The moment's weight settled over the chamber, the flickering light of the torches casting long shadows across the walls. Emperor Ares had given Luke the chance to ask his questions, and though he had many, most of them were meant for Saint Cynthia when he met her. Instead, he settled on one that he could ask now.
"If you don't mind…" Luke began, his voice careful. "Could you tell me more about Saint Cynthia?"
He hesitated, then bowed his head slightly.
"I know the circumstances between you, and I don't mean to pry where I shouldn't. Forgive me if my question is inappropriate."
A brief silence followed before Emperor Ares reached out, taking his wife's hands firmly in his own. His expression was unwavering as he met Luke's gaze.
