Chapter 22 - DAY 2 - TASK AT HAND

In the morning on Doom Planet, the magic words in the sky shift from Day 1 to Day 2. Suddenly, a powerful voice echoes across the planet as God speaks, "You have all survived the first wave of doom. Your reward is a possible way out. You will be given two tasks, and if you complete at least one, you may turn it in and escape from Doom Planet. All Stars may reroll their tasks once every four hours. When the next morning arrives, Doom Wave 2 will begin."

All Stars on Doom Planet suddenly see their own assigned tasks, visible only to them.

In Taeo City, inside a park, Tomi glances at his given tasks:

Kill 250 Taeo citizens or Steal the magic Fusion Core from Taeo Silva.

He smirks and mutters to himself, "A way out, huh? Hmm… Most low-level Stars who think they won't survive the next wave will probably take on these tasks. But the high-level mortals? They'll ignore them. And the reason is simple—they don't want an easy way out. They want to rack up more points, and the best way to do that is to survive as long as possible."

Walking up to his Star team, he notices a few of them deep in debate, uncertain whether to go through with their tasks. Tomi speaks up, "If you're scared of death, go ahead and do it. But if you still believe in me and Kayle, then ignore them. We can survive longer and earn more points. Do what you must."

His team reconsiders after hearing his words.

Suddenly, a Star with green skin lunges at Tomi from behind, a dagger in hand. Tomi dodges just in time as the attacker quickly hops around the park, evading counterattacks from Tomi's teammates. The Star lands in front of him and grins.

"My task is to kill you, Tomi!"

With a burst of speed, the Star charges forward, slashing his dagger. Tomi reacts instantly, disarming him in a swift motion and pinning him down.

"Give it up. That task is impossible for you," Tomi says, his voice calm yet firm. "Reroll it in four hours, or you die here."

Fear fills the Star's eyes as he hesitates before nodding. Tomi releases him.

But the moment he's free, the Star lunges again. Before he can strike, one of Tomi's teammates fires their rifle, killing him instantly.

Tomi shakes his head and turns to his team and says "Don't be a fool like him."

Ortis, Rose, and Hopper are in their royal room, each looking at their assigned tasks. Ortis leans back in his chair before speaking.

"My task is either to survive for thirty minutes within a range of 200 to 50 miles on a doom event during the next doom wave or to stay airborne for twenty-four hours," he says, rubbing his chin. "Hmm… The old me would've done these without a second thought, but now that we're with Gaia, there's no way I'm leaving her side!"

Rose lounges on the bed, casually glancing at her tasks. "Yours sound tough, but mine are way too easy. Either I run ten kilometers or eat over 4,000 calories in a day."

Ortis immediately gets up from his seat. "That's not fair! How come you get the easy ones?"

Hopper crosses his arms and sighs. "Don't get caught up in that. It's not a competition to see who has the easier task."

Rose smirks. "Maybe God is biased and has chosen me as his favorite, so he gave me the easiest task." She stretches before adding, "But like Hopper said, I won't do any of them. Gaia would probably be upset if I left too early."

Ortis scoffs. "Don't act like you're on the same level as Gaia!"

Rose playfully smiles. "Well, at least I was able to take over a warship. What about you?"

Ortis clenches his fists. "You little—" He moves to hit Rose, but Hopper quickly steps between them.

"Come on, you two. We don't have time to mess around. Gaia is going to need our help at any moment."

Ortis takes a deep breath, the anger in his eyes fading as he recalls his butler's death on the warship. He sits back down, visibly emotional.

Suddenly, a soft magical aura flows through the room, swirling like a gentle current. As it touches Hopper, his eyes momentarily glow.

"I've received Gaia's next order," Hopper announces. "We need to gather as many of Gaia's surviving pawns and any other Stars willing to help. She's going to need all of us for her inventions."

the trio then heads out of the room to begin their mission.

Meanwhile, Kayle is deep underground when she reaches a massive spiral staircase carved from stone. She glances up, takes a deep breath, and says,

"Time to test out these new powers."

A magical green bow materializes in her hand as a vibrant green aura surrounds her. Wind magic surges around her, lifting her quickly upward. Moments later, she bursts out of a tunnel, emerging back onto the surface of the ruined lands.

She checks her current task

"Join the Star tribe or destroy the Star tribe."

She then moves forward and notices a large number of Star players gathering stones. She quietly follows them and soon arrives at a massive temple. Many Stars are hard at work, constructing a stone wall around the structure.

Kayle observes the scene and mutters to herself,

"Oh, this must be the Star tribe. I do see some of my commoner Stars helping... I wonder if Tomi is also here."

As she approaches the busy workers, several Stars notice her presence. A few of them gasp and exclaim with excitement,

"Kayle Ross! It's her!"

Kayle steps forward and asks,

"Who is the leader of this new tribe?"

The Stars point toward the top of the temple. Without delay, Kayle ascends the long staircase. At the summit, a figure emerges from the temple, surrounded by guards. As Kayle approaches, she takes note of the leader's purple skin and the horns curling out from the sides of her head.

The leader steps forward and introduces herself.

"I am Vel Colos from planet Kairus. I've formed this tribe from the surviving Stars of this land. It's our best chance at surviving the next doom wave."

Unbeknownst to Kayle, a faint pink aura escapes Vel's mouth with every word she speaks.

Vel continues,

"I was informed that the Stars from your planet, Isha, highly recommended you. A few dozen other Stars also witnessed your fight underground with Lars Platinumgrey. They say you're truly strong. Join me, and we'll earn more points together and survive this first stage of the Star Games."

Vel extends her hand toward Kayle.

Kayle reaches forward but then freezes. A voice speaks in her mind—her own thoughts:

"This woman… the way she speaks is so charismatic. I wouldn't mind at all joining her— Wait a minute. This isn't who I am. How am I being swayed so easily? I'm not the type to open up to strangers. She must've done something like me… to earned some kind of power!"

Snapping out of it, Kayle smacks Vel's hand away. The guardians around Vel immediately raise their weapons.

Vel, unfazed, gestures for them to stand down. She claps slowly and says,

"I was so sure you were interesting at first, but you are indeed much more than interesting."

Kayle narrows her eyes.

"What did you do? How did you earn your powers?"

Vel turns her head slightly.

"Powers? Hmm… I wouldn't say that. It's more like a small bonus. Come, I'll show you."

She leads Kayle into the temple. They enter a grand throne room, the air thick with an ominous presence. Bloodstains streak across the floor, and above the throne rests an enormous skull—silent and foreboding.

Vel gestures toward the throne room and says,

"Welcome to Vel Temple. On the first day when we arrived, those who entered this throne room saw that skull. Magic words flowed from its eyes—it said the first Star to get 1,000 kills in this room would earn the title of King."

She steps closer to the throne, her voice steady with pride.

"It was rough, but I pulled through. I killed 1,000 Stars, and it granted me the title of King along with a small bonus— Luck + and Charisma ++."

She turns back to Kayle, her tone shifting slightly.

"Then today, I was given a new task: to form a Star tribe. But of course, I won't turn that task in. I figured this was the best way to survive."

Kayle crosses her arms, analyzing Vel carefully.

"I see now how you can easily sway the lower mortal-level Stars to follow you. But I'm sure higher-level mortal Stars could resist—if they use their brains enough to notice it. Still, not bad... Gathering this many Stars in one place, and this quickly? That's impressive."

Vel smiles, eyes gleaming with opportunity.

"The offer still stands. Join me, Kayle, and we'll make it to the end of the Star Games together."

Kayle turns toward the exit, her expression firm.

"That offer sounds tempting... but I have my own agendas. I still need to settle the score with Lars—and I need to find my people."

Without another word, she leaves the throne room.

Behind her, Vel bursts into laughter—not out of spite, but admiration.

"Impressive," she mutters to herself, watching Kayle disappear beyond the bloodstained doors.

Meanwhile, on the eastern island, Boa stands at the center of a grand hall, surrounded by the twenty master tribes. One by one, the tribe leaders rise to their feet as the yellow markings around Boa begin to glow brightly. A surge of energy courses through him as he summons his magical yellow sword.

Prekayda steps forward, her voice filled with awe.

"You've accessed the full power of the Chosen One! We will all serve you—our spirits are now connected!"

The twenty master tribes raise their fists in unity. Boa closes his eyes, focusing deeply. Suddenly, crackling lightning bursts from his body and his sword. Prekayda slams her staff into the ground, and yellow lightning surges throughout the room.

She raises her voice with power,

"Fulfill your destiny, and lead the Wakeen Tribe out of doom!"

The lightning strikes each tribe leader's fist, causing the yellow markings on their bodies to ignite with radiant magic. A bolt of lightning arcs to Prekayda's staff, illuminating her markings as well.

Boa's eyes widen. He gasps as he suddenly feels the souls of everyone in the room—understanding their thoughts, their emotions, and their knowledge more clearly than ever before. The lightning magic extends beyond the hall, surging through the entire village, linking everyone in a shared connection.

At the animal farm, Crank stands among a wide variety of animals. He turns as the magic touches each creature around him. As he reaches out to it, the lightning flows through his hand, and glowing yellow markings begin to form across his body.

Elsewhere, Jen laughs and chats with a group of villagers. They all fall silent as the lightning magic approaches. Jen walks to a window, spreading her arms open.

"I can feel it... it's you," she says softly.

"Once again, you're making it feel great to be alive!"

As the lightning touches each villager, their yellow markings around on their bodies glows too.

Back in the meeting hall, Boa suddenly lets out a scream as the overwhelming connection to every soul floods into him. In an instant, his spirit is pulled into the spirit realm. Around him, the spirits of Crank, Jen, villagers, and animals float gently, glowing in harmony.

Boa takes a deep breath, calming his mind. Surrounded by the pure essence of life, he opens his eyes—returning to reality. The magic slowly fades, but the connection remains.

The chamber erupts into celebration. The master tribes cheer and congratulate Boa, their voices echoing with joy.

Moments later, Boa walks through the village, eventually making his way to the animal farm. He spots Crank surrounded by animals—wolves, birds, deer, and more—calmly gathered around him as if they've always belonged there.

Boa chuckles softly and says,

"You're making new friends... just like Jen."

Crank looks up with a grin.

"You could say that. But from what I understand, the villagers told me I was the one who slain their alpha. So now they all respect me. And with your magic, I can understand them—as if we're speaking through our spirits."

Boa smiles, stepping closer as he looks around at the peaceful scene.

"The meaning of life... it's never been this much of an eye-opener for me. But now, I finally understand how precious it really is. We're going to save them all, Crank. And once I become God... I'll build a world far away from all of this suffering."

Crank's expression grows more thoughtful.

"By the way, have you noticed the tasks we've been given?"

Boa nods firmly.

"Yeah. We all hear God loud and clear. But these tasks... they mean nothing to us. We'll keep our honor intact. We'll do what we're destined to do."

The two stand in silent agreement, surrounded by animals, the glow of yellow markings still pulsing softly on their skin—a reminder of the bond they now share with everything around them.

Meanwhile, deep in the underground village, Nox stands at the center, surrounded by kneeling villagers. They bow their heads, hands pressed together in prayer. In response, Nox raises his hand as his magical shovel materializes beside on his hand in a flash of brown energy.

A surge of earth magic flows through the village. The brown markings on Nox's body begin to glow, pulsing with ancient power. He lifts his voice for all to hear.

"This is inspired from Planet Isha! Our best chance of survival lies in the skies! I... am your God in making!"

With a thunderous roar, Nox slams the shovel into the ground. His magic intensifies, transforming into a torrent of dirt energy. The ceiling of the underground village cracks open above them, and the very ground beneath begins to rise.

The village is lifted into the air—stone, earth, and all—forming a colossal sphere of dirt as it ascends toward the sky.

Across the ruined lands, the tremors are felt far and wide.

In the north, inside Vel Temple, Vel shouts to her people,

"Take cover!"

In the south, Lars emerges from a giant underground tunnel, followed by villagers marked with glowing purple. They stagger, feeling the deep tremors rumbling beneath their feet.

To the east, Kayle grabs onto a tree for balance, her eyes wide as the land quakes around her.

"What is going on?! There's no way... the second wave of doom is already here!"

But then, from the distant ocean, she sees something rise—a massive dirt sphere emerging from the depths, towering over the waters.

The shaking finally stops. Silence falls.

Kayle stares in awe as the top half of the sphere crumbles, revealing a village at its peak. At the edge of the floating landmass, Nox steps forward, his hair fluttering in the wind with his brown crown shining.

"This..." he declares with pride,

"is the difference between me and the other Chosens!"
