Staying at the cathedral was probably the worst decision I have ever made but now was not the time to regret or attempt to backtrack. I needed to know that Vickson was still alive, I needed to know our standing in this messy situation.
If I didn't feel as though my life was being threatened, I wouldn't have attributed this collapse incident to a work of nature or some monster breaking out. It could be Marcus, at one of his ugly games—or the evil sorcerer bent on taking over our world.
The rain was falling sideways.
The sharp, slicing wind drove it in through the broken cathedral windows, the ones we'd tried so hard to board up before the last siege. But like everything else we'd attempted to protect—it too had fallen apart. Now the storm had no need to ask permission. It roared through every gap in the stone and screamed louder than the ghosts.
