distant, replaced by the sound of crickets and the soft rustling of the leaves. It was a peaceful night, the calm before the storm of Long Chen's departure.)

Long Tianxiao: (finally breaking the silence, his voice as steady as ever, though there was a trace of emotion in his tone) "You've grown, Long Chen. The boy I raised is now a man who stands at the forefront of our people. I couldn't be prouder."

Mrs. Long: (eyes glistening with unshed tears, her smile soft but full of love) "And no matter how far you go, you'll always be my son, Long Chen. Always."

Long Chen: (his voice thick with emotion as he moved closer to his parents, bowing his head respectfully) "Thank you… both of you. I don't think I could ever truly express how much your love has shaped me. I will make you proud."

Long Chen paused for a moment, looking at his lovers and then back at his parents.

Long Chen: (softly, but resolutely) "When we return, we'll have more moments like this. I won't let anything tear us apart."

His words, full of hope and determination, seemed to linger in the air, a promise to everyone present. His lovers smiled softly, their hearts filled with warmth, while his parents exchanged a proud look, knowing their son would face the world head-on and conquer whatever challenges awaited him.

Chu Yao: (her voice full of warmth as she moved closer to Long Chen) "You know, I'm still not used to seeing you so serious. But I think it suits you. Just remember, whatever happens, you're never alone."

Meng Qi: (nodding, her tone gentle but firm) "We'll always be a part of your story, Long Chen. The best part of it."

Tang Wan'er: (smiling playfully, her eyes sparkling with affection) "And don't think you'll get away from us that easily. We'll be waiting for you, and trust me, you'll need us to keep you grounded."

Lu Fang'er: (grinning mischievously) "Yeah, you won't be able to run away from us, even if you tried."

Xiao Hua: (her voice soft and sincere) "Wherever you go, we'll be watching, waiting, and supporting you. You're never far from us, Long Chen."

Ye Zhiqiu: (looking at him with deep affection) "We'll carry your heart with us until you return."

As the the Night of Festivak almost reached ot the end, it continued to settle in, a gentle atmosphere lingered around the garden where Long Chen and his loved ones sat. The sounds of the Lantern Festival were now distant, and the group was enveloped in a comforting stillness.

Quietly, a conversation began between the two men, Long Chen's father and Emperor Chu.

Long Tianxiao: (sitting across from Emperor Chu, his voice calm but tinged with a hint of nostalgia) "It's hard to believe how much has changed, Chu. Do you remember the days when we were young and foolish, fighting side by side?"

Emperor Chu: (his eyes twinkling with humor as he chuckled softly, his posture relaxed) "Foolish, indeed. But those were the days of glory, Tianxiao. We faced our enemies with reckless abandon, but somehow always came out victorious." (pausing for a moment as he thought back to the past) "Now, here we are, our children grown, with their own paths to follow. The times have changed, but the bond between us remains unchanged."

Long Tianxiao: (his expression softened as he nodded, looking at the peaceful scene in front of them) "Yes. Those days, they shaped who we are now. But I never imagined our children would find themselves in such great destinies."

Emperor Chu: (his tone suddenly turning serious, though still warm) "Indeed. And with Long Chen's strength, I know he's destined for greatness. He'll protect what we've built and carry our hopes forward."

Long Tianxiao and Emperor Chu shared a knowing look, a shared understanding of their children's futures and the weight of the responsibilities placed upon them. Despite the changing world, they were still bound by the same values they had held since their youth—honor, loyalty, and the desire to protect their families.

Mrs. Long Joins...

As the conversation between the two men continued, Mrs. Long moved closer, her expression soft yet filled with pride as she joined the conversation. She had always been the grounding force for her husband, and now, as Long Chen prepared to leave, she felt the familiar wave of emotion that came with the passage of time.

Mrs. Long: (smiling warmly as she sat down next to her husband, resting a gentle hand on his arm) "You two still speak as if the years haven't passed. The same fire in your eyes, the same camaraderie." (she glanced at Long Tianxiao with affection) "I remember those days. When you were so carefree, laughing together as if nothing in the world could touch you."

Emperor Chu: (grinning playfully at Mrs. Long's words) "Carefree? You mean foolish, right?"

Long Tianxiao: (chuckling, his eyes soft as he looked at his wife) "We were young. And I think, sometimes, we still carry that same carefree spirit, even now." (his voice turned a bit softer as he glanced at Long Chen) "But now, we watch them grow, ready to face the world. It's different, in a way, but just as important."

Mrs. Long: (her voice filled with warmth and a touch of sadness) "It's hard to let go, isn't it? Watching them grow, watching them step into the world. But we've raised them well, Long Tianxiao. I have no doubt that Long Chen will be fine."

Emperor Chu nodded, the weight of the conversation sinking in. He glanced at his daughter, Chu Yao, who was quietly sitting next to Long Chen, and then back at Long Tianxiao and Mrs. Long. He could see the love and pride in their eyes, and it mirrored his own feelings for his daughter and Long Chen.

Emperor Chu: (his voice more tender now as he turned toward Mrs. Long) "They've both found something special in each other. Long Chen, the girls and qll other kids of the two Legions are strong in their own right, but together, they'll be even stronger. Also, our families, united by this bond... I never thought I'd see the day. Alo the fact that I got many more daughters (smiling with warmth"

Mrs. Long: (smiling with a mix of pride and affection as she looked at her daughter and Long Chen) "Yes, and it feels like fate, doesn't it? After all these years, our children have found their way to each other. It's like the heavens themselves have written their story."

There was a brief silence as the family absorbed the conversation. The quiet calm of the evening wrapped around them like a comforting embrace, and in the distance, they could hear the soft laughter of the festival goers. The world outside continued to turn, but for this moment, inside the garden, everything felt still, as if time itself had slowed to allow them to savor this quiet time together.

As the stars began to twinkle in the night sky above them, the conversation shifted to lighter topics. They spoke of dreams, of the future, and of the things they hoped for. But as the night wore on, there was an unspoken understanding between them all—the future was uncertain, but as long as they stood together, there was nothing they couldn't face.

Long Tianxiao: (glancing at Emperor Chu with a small, knowing smile) "It seems like the next generation will carry the torch. I suppose that's how it's meant to be."

Emperor Chu: (nodding, a quiet smile tugging at his lips) "Yes, they will. But we'll always be here to guide them, won't we, old friend?"

Long Tianxiao: (his voice soft as he leaned back against the tree, his eyes on the stars above) "Always."

The conversation fell into a comfortable silence, the family content in each other's company. Long Chen's family and Chu Yao's Parents: [Emperor Chu and Empress] (as well as other girls' parents -- who were accepted as his Emperor's daughters: Meng Qi, Xiao Hua, Tang Wan'er, Ye Zhiqiu and LuFang'er) shared this fleeting moment, knowing that soon they would part ways-- the Elders and kids will part ways, but they also knew that no matter how far apart they were, this bond would never break.

Long Chen knew that the road ahead was uncertain, but as he looked at the people gathered around him—his family, his lovers, and sworn brothers and sisters. The future was coming fast, but for now, he could enjoy this moment of peace, knowing that it was these moments, these people, who would carry him through whatever trials awaited him.
