They stepped into the house, the maids and every other person in the room bowed in respect to their boss. Naomi was sitting comfortably on the couch at the centre of the room.
"Welcome boss." She greeted her while standing up.
Mariam flashed her a smile. "I knew I could trust your selections but you didn't have to pick the overly outstanding ones, did you?"
Naomi walked towards the dresses, studying them closely as her fingers made way to feel the texture once again.
"This isn't just about you wearing it, boss, you'll be promoting MH's designs. I know our fashion ideas haven't reached their peak and yet everyone already knows even without showing off too much, they still need to know what's on ground." She explained.
Even before the whole long explanation , Mariam already understood her intentions which was simply the promotion of her designs.
" In the next two hours we'll start to get you ready. The program starts at 7pm." Naomi stated before a phone call interrupted their conversation.
Thessa gave Mariam a look knowing fully well what she's thinking about at the moment. "Two hours isn't long, you going to visit Henry would only delay your preparation. Anyways, Josh, Nema and I are going on a stroll later on."
Mariam, already getting discovered, feigned innocence before giving her a reply. " And who told you I'm thinking of paying him a visit? Your mind!"
The test strip flashed through her mind and a frown appeared on her face. How's she going to break the news to Thessa and Naomi...what would their reaction look like?
Why the sudden feeling of unrest?
" What's wrong?" Thessa asked, Mariam's worried look didn't go unnoticed by her.
She knew she couldn't hide it from Thessa for long, she isn't used to hiding things from her bestie anyways, there's no way such an important gist would be an exemption.
" Let's go to my room, I'll tell you there." Mariam replied and the two went upstairs, rushing up the stairs. Naomi couldn't help but shake her head at how the two act sometimes.
" We are here now....wait! before you speak, hope it isn't serious?" Thessa asked, her heart was beating faster than usual and that only happens when she's anxious.
Mariam pulled her to sit beside her on the bed."You'll be the judge, only your reaction can tell." She unzipped her pause and brought out the pregnancy test strip.
" You are pregnant!" Thessa didn't need to see the pink color, just the sight of the indicator was enough to tell the tale.
Mariam nodded slowly. "Henry's the father." Her voice became low like she was communicating with the breeze.
Thessian could believe it, although medicine was her line she still couldn't believe it, so she replied professionally. " In some cases, the pregnancy test strip, although mostly correct, might show a wrong result due to some factors, so you should go to the hospital for a checkup. A proper one I mean."
" Thess, this will affect my career, going to the hospital is only going to make things worse for me. Everybody knows me, they'll question what I'm doing there." Mariam frowned.
Thessa stood up. "That's the point, your career, but you have to risk it this time." Although worried about her friend's face and some other slanders that could be made up, she knew the hospital was the best for now.
Mariam also was worried. The entire world knows she and Henry Williams are dating but a baby getting involved would only awaken frenzy comments.
Though it's common for celebrities to get pregnant out of wedlock, it could still affect many things and the person involved was Mariam. Mariam Percey! Has she forgotten where she came from?
At the thought of her family background, misery clouded her. How could that have skipped her mind, she isn't even engaged to him, she hasn't even shown him to her parents. This sounds like a disaster.
Mariam Percey was the last daughter of Robert and Florence Percey. One of the top influential politicians of Aranda city and an underground lord full of so many business strategies and flourishing business.
"What do I do now, what if it's positive like the test strip?" Mariam asked worriedly. Her light brown eyes deemed as she drowned in worry.
One social group she feared the most was her family.
"Calm down, okay?" Thessa placed her hand on Mariam's shoulder. "Keep it in mind that it would be negative and if it turns out positive, I'll find a solution to it." Her comfort didn't go deep into Mariam.
"I know, I know." Mariam stood up and walked towards the standing mirror before shaking her head. "If there's really a baby in my belly, I'm keeping it. I won't hurt my child, it would act as a symbol of love between Henry and I. I Haven't even told him yet but I'm sure he'll be happy with the news once I break it to him tonight." A smile appeared on her glossy lips.
Every other worry was buried in an instant.
"After the program tonight, I'll branch at your clinic and get the test done, it should be highly confidential there, right?" She asked faintly, her eyes gaining its lovely vibe back.
Thessa nodded in approval. " No one will know about it but be preparing a good explanation for your parents once the results turn out positive. Parents and their huge problems."
When Thessa left the room, Mariam placed her palm on her belly and rubbed it slightly. "I can't feel anything, maybe it's negative and all the nausea and early morning vomiting, fatigue and appetite change are just symptoms of another thing.
Right now she doesn't even know what she wants anymore. Positive or negative, choiceless! Nature will determine. But she was sure that night happened, something happened that night she couldn't remember. Was she drugged? Why couldn't she remember anything?
Frustration gnawed at her. After staring at her flat belly for a long time she went down stairs. "Thess!"
"Uhn," Thessa who was examining the dressing once again looked up in response. "What's wrong?"
"If I remember clearly, pregnant people do not menstruate. I haven't seen my period for this month, I'm late....I'm not sick." Mariam said in a low voice, she sounded worried and at the same time happy.
Thessa couldn't believe her heart. " A month!" That's screaming positive, she still didn't want to prove anything by random assumptions. "Still, get a check up done. There are so many factors that can affect the menstrual cycle."
Mariam hoped so as she stood beside Thessa to check on the new dresses that were brought in again. They were all royal colors. A purple mermaid night dress with a pair of long black gloves, a red above knee length with a fitted sleeve and lastly, a blue ball gown, it looked really heavy and had a sky blue short glove.
"The stylist should be here soon." Naomi said, walking towards their direction. "I love the purple one, it looks more matching to your complexion and it would bring out your body shape well. No one will be able to take their eyes off you."
"Nope." Thessa countered. "It looks plain, I think the blue would be better, it looks more extravagant, full of life and bouncy, it's emitting the angelic vibe. What do you think Mariam?"
Naomi and Thessa faced her, expecting her reply, who is she going to side with this time? Mariam on the other hand, already saw this coming. She couldn't choose from what they already picked even if she liked it.
She shrugged, "I'll go with the simple red dress." She smiled. "It looks more elegant yet simple. And its dark color will fit my skin color more perfectly. The purple looks too full of designs and the blue looks too full of material. The red is my choice."
"It looks okay, I didn't even pay much attention to it, it's nice." Naomi commented before walking away.
" Hmph! always wanting to be better." Thessa scoffed and Mariam laughed. "Josh and Nemah should be here any moment from now, I'll be outside.
"Hmm." Mariam nodded.
"Ma'am, the food is set." A maid informed her.
"I'm not hungry," Mariam replied without even glancing at the maid.
APPETITE.
The maid bowed slightly before walking away gracefully. She didn't know what to do with the food so she left it on the table after covering them.
Maybe she isn't hungry because of the stress from the journey. Mariam isn't that kind of person who would neglect her food for anything, most especially when she's not on diet.
