Chapter 13 - CHAPTER 2-3 : 'Checkmate'

"Talent hits a target no one else can hit; genius hits a target no one else can see." - Arthur Schopenhauer

-----

POV : Sora

Ah, honestly, that opening ceremony was pure torture... We managed to avoid it at our old school, and it was a smart move! What a waste of time. Seriously, it was painfully boring... And then, all those people around us!! Luckily, our training to handle situations like this paid off; otherwise, we would have been overwhelmed. But now, Blank has reached a new level, and we can handle all of this without breaking a sweat!

Finally, it was over, and as I yawned to shake off the lingering boredom, my thoughts were already drifting towards the fascinating challenges awaiting us in this place. Just then, I felt a gentle tug on my sleeve. It was Shiro, standing right next to me, snapping me out of my mild daze.

Shiro: It's over, Big Brother. We should leave now... I'm hungry, and we need snacks.

Shiro pulled me out of my thoughts with her usual neutral and innocent tone, her big eyes locking onto mine. Just then, my stomach decided to make it known that it was time to eat with a loud growl.

Ah, yeah, she's right. It's been a while since we've eaten anything, and I'm starting to get seriously hungry. I nodded with a smile, the kind of smile I've perfected, ready to leave this large hall and go devour something.

Sora: Yeah. We definitely need to fill our stomachs. And, honestly, with all that cash lying around... it'd be stupid not to make the most of it, right? After all, money's meant to be spent, especially by geniuses like us. So let's go, we've earned it!

After letting out an amused chuckle, I couldn't help but notice a slight hesitation in Shiro's eyes. She didn't say anything, but I knew that in that incredibly sharp mind of hers, thousands of calculations were already interweaving, weighing every option, every possible outcome. It's fascinating to watch her in action, completely absorbed in her thoughts. Then, breaking the silence, she finally responded. Her tone remained unchanged, calm and sharp, like a finely honed blade that leaves nothing to chance.

Shiro: Yes, but we still need to be careful, Big Brother... Don't forget we're living on one salary for two, and we don't know how much we'll have next month. She looked away slightly. Even if... for once, I wouldn't mind a good meal.

Sora: Shiro's last remark made me burst out laughing, and I couldn't resist ruffling her hair. Don't worry, Shiro, what else could we do with all that money? We've already got our consoles, so we're covered for the essentials. And hey, if we treat ourselves once in a while, what's the harm, right? Don't you feel like eating something other than our usual stuff? Just thinking about all those restaurant dishes is making my mouth water already! Honestly, I can almost feel myself drooling just thinking about it.

Shiro: Shiro enjoyed the hair ruffling and seemed to be thinking too, slightly salivating. Yes, you're right. Let's go, Big Brother. An occasional outing isn't going to burn through 100,000 yen, even for us. We'll just be careful with the rest, that's all.

With that, we set off, perfectly in sync as always. Just the two of us, finally enjoying a little quiet time in the midst of all this chaos. We headed towards the exit of this crowded hall, still packed with people. Seriously, there are people everywhere. Thankfully, we've worked hard to no longer be paralyzed by it, or we'd never survive a crowd like this...

But suddenly, I felt Shiro tug on my sleeve again. I turned to her, intrigued, and noticed she was staring at something... or rather someone. Naturally, my curiosity got the better of me, and I followed her gaze to see what had captured her attention. We both stopped just before exiting the hall, my eyes following the direction of her focus. What has she spotted this time?

Shiro: Big Brother, look, it's that girl from earlier... Furudo... Erika... I think...

Oh, so it was Erika after all. One of the few people in our class who managed to catch my attention, which is no small feat. She made quite a striking impression, the kind you don't come across often. The kind of person I could have fun with without getting bored, and just thinking about it brought a smile to my face. I could see that Shiro was also intrigued, almost fascinated. After all, it's not every day that we, Blank, encounter such interesting and entertaining individuals. It was only natural that we'd both be a little excited.

It seems Erika heard her name mentioned, as she turned towards us. And there, I saw her heading our way, wearing that same smile I had already noticed in class. That smile spoke volumes about her, and I have to admit, it amused me a lot. It was the kind of smile that hinted at a sharp and playful mind, a quality I particularly appreciate.

Erika: Oh, isn't it Sora-san and Shiro-san? What a surprise to see you again, even though our last meeting was so recent. I must admit, you're among the few people here who manage to spark even a slight interest. *Giggle* *giggle* *giggle*.

She said this with a slightly sarcastic tone, a hint of pride piercing through her voice, all while fixing us with that signature smile of hers, accompanied by a light, elegant chuckle. This kind of combination is clearly her style.

I couldn't help but smile back, amused by her attitude. A small laugh escaped me, followed by a knowing chuckle. I have to admit, she really entertains me. This little game of jabs and provocations... it's exactly what I enjoy.

Sora: Heh heh heh, I know exactly what you mean. In fact, it's the same for us, right, Shiro? I asked while ruffling my sister's hair, to which she only let out a small whimper and nodded to confirm. Blank rarely comes across people who are actually worth it, so consider yourself lucky to hear that from us. It's not every day we find someone interesting. I finished with an arrogant smile, letting out a small mocking laugh.

Erika: *Giggle* *giggle* *giggle*. Oh, really? What a compliment! I'm absolutely delighted to have caught the attention of "Blank." She pronounced the name with a tone dripping with irony, her smile still in place but clearly tinged with disdain. Well, here's to our next encounter, then. I'm looking forward to seeing what you have to offer. She exaggerated her smile, making it almost theatrical, as if openly mocking us, her sarcasm and arrogance evident.

Sora: I couldn't help but laugh along with her. Oh, same here, same here, I'm really looking forward to it... Gotta say, this school seems way more interesting than average, don't you think? It's definitely a cut above the typical high school, that's for sure. I have a feeling it's going to be really fun hanging out here. And being in this so-called Class S... if that ranking is really what they say it is, of course. I let a slight smirk stretch across my lips, deliberately emphasizing the words.

Erika: Well, who can really say for sure? We don't have any confirmation yet, do we? She smiled softly, her gaze sparkling with barely concealed mischief. These are just theories I've subtly planted here and there. But of course, I leave room for interpretation. After all, if my suspicions are correct, I'm certain that some of you, including you, Sora-san, will eventually reach the same conclusions. She finished with a calculating look, her smile still as enigmatic as ever.

It felt like she was sizing us up with that superior gaze, as if to make it clear that she had already figured everything out and we'd better play along if we hoped to grasp even a fraction of her theories. The implication was clear: in her eyes, we were far from being on her level.

And I have to say... this girl is getting more and more interesting, ah ha ha! She has something that reminds me of myself, though in a slightly different, perhaps more subtle, form. But whatever, I can already tell this is going to be an endless source of amusement at this school. I can't help but look forward to what lies ahead. This promises to be a truly fascinating game, and honestly, I can't wait to see how far it can go.

Sora: So, tell me, Erika, we're on free time to explore the campus, right? How about joining us? I'm sure we could have a lot of fun together. Plus, we can share the legendary exploits of Blank, and you can share yours... if you have any, of course. I grinned mockingly before turning to Shiro. What do you think, Shiro? She interests you too, doesn't she? I bet you're already imagining how fun this could be.

Shiro: As usual, without really reacting to my mocking tone, she slightly nodded. I agree... Let's eat together first, and then we can have fun.

I was already itching to see what we could do with her, to measure what she's really worth, even in the simplest games... Heh heh, I've already planned to test her with my famous rock-paper-scissors trick. Of course, she probably won't be as easy to fool as Stephanie, but the speed at which she makes her decision will give me a first glimpse of her potential, even if it's just a tiny sample. I also wonder how she would fare in chess... But let's be honest, heh heh, there's probably no world where she could hope to defeat Blank. That said, she might be a stimulating enough opponent to make things interesting.

As these thoughts swirled in my mind, Erika gave us a sly smile, tilting her head slightly before straightening up to finally respond.

Erika: Well, what an intriguing offer that I would certainly have considered with pleasure. Unfortunately, I must apologize, but it so happens that I'm slightly indisposed today. She smiled softly, her eyes betraying a subtle condescension. I have some small matters to attend to that require my full attention. Perhaps another time? She concluded with a polite smile, but one clearly tinged with indifference, implying that our meeting was not her priority.

Sora: Ah, I see, that's a real shame, truly. I thought we could have had a good time, the three of us, maybe had some fun together, but I get that you have other priorities... Unless our dear detective is a bit scared of our skills? Hmm, could it be that you're a little too proud without having the actual abilities to back it up? I chuckled lightly as I said this, with a hint of mockery in my voice, letting the humor linger.

Erika didn't seem fazed by this provocation, not for a second. On the contrary, it seemed to amuse her even more. Her smile, usually so elegant, took on a slightly more playful edge while maintaining a certain finesse. Her eyes narrowed in subtle mischief, revealing a more playful side.

I didn't expect it to have that effect on her, or on anyone, really. Heh heh heh, she's truly fascinating, isn't she? There's something about her that stands out, something that makes her even more intriguing.

Erika: Oh, but who wouldn't be impressed by the famous... what do you call yourselves again? Ah yes, "Blank," isn't it~? She let the name hang in the air, her smile widening with barely concealed malice. Alas, that's not really why I'm declining. She paused, her eyes gleaming with an almost cruel light as she continued in a soft, sarcastic voice. You see, there's a far more pressing matter that requires my attention, so I'll have to pass on this tempting offer. But rest assured, we'll certainly have other opportunities. You can be sure of that. *Giggle* *giggle* *giggle* *giggle* *giggle*. Her smile became narrower, more cutting, almost seductive in its false sincerity. Next time, I'll be truly delighted to join you. It would be such a shame to miss out on such a delightful opportunity to... have fun, don't you think?

Sora: I crossed my arms, my smile widening and my gaze sharpening as I observed Erika with growing interest. Oh, what a shame, really. Looks like we'll have to wait a little longer before we can really have some fun. I tilted my head slightly, a glint of amusement in my eyes. Blank, yes, that's right. The unbeatable, invincible duo. Two minds, one heart. And don't be mistaken, even when we're apart, we're just as unstoppable. I took a step forward, closing the distance between us without losing my relaxed demeanor. But I understand, pressing matters, priorities... It happens. Not everyone has the luxury of having fun whenever they please, right? I shrugged with calculated nonchalance, letting my gaze slide over her before returning to her face, my smile becoming sharper. But remember, next time, there won't be any excuses. When you play with Blank, it's all or nothing. My tone grew more serious, almost cutting, but still with that blend of humor and arrogance that defines me so well. So, take your time to handle your little affairs. We'll be waiting... eagerly. Because we both know, the real game only begins when all the players are in place. I stepped back, my smile widening into an amused grin, my eyes fixed on Erika with palpable anticipation. And trust me, next time, it's going to be really... fun, as you so aptly put it.

Erika: Erika couldn't help but chuckle more, her smug expression never leaving her face for a moment. Oh, believe me, Sora-san, I'm looking forward to it just as much as you are. She held my gaze for a moment longer, savoring the tension, before letting her usual smile return, tinged with that icy politeness that is so characteristic of her. Well then... it seems it's time for us to part ways for now. She tilted her head slightly, her tone still as sweet as honey. I wish you both a wonderful day, Sora-san, Shiro-san. See you very soon. Her smile widened a bit more, promising without a doubt that our next encounter would be anything but ordinary.

Heh heh heh, I know I'm repeating myself, but this time, we're really hitting the jackpot, it's set in stone. There's no doubt about it; the fun is guaranteed.

Erika, always with her natural elegance, gave us a small, graceful bow before turning on her heels. We watched her walk away, frozen in place like mannequins in a store window, captivated by the spectacle of her departure.

OST end.

Now we're finally alone, just Shiro and me, left to ourselves in this quiet little corner. I glance beside me and notice that Shiro is deep in thought, her gaze fixed somewhere in the distance. Then, slowly, her eyes turn toward me, as if searching for an answer to a question she hasn't even asked yet.

Shiro: She's... different. Hard to read, even for me. She often does the opposite of what you'd expect. Shiro tilted her head slightly, her expression remaining neutral. It's confusing... but interesting.

Sora: Oh, well, well, even you find her that interesting? It's not often someone piques our curiosity like this, is it? I crossed my arms with a smirk, thinking for a moment. She must really be special to leave you puzzled. It sharpens the senses, doesn't it? But honestly, if even you can't figure her out... then I must say, this is getting really interesting. I let out a light laugh, amused by the situation, while exchanging a knowing look with Shiro.

Shiro: Shiro nodded slightly while looking at me. She's easy to read, but it's as if she's doing it on purpose, as if she wants it to be too obvious. Yet, her reactions and way of thinking remain unpredictable. It's hard to know in advance what she'll do... Shiro paused, pondering. She could probably be a formidable opponent for us, Big Brother. A slight spark flashed in her eyes, as if this challenge had awakened something within her.

Sora: Seeing Shiro react this way, I couldn't help but let out a chuckle, impossible to hold back. Heh, no wonder you noticed her too, little sister... You probably picked up on her before I did, as usual. I looked at her with a smirk, a hint of pride in my voice. Yeah, she's definitely making things a lot more interesting, that's for sure. But you know what? I bet it's not just her... I have a feeling other people here will be worth our time too. I glanced around us, already imagining the future challenges. This place is really going to be fun, Shiro. We're going to have a blast. I concluded by ruffling Shiro's hair lightly, letting an arrogant smile form on my face.

With those words, as Shiro relaxed into it, seemingly even enjoying the moment, one of her eyes slowly closing in comfort, an unexpected sound suddenly broke the atmosphere. A loud growl emanated from my stomach, causing me to wince slightly in pain. Ah, that's right... I'd completely forgotten we needed to eat before indulging in our little distractions.

Sora: I patted my stomach, grimacing slightly. Well, how about we go eat now? I have to admit, I'm really starving... I almost forgot how hungry I was.

Without another word, Shiro nodded vigorously, leaving no doubt about her enthusiasm for my suggestion. It was the kind of idea that clearly appealed to her. Without wasting any time, we set off, choosing a path at random. After all, we needed to start getting our bearings in this place that was going to become our new playground. Knowing where the strategic points are is always an advantage. And of course, the surveillance cameras were everywhere, just as we'd noticed in class earlier. Nothing surprising, just something to keep in mind for later.

... ... ... ... ...

Shiro and I continued walking, a comfortable silence between us, until a figure caught my attention. Someone passed by us, not really paying any attention to our presence. She was small, walking with some difficulty using a cane. Her lilac hair, cut to shoulder length, and her violet eyes exuded a unique aura. A black beret adorned with a gray ribbon rested on her head, complemented by a pair of white stockings with garters. She might not stand out to some, but what really caught my attention was the confident smile she wore as she passed by us. There was something there, something intriguing.

I stopped in my tracks, instinctively. Naturally, Shiro, always in sync, stopped as well, probably wondering what had caught my attention, though her ultra-fast brain had likely already made the connection within seconds. I turned my head slightly to follow the mysterious stranger with my gaze as she walked away, her calm yet determined demeanor lingering in my mind. It could be nothing, or... it could be the start of something interesting.

As I watched her in silence, momentarily lost in my thoughts, the calm was suddenly shattered by Shiro's sharp voice. Her words cut through my reflections like a knife, instinctively making me turn my gaze toward her. Her remark, delivered with that relentless precision she's known for, left no room for doubt: she had just stated a truth I couldn't ignore.

Shiro: Lolicon.

Sora: Heh, you're quick to judge, Shiro. Am I not allowed to be interested in intriguing people? I threw a knowing look at my sister, a smirk tugging at the corner of my mouth. You must have sensed that aura she gives off too, right? That aura that screams she might be... fun, in the near future. I let my words linger in the air for a moment, my smile widening slightly. We both know that people like her make things a lot more interesting.

Shiro: Shiro gave a slight nod in response, her eyes locked onto mine. Yes, I felt it too.

Sora: See what I mean? And I won't deny it, she does catch the eye, that's for sure. Pretty cute, don't you think? Her small stature gives her a certain charm, and that captivating smile... Not to mention her modest chest—it adds an even more irresistible touch. I grinned mischievously, giving Shiro a playful wink.

Shiro: Shiro looked at me with an impassive expression, but her eyes held a glint of mischief. Just as I thought... you're a pervert and a lolicon, Big Brother.

Before I could even open my mouth to say anything or suggest we keep moving, a phrase caught our attention. It echoed in the air, slipping into our ears, and its intriguing nature immediately piqued our curiosity. The words, compelling in their simplicity, came from the room to our left. Without needing to consult each other, Shiro and I knew this was worth investigating.

???: Checkmate.

Several individuals inside instantly captured our attention, each for different reasons. Next to the woman who had uttered those words in a sharp, commanding tone stood two figures worthy of note.

The first was a tall man sporting electric blue sunglasses that looked like they cost a fortune. His well-groomed blond hair added to his polished appearance, but it was his expression that truly stood out: a hard, almost aggressive look, like an unyielding fortress. The hostility radiating from him was palpable, an aura that clearly warned against underestimating him.

On the other side, to the right of the woman, stood a young girl with a more surprising appearance. Her mid-length hair, a delicate pale green, was topped with a black headband, creating a striking contrast. She wore black stockings with her uniform and stood straight, almost rigid, like a maid or a governess. It was both captivating and slightly unsettling. Her expression was one of icy serenity, professional, as if nothing could disturb her.

As for the woman herself, the one who had calmly declared "checkmate" with a cutting voice, she was seated with calculated nonchalance. Her legs crossed, she appeared completely in control of the situation, exuding a superb coldness. Her chestnut, almost auburn hair cascaded down to her waist, while her dull violet eyes scrutinized her opponent with an almost cruel indifference. Her serious face left no doubt about her determination, a striking contrast to her opponent, a man who, on the verge of collapse, seemed ready to tear his hair out. Completely distraught, he had clearly been demolished in record time.

Well, it seems things are really getting interesting around here. I doubt we'll have a single moment to be bored in this place... Lunch can wait; there's no way we're letting a golden opportunity like this slip by. Blank never passes up such a "feast," right? A sly grin spread across my face at the thought. Without saying a word, I glanced at Shiro. Our eyes met, and without needing to speak, we nodded in perfect sync, instantly understanding each other.

Without hesitation, we headed toward the room in question, drawn like magnets to whatever was happening inside. As we got closer, it became clear that this room was actually the classroom of the infamous Class A... Heh heh heh, this was getting even more enticing.

Random Boy: He widened his eyes, his breath catching for a moment. What? But... No, that's impossible! Panic surged through him, his heart racing. The game had barely started! I mean, I had everything planned, everything calculated... This isn't normal... How could this happen? His hands trembled slightly as he replayed every move in his mind. Back in middle school, I was the best chess player; I couldn't have lost like this, it's... it's not possible. He shook his head, refusing to accept the reality. I refuse to believe it... Losing like this, so pathetically... It's just not possible...

Intriguing Girl: She sighed lightly, crossing her arms with an expression that was half-annoyed, half-amused. She fixed him with her usual calm yet piercing gaze before replying, her tone both direct and laced with sarcasm. You know, your real problem is your arrogance and pride. I never claimed to be stronger than you. Yet you kept boasting about being the best at your middle school, or something like that. She paused, looking at him with an almost analytical gaze, as if dissecting a scientific problem. And, to be clear, you were the one who initiated this. I didn't come begging for a chess match in hopes of scoring an easy victory or showing off in front of everyone. Much less to boost my popularity, especially with the girls. Am I wrong, Hidetoshi Suzuki, student of Class C? A sarcastic smile appeared on her lips as she tilted her head slightly, eyeing him with a hint of challenge. Now, I'd like to go eat. She paused, her tone growing colder. So, show some sense and leave before you embarrass yourself any further. It would be quite ironic if your quest for popularity turned into a fiasco right at the start of the school year, just because of your stubbornness. She raised an eyebrow, her gaze piercing through his façade. Get up with some dignity, accept your defeat without making a scene, and come back to me when you've had time to improve. For now, leave with what little dignity you have left. It would be a shame to ruin everything just because of misplaced pride. She turned slightly, her body language clearly indicating that the conversation was over and she was ready to move on, leaving Hidetoshi to draw his own conclusions.

Hidetoshi: He slammed the table with almost desperate force, abruptly standing up, his eyes wide with panic. No... No, this can't be happening! There has to be some mistake, this isn't fair... Please, give me another chance! I want a rematch, please!

From where we stood, just at the doorway, we watched the scene unfold intently, letting our eyes capture every detail before deciding to intervene. The situation before us was growing more intriguing by the second. The bodyguard-like figure standing next to the seated young woman made a move toward this Hidetoshi from Class C. With palpable menace, he approached him, placing a firm hand on his shoulder. The way he tightened his grip made Hidetoshi flinch, unable to hide the pain now visible on his face. The bodyguard, in a dry and threatening voice, began to speak, each word laced with cold intimidation that would make anyone back down.

Well, I didn't expect to witness a scene like this... Class C, huh? Not really surprising, actually. This Hidetoshi seems like an idiot for getting himself into this mess, but hey, it's pretty entertaining to watch. Around us, a silent crowd was also observing the scene, but it was clear that most were siding with the young woman and her allies. Probably all members of this Class A... You could clearly see the difference in status here. Heh heh heh, interesting.

Bodyguard: Man, didn't you get what she said? He glared at him, eyes narrowing with a hint of irritation. Don't you realize you're making a fool of yourself? He sighed, crossing his arms. She told you to leave, so do it before I make you, got it? His voice deepened, an unmistakable warning. You're out of her league, whether you like it or not, so accept reality. His fists tightened slightly, ready to intervene if necessary.

Maid: It would be wise not to overdo it, especially knowing that the surveillance cameras are watching us. Resorting to violence won't lead to anything productive. She spoke in a soft but authoritative voice, her gaze sliding over to Hidetoshi with measured coldness. After a brief pause, she continued, still with that controlled calm that defined her. As you've already been told, and as Miss Makise also pointed out, I urge you to leave with the dignity this situation calls for. Take the time to reflect on today's events and learn from them to improve in the future. That's how true progress is made.

After hearing those biting words and feeling the weight of hostile stares fixed on him, Hidetoshi completely lost his composure. Without uttering another word, he turned on his heels and dashed out of the room at full speed, nearly bumping into us in the process. Thankfully, Shiro and I stepped aside just in time. Reflexively, I turned my head for a moment to watch him disappear down the hallway, fleeing as if his life depended on it.

OST end.

Then, without wasting a second, I redirected my attention to the room where everything was still unfolding. Well, it seems that some truly interesting things are happening here...

Sora: Well, it looks like things are pretty lively around here; this is getting interesting. I glanced around, taking in the crowd. Lots of people, lots of movement... This is exactly the kind of situation that draws our attention, both mine and my sister's. I smiled slightly, raising a hand in greeting. Pardon our little intrusion, but the call of amusement was just too strong to resist. Hello, everyone.

Shiro and I then decided to make ourselves known, stepping forward a few paces toward where the game seemed to have taken place. Our movements were calculated, deliberate, as always. As we approached, our eyes fell on the seated girl, the one who had orchestrated this entire scene, surrounded by her two companions. Their postures, their aura, everything indicated they were a well-coordinated group, with her at the center, pulling the strings.

Shiro: Shiro gently tugged on my sleeve, her expression growing slightly more serious. Big Brother, everyone's looking at us now... Her voice was calm, but there was a hint of unease, as if the situation was making her slightly uncomfortable.

Sora: A slight unease crept over me as well, but I remained calm. No need to say it, I already noticed...

Shaking my head slightly to clear away any stray thoughts, I refocused on what was right in front of us. Memories of our training in dealing with crowds resurfaced, and a smile touched my lips. Even though we've learned to handle the pressure of being surrounded by countless stares, we're still not entirely used to facing such an audience. But that's okay, not a problem at all. We just need to stay focused, to keep our eyes on the goal ahead. Nothing else matters.

I then squeezed Shiro's hand, a gentle but reassuring pressure, just to remind her that we're still in sync, that we're handling this together.

And that's when the maid-like woman, the one calmly standing next to the seated girl, spoke first, breaking the silence that hung over the room and drawing our full attention.

Maid: I beg your pardon, but may I ask for your names and where you come from?

At those words, my gaze locked onto her, a quiet intensity in my eyes as my usual smile spread across my face.

Sora: Oh, my apologies, it seems my manners slipped away. I said with a mischievous smile, a glint of amusement in my eyes. Nice to meet you, I'm Sora, and this is my little sister Shiro. Together, we're the duo Blank—the name speaks for itself. We always leave a void behind when we're done playing. Simple and effective. I paused, glancing at Shiro with a knowing look before continuing. And in case you're curious, we're from Class S. Not that it changes much... but it gives a little preview of what to expect if you dare to play with us. I finished with an arrogant smile, letting an unspoken challenge hang in the air.

Shiro: Shiro raised her hand slightly, her expression remaining neutral. Hello...

That was a solid introduction, wasn't it? I could see the crowd beginning to murmur, probably intrigued by our appearance. Maybe some of them already know the name Blank, heh heh heh. It wouldn't surprise me, after all. We're pretty famous in the gaming world, a living paradox: well-known and yet mysterious. Ironic, isn't it?

My attention then shifted to the bodyguard-like man standing near that intriguing girl. He was the next to speak, and it wasn't hard to tell that he was a bit more irritated, almost angry.

Bodyguard: He raised an eyebrow, clearly intrigued. Class S? And what brings you here, exactly? He crossed his arms, his gaze hardening slightly. I hope for your sake you're not here looking for trouble, because that wouldn't end well for you.

Intriguing Girl: Before he could do anything else, Kurisu cut him off in a sharp tone, her eyes narrowing in annoyance. Rude! She fixed him with a cold stare, not giving him time to react. They approached out of curiosity, introduced themselves properly, and explained why they're here. You, on the other hand, didn't even bother to introduce yourself before asking questions. Kurisu raised an eyebrow, her piercing gaze leaving no room for argument. So, before we go any further, the least you could do is introduce yourself, don't you think?

Bodyguard: He scratched his head, a bit embarrassed. Oh, uh, yeah, I see... sorry about that. His voice carried a hint of awkwardness as he avoided making eye contact with anyone else.

Kirumi: Oh, please forgive his rudeness. He simply wanted to ensure that you weren't, shall we say, as disruptive as that other individual we encountered earlier. She gave a graceful, controlled smile before continuing with her characteristic politeness. In any case, the pleasure is mutual. I'm Kirumi Tôjô, and as you've guessed, we represent Class A.

Shizuo: Shizuo nodded with a slight sigh. Yeah, yeah, my apologies. He relaxed his shoulders a bit. You seem like decent people, so it's all good... He extended his hand almost reflexively. Shizuo Heiwajima, nice to meet you too.

I didn't quite expect him to step forward and offer a handshake, but I accepted it gladly, keeping my smile intact. After a quick handshake, he returned to the side of the seated girl, whose name was still unknown to us. She was the one who piqued my curiosity the most. I saw her smile at Shizuo before turning her gaze toward us, her attention focused and deliberate.

This girl had something fascinating about her... Her smile seemed sincere, but there was also an undeniable coldness and seriousness in her demeanor. She clearly has the soul of a leader, doesn't she? No wonder she already has two companions by her side, ready to follow her commands without hesitation. Heh heh heh, this is getting really interesting.

Kurisu: Hello to you as well. I'm Kurisu Makise, but you can just call me Kurisu, I don't mind. She cast a quick, slightly exasperated glance at Shizuo before continuing, a faintly ironic smile on her lips: And don't worry about Shizuo. He's got a good heart, even if he needs to be put in his place every now and then. She shrugged, as if it was a task she was already accustomed to, before returning to a more composed demeanor.

Kurisu Makise, huh? That name... it rings a bell, but I can't quite put my finger on it. Interesting, really. And those other two? Just lackeys, huh? But they're in the same class, right? That's pretty strange... Unless Class A has its own internal hierarchy? That would be quite amusing, actually. A sort of microcosm of power in an already privileged space. Heh, this promises to be fascinating to observe.

Sora: Heh heh, I see, no worries. Nice to meet you! I say with a playful smile, my gaze settling on the chessboard. Honestly, it's mostly this beautiful board that drew us here. You can guess from our introduction; we're gamers at heart, and when we see a chessboard, we can't resist its call. I let my fingers brush over a piece with interest before looking up. So, I was wondering... would you be up for a little game with us? I smile, adding a hint of challenge to my voice.

Kurisu: Kurisu raised an eyebrow, a mix of curiosity and challenge in her gaze before replying in a slightly sarcastic tone. Oh, I see. You want to play a game, is that it? She crossed her arms, a slight smirk forming on her lips, waiting to see how far this proposal would go.

Oh, she seems really intrigued. That's perfect, but not so surprising. I know how to recognize a worthy opponent, and it's clear that no self-respecting player would shy away from a challenge of this magnitude.

Kirumi: I completely understand. Normally, Miss Makise would certainly appreciate taking on this kind of challenge, as it aligns perfectly with her tastes. However, I must apologize, as she had planned to have her meal afterward. Kirumi bowed slightly in respect before continuing with impeccable politeness. Perhaps you could come back a bit later or repeat your request at another time?

Sora: Oh, I see, what a shame. I say, shrugging slightly with a sly smile. We were also planning to head somewhere to eat, but I thought a quick game before the meal wouldn't hurt. After all, nothing like a little mental exercise to work up an appetite. I paused, fixing my gaze on the person in front of me with a mix of interest and challenge. And besides, you seem like a really interesting opponent. It would be a shame to miss such an opportunity, don't you think?

Shizuo: Shizuo squints, clear irritation visible on his face. Are you deaf or what? He steps forward, his voice growing more menacing. Didn't you get what we just told you?

Well, it looks like we've got a stubborn one among us. Luckily, the dog's owner is here to keep him on a leash. I really don't feel like getting rabies from an unexpected bite.

I can't help but chuckle softly, amused by the situation.

Sora: Oh, no worries, I won't push any further, I promise! I raised my hands in surrender, an innocent smile on my face. I was just responding, nothing more, nothing less. I gave a playful wink, adding a touch of lightness to my words.

As I expected, before the dog could even bite, his mistress retracted the leash with a voice as sharp as a whip.

Kurisu: Kurisu shot a piercing look at Shizuo, her tone firm and slightly annoyed. Shizuo, that's enough. She straightened up, crossing her arms with a controlled calm. It's up to me to decide how to respond, not you. There's no need to react so impulsively. Her gaze lingered on him for a moment longer, ensuring he got the message, before she turned her attention back to the situation with a more composed attitude.

Shizuo: Shizuo scratched the back of his head, a bit embarrassed. Uh, yeah, sorry. He looked away slightly. I'll try to be more careful in the future...

Kurisu: Kurisu let out a light sigh, casting an exasperated glance at Shizuo before turning to me, her tone returning to calm and composed, but with a hint of irony. Sorry about him, looks like I'll have to give him a little talk after all this. She paused, studying me with an analytical gaze, then smiled slightly. Sora, right? You intrigue me, I must admit. There's something different about you. She crossed her arms, her expression becoming more relaxed but still attentive. Well, I suppose a quick game before lunch wouldn't hurt. Personally, I have no objections. She added with a touch of sarcasm, a smirk on her face. And besides, you seem much more respectful than the other guy. That's enough to make me curious too.

Heh heh heh, just as I suspected, she couldn't resist a little entertainment either, could she? She accepted with that same spark of interest I detected. Well, things are picking up speed, and at this rate, the new school year is going to be an absolute blast. If the beginning is this captivating, then I can't wait to see what the future holds. Blank is far from done making a name for itself, and believe me, our name will echo throughout the school.

Sora: Oh, really? That's great then! I exclaimed with a broad smile, my eyes sparkling with enthusiasm. I'm really glad, you have no idea how much! I let out a small laugh, clearly delighted by the turn of events.

Kurisu: Kurisu smiled slightly. No problem, really. She paused, thinking for a moment before continuing with a hint of satisfaction in her voice. I'm rather pleased that my last game before lunch won't end on a disappointing note. This battle promises to be much more interesting.

Kirumi: Very well, in that case, don't stay standing. Please, take a seat across from us. Kirumi approached the table with natural elegance, carefully rearranging the pieces. I'll organize everything for you.

Without missing a beat, I approached again with Shiro by my side. She prefers to observe rather than get involved in lively conversations, which I completely understand. We're introverts, after all. I took my place opposite my opponent with calculated nonchalance, my mischievous smile still firmly in place. Shiro, meanwhile, found refuge on my lap, like a quiet shadow waiting for the right moment to intervene. The game is about to begin, and I'm ready to face it with calm determination and growing anticipation.

Sora: Oh, and the challenged player gets to play white, huh? I see, makes sense. I smiled slightly, a bit amused. No coin toss, then? We're diving right in? I let my words hang with a hint of mischief in my voice.

Kirumi: No, you said it yourself: it's the challenged player who takes the white pieces.

Sora: Very well, that works for me! I replied with a confident smile, a glint of determination in my eyes.

After carefully setting all the pieces back in place with meticulous precision, Kirumi straightened up and repositioned herself with a touch of ceremony, standing discreetly beside Kurisu. It was as if she was adopting the role of a silent accomplice, adding a touch of sophistication to the scene.

Kirumi: The pieces are now in place.

Kurisu: Kurisu gave a slight nod of acknowledgment before responding, her tone calm and direct. Thank you, Kirumi. She then turned to us, a spark of interest in her eyes. So, are you ready? She paused, observing with a slight smile. Ah, I see. You're both going to play, is that right? Her gaze became a bit more serious, but with a hint of curiosity, ready to see how things would unfold.

Ah, that's right, usually we're an inseparable duo, a formidable team. But for now, Shiro is a bit withdrawn, clearly more interested in her hunger than the competition. And before we dive in together, it's crucial to demonstrate that even individually, Blank remains a force to be reckoned with. We wouldn't want any criticism to arise based on our usual collaboration. Better to take things one step at a time and show what we're really capable of.

Sora: Oh, well, Blank is a duo: one mind, two bodies. We're brother and sister, but we function as a single entity, a well-oiled machine. I smiled with a hint of pride, my eyes sparkling with mischief. But this time, I'll be playing solo, while Shiro just sits on my lap and watches. I gave a knowing wink, the smile still on my face. But don't get it wrong, even separately, we're still formidable. It's just another way to show that we're unstoppable, even when we're only half-playing.

Kurisu: Kurisu raised an eyebrow, a mix of curiosity and slight perplexity in her gaze. Her tone, both direct and slightly skeptical, betrayed her questioning. Oh, okay, I see... That's pretty curious, I must say. She took a moment to observe, her expression becoming more analytical. But... she looks quite young and rather small. She's not a child, is she? Kurisu left her question hanging, waiting for clarification, while keeping her tone calm but with a hint of visible doubt.

Sora: Oh, it's a bit more complex than that, actually. I said with an amused smile, a glint of mischief in my eyes. She is indeed young, as you can see, but we were invited to this school as a single entity, in other words, my sister and I are considered as one student. I let out a light laugh, shaking my head with a touch of pride. It's much better that way; we can't stand being separated. That's Blank: one mind in two distinct bodies. But don't be fooled by her age. My sister is truly formidable, believe me. Underestimating her skills would be a grave mistake. I winked conspiratorially, the smile still present, revealing unwavering confidence in Shiro's abilities.

Ah, I see it's piquing curiosity! The whispers from the onlookers say it all; everyone's clearly wondering how we function. When I got that letter, I have to admit, even I was a bit surprised. Blank hasn't cracked the mystery yet, and we don't really understand why we were allowed to form a single student between us. If we ourselves can't explain this choice, then it's still a real puzzle.

I doubt this school is so lenient as to let us stay together just because we perform better as a duo. If we were separated, we wouldn't give our best. But hey, this mystery will eventually be revealed at some point. In the meantime, I find it spices up our adventure here.

And I can't help but notice that Kurisu seems particularly intrigued by this situation. Her analytical mind is clearly working at full speed, and it amuses me to see how absorbed she is by this challenge.

Kirumi: I understand, that's rather intriguing...

Shizuo: Shizuo shakes his head, looking lost. Really? He lets out a frustrated sigh. I don't get it at all, seriously...

Kurisu: Kurisu slightly raised her eyebrows, her expression showing both interest and a hint of amusement. I see... That's pretty intriguing, I must admit indeed. A slight smile appeared on her lips, tinged with irony. I think I get the gist of it. This school, as a whole, is really full of surprises. She shook her head gently, as if she found it both fascinating and a bit absurd, but couldn't help being intrigued by what she had just learned.

This made me smile, amused by the situation. Ah, as I thought, this school is full of mysteries and surprises. It's not the kind of place to offer boring revelations, is it? Heh heh heh. On the contrary, every new discovery seems to promise more challenges and adventures. After all, a bit of intrigue never hurts.

Sora: So, tell me, shall we start? I said with a mischievous smile, my eyes gleaming with excitement. I'm really curious to see what you've got. I leaned forward slightly, my fingers brushing over the pieces on the board. Come on, don't keep me waiting. The real game starts now.

Kurisu: Oh yes, sorry, I got a bit distracted there. She paused, her gaze becoming more resolute. With pleasure, let's begin then, and... She adjusted her posture, ready to fully concentrate on the task at hand, showing her commitment and enthusiasm.

OST end.

She opened the hostilities with a fluid grace, starting the clock with a precise movement, like a ballerina beginning her first pirouette. Right from the start, with the white pieces, she seemed to want to surprise me, test my abilities. Heh heh, interesting. I'll gladly accept the challenge.

She chose to initiate the game with a classic Ruy Lopez, the Spanish Opening, both the most orthodox and the most common. Ah, that smile she gave me, as if inviting me to a friendly match. But make no mistake, this isn't just a game. It's a declaration, a duel where every move is crucial, where every decision could be decisive. I fix my gaze on her, a confident smile spreading across my lips. Yes, it's my turn.

Kurisu: ... Good luck!

I then saw her give me a much more pronounced smile than before. Her eyes were closed, but her smile spoke volumes, an almost provocative expression, as if she was announcing that she was eagerly awaiting this duel. Heh heh, no worries, I feel the same anticipation.

I gave her a defiant smile in return, the very one that signaled the real game was about to begin. As I adjusted Shiro comfortably on my lap, I started the stopwatch with calculated precision, ready to dive into this captivating battle of minds. With a bold e6, I opened the lines, initiating the game with the French Defense, not to barricade myself but to set up a masterful counterattack. Every piece, every move would be orchestrated with care, a strategic symphony where each note would lead to victory. She might think she has me figured out, but it's just the beginning of the game, and I'm here to triumph.

She reacted with the speed of a predator, restarting the stopwatch with a precision that seemed almost choreographed. Ah, she advances her pawn from d2 to d4, seizing the center of the board with an audacity bordering on presumption. How bold! But it's so predictable. Taking the center is the basics of chess, after all. She'll soon understand that even the most traditional moves can meet the ingenuity of Sora.

My turn. I could almost feel the excitement vibrating through the thread of time as it ticked away. Without letting silence settle in, I activated my stopwatch. With unwavering confidence, my pawn from d7 moved to d5, engaging in direct confrontation. Our pawns faced each other, ready to start a millennia-old dance where each move would be a strategic step towards victory.

Kurisu: The game has only just begun, but I can already tell it will be, without a doubt, a memorable match. She gave a slight smile, a mix of challenge and calm in her gaze. Well, may the best player win then.

Sora: A sly smile appeared on my face. Oh, but I completely agree. I can't wait to see how this match will turn out, believe me. And above all, I'm excited to show you the full extent of Blank's skills and why we are invincible.

She wasted no time, starting the stopwatch with calculated ease, betraying meticulous preparation and a strategy already firmly set in her mind. Ah, it's entertaining, isn't it? To see if she can really keep up with the effervescent pace of my thought and tactics. Yes, this duel promises to be captivating. She moves her pawn from e2 to e4, opting for the advance variation against my French Defense. Very interesting. She aims to claim the center, to impose her tempo, but I'm not the type to be intimidated.

As soon as her stopwatch stopped, it restarted immediately, marking the beginning of our intellectual joust. Without hesitation, I moved my pawn from c7 to c5, challenging her bold pawn on d4. The game is accelerating. Her moves are precise, each piece taking part in an increasingly complex strategic dance. The stopwatches are almost superfluous given our speed and intensity. We don't need these tick-tocks to gauge our passion.

Without missing a beat, I advance my knight from b8 to c6, diving into the subtleties of the French Defense. Pieces move, minds clash, and my smile grows wider, wilder, revealing the burning excitement within me. When have I had the chance to face such a formidable opponent? Kurisu, with her icy calm, offers a perfect contrast to my effervescent enthusiasm. The audience, captivated, witnesses the spectacular clash of two brilliant minds.

Before I could truly savor the moment, she continues her play. Her knight moves from g1 to f3, a clever maneuver that strengthens her central positions. Every move is a note in this strategic symphony. Her smile, calm and serene, only spurs me to show the full extent of my genius. In this arena of intelligence, I am ready to prove that I am her equal, if not more. Ah, what a duel, my friends, what a spectacle! The real game, the real challenge is just beginning.

Kurisu: I see you weren't lying about your talent. Just with these few exchanges, it's clear you're going to be a formidable opponent. Kurisu crossed her arms, her expression serious yet slightly amused. This is going to be interesting.

Sora: But who are you telling, my dear? You're literally reading my thoughts... No opponent has managed to compete with me or my sister for quite some time. So, you can surely understand that feeling, can't you?

The game doesn't lose a second, and there goes my queen, sliding from d8 to b6, launching a Paulsen attack in response to her last move. My stopwatch halts abruptly as soon as my queen reaches her new position, while I scan the board with an almost palpable intensity. My smile? It broadens significantly, reflecting the intensification of our confrontation. The game is becoming more and more electric, and I'm absorbing every possibility with a thirst for anticipation.

There she goes activating her game with a bishop leaping from f1 to e2, adding a new touch to her Paulsen opening. She lines up her pieces with calculated precision, probably preparing for castling. Fascinating, truly.

Barely has her stopwatch stopped when mine resumes with renewed vigor. Our hands move in a choreography where the tick-tock of the stopwatches seems almost superfluous. So, I plunge in with the flamboyance that defines me, making the first capture of this duel with a typically Sora boldness: my black pawn on c5 proudly devours her pawn on d4. The game intensifies, and my smile widens, revealing the thrilling excitement that overwhelms me.

Kurisu: First capture of the game, then? I see, it looks like I'll need to be particularly attentive. She crossed her arms with a thoughtful expression. This will be an interesting challenge, I'm sure.

Sora: You're talking about just a pawn on the board, and the game has only just begun. I smile provocatively, eyes sparkling with challenge. These grand speeches don't fool anyone. Why not show me what you really have in mind, huh? I'm eager to see how you plan to handle things now. I let out a light laugh, savoring the anticipation of the game to come.

She wastes no time. Her white pawn moves from c3 to d4, capturing my pawn on c5 with ease. With this maneuver, she strengthens her center and ensures some dominance. How bold!

A satisfied smile spreads across my lips as I let out a quiet laugh. Each move, each exchange, fuels the excitement that is building within me. I reactivate my stopwatch with a fluid gesture, seeing it stop almost immediately, as my black bishop moves from f8 to g7. Perhaps I'm giving her a slight advantage for now, but that's just one aspect of the game.

Her face lights up with a flicker of surprise before her smile becomes more pronounced. She seems to grasp the depth of our confrontation, and I respond with a confident smile, aware that the real game has just begun. Shiro, by my side, glances with curiosity. My confidence reassures her, and she turns her attention back to the board, ready for what comes next.

Kurisu, with unyielding concentration, moves her king to g1 for castling, consolidating her position with her pawns on f2, g2, and h2, while preparing her rook on f1 for the next move. Ah, the precision in her movements is remarkable!

It's now my turn. My knight on g8 moves to h6, a move that might seem enigmatic but is, in reality, an invitation to delve deeper into the strategy. I see the spectators in the room, intrigued, their gazes trying to decipher this move. Shiro watches, her eyes reflecting a glimmer of curiosity. Is she able to grasp the intention behind this move?

Kurisu seems to absorb every detail, a spark of intuition in her eyes. She analyzes, anticipates, and perhaps she's starting to understand the subtleties of my strategy. Fascinating. I let out a light laugh, charged with underlying challenges. What will her response be? The game is heating up, and I'm ready for each new surprise.

Kurisu then takes the initiative with a bold move, her bishop moving from c1 to h6. This move seems to disrupt my plans, forcing my pawns to double and opening gaps in my defense. Her mastery of the game is undeniable. The real strategies are starting to unfold, and I'm eager to see how she plans to continue this battle.

Our eyes meet, a silent but clear exchange. I offer her a smile of approval for her skill, and she responds with a mark of respect. The game, rich in intensity, continues to unfold.

Sora: What an incredible move! Honestly, I'm impressed; that's some beautiful play! I declared with a dazzled smile, my eyes sparkling with admiration. Even knowing you were capable of it, I didn't expect such precision. It's played so well that it almost gives me chills. I let out a little laugh, my gaze shining with excitement. You know, it makes the game even more fun. Keep it up, this is bound to be memorable!

Shizuo: Shizuo shrugged with a smirk. Ah, I'm not even surprised, given who we're dealing with. He glanced around with an air of understanding. Honestly, it's not surprising. I don't get much of it, but you have to admit, it's solid. He fixed me with a determined glint in his eyes. Hang on tight, "Sora," because with our genius, you're in for a rough ride.

Kurumi: Indeed, it is hardly surprising that Miss Makise stands out in this way. Kirumi let out a subtle smile, imbued with sophistication. She possesses all the qualities necessary to assume the role of leader with remarkable efficiency. Although this may cause friction with the Sakayanagi and Katsuragi factions, I am committed to offering her my unwavering support. After all, it is my personal duty to ensure that her ambitions are realized successfully, as they should be.

Kurisu: I've already told you not to overdo it, Kirumi. Enjoy your school year too, okay? She offered a sincere smile, revealing an underlying note of gratitude. I must admit that I am grateful you are staying by my side. She then turned to me, her expression becoming more penetrating, with a slight smirk. As for you, I bet you're not that impressed deep down. Liar.

Even to the novices, Kurisu's move does not go unnoticed; a form of tacit recognition spreads in the room. Shizuo, not exactly a chess expert, still seems to grasp the essence of the duel, proving his acuity in other areas. And then there's Kirumi, with her sharp gaze and hint of mischief—has she already perceived my intentions? She seems intriguingly fascinating.

Shiro, my precious sister, resting on my lap, gives me a look that I could describe as knowing. She sighs softly before diving back into the game. Her understanding of the moves is both perceptive and refined—that's Shiro, after all. Her insight always exceeds expectations, and it's part of what makes her invaluable.

With a smile tinged with slight irony, I take command of the time, determined to capitalize on every opportunity. Naturally, one move stands out: my pawn on g7 advances to h6, capturing her bold bishop.

Kurisu, staying true to her rhythm, immediately restarts her stopwatch. Her knight moves from b1 to c3, a strategic move that strengthens her position while preparing the ground for her next actions.

Now it's my turn again. The tempo of the game doesn't slow down. I advance my bishop from c8 to d7, a thoughtful move that fits perfectly into the ongoing play. My gaze remains fixed on the board, eager to see Kurisu's next response.

Sora: This match is really captivating, don't you think? I said with a proud smile, my eyes sparkling with excitement. I might be repeating myself, but it's rare to come across opponents who can rival Blank. It makes things so much more interesting. I exchanged a knowing glance with Shiro before turning back to my opponent, a hint of arrogance in my voice. So, keep it up. We love being challenged, and this match is turning into a real masterpiece.

Kurisu: Arrogant, huh? I like that attitude. She raised an eyebrow with a challenging air, her tone both calm and incisive. I wouldn't have phrased it better myself.

With a delicate smile on her lips, Kurisu continues the game with almost elegant fluidity, her stopwatch stopping just after moving her white rook from a1 to b1. It's a clever support move to protect her pawn on b2, now under threat from my black queen.

Now it's my turn. Without losing a moment, I castle, moving my king to a safe haven on g8, flanked by my faithful pawns on f7 and h7. My rooks on a8 and f8 come together, consolidating my position and preparing for the next maneuvers.

The game deepens, revealing its most subtle aspects. My impatience to see her next moves grows, mixed with respect for her ingenuity. Kurisu, with her unique style and strategic intelligence, fascinates me. It seems a tacit respect is developing between us. I'm curious to see how she will react. The tension is palpable, and I savor it fully.

Kurisu resumes the game with precision, her pawn moving from b2 to b4 in a bold attempt at reorganization. I immediately seize the opportunity: my black bishop dives from e7 to b4, capturing the offered pawn.

Shiro, still on my lap, emits a discreet sigh, as if highlighting the complexity of the situation. Kirumi, nearby, lets out a light laugh, reflecting a clear understanding of the game. Kurisu, with her softly smiling demeanor, seems to acknowledge the finesse of my strategy, perhaps even a subtle move behind the move.

Certainly, more conventional moves could have been used to exploit this weakness. But the art of chess also lies in unpredictability, in the ability to surprise. Kurisu demonstrates her mastery with each move, and her next move confirms her skill. She moves her pawn from a2 to a3, targeting my bishop on b4 with formidable precision.

The sophistication of her maneuvers is on par with her aspirations, a real challenge for me. This is the kind of competition that excites, that pushes one to surpass oneself. This confrontation, with its origins in Class A, promises to leave a lasting mark, highlighting both our ingenuity and our passion for the game.

Kirumi: Another remarkable move, Miss. Kirumi expressed her admiration with refined delicacy. It is truly impressive. You demonstrate exceptional mastery, which only adds to your natural elegance.

Kurisu: Come on, stop calling me 'Miss,' okay? She let out a light laugh, her eyes sparkling with amusement. It's starting to get a bit ridiculous.

Shizuo: Shizuo scratched his head slightly, looking perplexed. I don't know, but if you say so, it must be. He gave a slight smile. So, well played, Kuri'.

Ah, the game is truly intensifying. With almost instinctive precision, my bishop on b4 captures the knight on c3, a bold move that seems perfectly aligned with the game's dynamics.

Kurisu, still relentless, responds with formidable precision. Her rook on b1 moves to capture my queen on b6. Impressive! She adjusts her plans with remarkable insight, and I can't help but smile, both amused and respectful of her skill.

My response is immediate. My pawn on a7 advances to capture her rook on b6, an exchange that highlights the depth of our confrontation. The intensity escalates, each move adding a new layer to our duel.

Shiro, perched on my lap, follows every move with attentive concentration. Her gaze, as penetrating as ever, captures the nuances of the game, and I see in her eyes a growing curiosity about the rivalry unfolding before us. The spectators, meanwhile, are riveted to the board, fascinated by this captivating spectacle.

Kurisu takes the initiative with a masterful move: her bishop moves from e2 to d3, establishing itself on an open diagonal and extending its control over the board. A mocking smile escapes me as I prepare to respond. Without delay, I advance my rook from a8 to a3 to capture the isolated pawn on a3, a bold but risky gesture.

Shiro remains silent, her attention fully absorbed by Kurisu. The spectators feel the rising excitement as our exchanges become more incisive. Kurisu, with a penetrating gaze and subtle smile, seems to recognize the complexity of each move.

Her next move is a true masterpiece: she repositions her queen to c1 to set up a clever fork, simultaneously threatening my rook on a3 and my pawn on h6. It's a move that reveals the depth of her strategy, exploiting every opportunity with remarkable finesse.

I waste no time in countering. My bishop on c3 moves to b4, not only to protect my rook but also to challenge her bishop on d3. This is a crucial moment, and I'm eager to see how Kurisu will respond to this new challenge.

Our exchanges go beyond words, communicating through looks and gestures that speak volumes. Kurisu, in a fluid and determined movement, shifts her queen from c1 to h1. The move echoes like thunder, threatening checkmate while capturing valuable material along the way.

Her move is a pure demonstration of strategic genius, a play that could leave more than one player stunned by its depth and audacity. Kurisu, you are an exceptional opponent, and every moment of this game is a true pleasure. These high school years promise to be thrilling, full of challenges and discoveries, and Blank could not wish for a better playing field.

I give her a broad smile, reflecting the admiration and respect I feel for her. Her graceful and confident smile in return confirms that this encounter is the beginning of something memorable. What a formidable opponent! This duel promises to be unforgettable.

Sora: Ah, I have to admit, that's an impressive move! Even I didn't see that coming. I smiled nonchalantly, my eyes sparkling with admiration. Seriously, I promise, you caught me off guard. That makes the game even more interesting. Keep it up, and we might just have a memorable match.

Shiro: Shiro stared intensely at the chessboard, then slowly turned her gaze toward Kurisu. You're a formidable opponent... That move is impressive. She paused slightly, her eyes gleaming with a hint of challenge. Next time, I want to face you myself.

Kirumi: The compliments directed at Miss Kurisu brought a subtle, refined smile to Kirumi's lips. She maintained a gaze filled with respect and evaluation. You are undoubtedly formidable opponents for her, and it's clear that she deeply appreciates this competition. You also deserve my praise for your sportsmanship and exemplary fair play, qualities that further elevate the level of this encounter.

Shizuo: Shizuo scratched his head again, looking perplexed. Yeah, yeah... Honestly, I won't lie, I don't get much of this. I'm a bit lost here.

Kirumi: In summary, she seems to be preparing to announce a checkmate. Kirumi, with her usual calm, observed the situation with meticulous attention.

Shiro: In summary, that's correct. She has the advantage and is threatening checkmate against Big Brother. Her voice remained calm, but there was an underlying tension.

Sora: Heh heh, yeah, it looks like I'm in a bit of a tight spot. I said with an amused smile, a glint of challenge in my eyes.

Shizuo: Shizuo nodded, looking satisfied. Ah, okay, I get it now. He adjusted his glasses with a smile. Not so surprising, after all. He glanced at the others with a look of approval. At least you acknowledge Kiru's talent. That's pretty admirable.

Kurisu: Kurisu studied the chessboard with an analytical gaze, an amused smile playing on her lips as she spoke with a mix of serenity and sarcasm. Come on, that's a fairly classic move at this stage of the game, isn't it? And Sora, try not to overdo it with your tricks. I know very well that you saw that move coming. She looked at me with a hint of challenge in her eyes. Turning to Shiro, her expression softened into genuine curiosity. Anyway, Shiro, it would be my pleasure. And why not consider a full game with your duo next time? She added with a smile, her tone becoming a bit more enthusiastic. I'm curious to see what you could do as a team.

The game then took on an even more intense turn, with Kurisu and me pushing our duel to new heights. This is my moment, the time to dive deeper into strategy, to show Kurisu, this exceptional rival, the full extent of what Blank can do. She's undoubtedly the only one who has managed to hold her ground so brilliantly, promising breathtaking future clashes, far from the so-called geniuses we've swept aside effortlessly in the past. Ah, what a thrill!

The pace intensifies, our moves on the board executed with surgical precision, our hands flying over the board in a frantic ballet. My pawn on f7 advances to f5, a defensive maneuver to protect my vulnerable pawn on h7 from the potential assault of her bishop on d3. But then, she reacts with the acuity of a true master, her pawn on e5 capturing mine on f5, sharpening her weapons for a formidable offensive.

However, far from being caught off guard, I respond with agility, sliding my rook from f8 to f7, ready to launch an attack against her potentially exposed knight and her bishop already under pressure from my other rook.

As our gazes met, I caught that spark in her eyes, a determination that contrasted with her usual calm, and I responded with my most mischievous smile. The game resumed, and in a flash, she moved her bishop from d3 to h7, putting me in check. Clever, really, she took my pawn and closed the door to any counterattack from my king. Ah, what a brilliant move!

This is exactly what I expected from you, Kurisu. A less brilliant move would have been a real disappointment. You never cease to amaze me, and I bet Shiro, with her critical eye, shares my admiration. This move triggered a knowing laugh from me, a sincere appreciation for the turn of the game... and Shiro, she saw it too, didn't she? Ah, what a game!

Sora: I'm not even surprised anymore at this point. It's truly impressive. I say with an admiring smile, my eyes shining with excitement. You manage to make every move captivating. At this rate, I'll have to double my efforts just to keep up.

My hand moves quickly, guiding my black rook from f7 to h7 to capture her daring bishop, slightly restoring the material balance. I mark my move by stopping the clock.

Kurisu, with an almost choreographic ease, reacts by moving her white queen from h6 to g6. She's preparing a new assault on my black rook while securing her queen. As soon as she stops her clock, I pick up the game's pace without losing a second. My black king retreats to f8, escaping her queen's threat for now.

But Kurisu doesn't slow down; she follows up with her white knight leaping from f3 to g5, putting new pressure on my rook. I counter by pulling my black rook back to e7, securing it while subtly challenging her queen.

Her play becomes even more precise as her white pawn advances to f7, creating a more direct threat. With a sly smile, I move my black rook to e8 to counter this new threat.

Kurisu, always strategic, maneuvers her queen to f6, taking my black rook hostage with remarkable precision. Amused and impressed by this escalation, I move my second rook from a3 to h3, narrowly avoiding her knight's threat.

The end seems inevitable. Her pawn on g2 advances to h3, capturing my rook with surgical precision. I let out a laugh of admiration for this thrilling game, moving my last rook to d8, a final defensive gesture, aware of its limited impact.

Our eyes meet, acknowledging the imminent conclusion. The audience, captivated by every move, senses the upcoming outcome. Shiro, anticipating the end, shifts her gaze from the game to observe Kurisu, the soon-to-be victorious strategist.

... ... ... ... ...

With solemn serenity, Kurisu advances her knight to h7. This move, both decisive and elegant, seals the fate of the game, resonating in the attentive silence surrounding our battle. Thus ends this epic confrontation, marked by exceptional strategy and exhilarating rivalry.

Kurisu: Checkmate!

OST end.

In a sharp and confident tone, she suddenly declared, the palpable tension filling the room for a few moments. Then, almost like a wave, applause broke out around us from the few spectators present, though their number was modest.

I looked over at Kurisu. Instead of appearing defeated or downcast, a sly smile spread across my lips as I locked eyes with her, a light chuckle escaping me. Ah, the situation is perfect... I wonder if you caught the underlying message, hmm?

Sora: Well, look at that, seems like I've lost this time. I said with an amused smile, my eyes still sparkling with challenge even in defeat.

Shiro, perched on my lap, briefly looked up to meet my gaze. A silent exchange, brief but meaningful, before she returned to her observation, her expression as impassive as ever. Meanwhile, my right hand casually played with her hair, a gesture as natural as it was calming.

Beside Kurisu, Kirumi wore an elegant smile, a palpable pride in her eyes. Her expression was almost as radiant as if she had won the match herself.

Kirumi: As always, you demonstrated great mastery, Miss. Kirumi expressed her admiration with a graceful touch of respect. That was truly an impressive match. She then turned to us, her voice carrying a note of sincerity and warmth. You were no less impressive; you exceeded my expectations by far. I'm sure you were a particularly interesting opponent for Miss. Don't be disheartened by your loss, as you've shown remarkable skill.

Shizuo: Shizuo smirked almost mockingly. Heh heh, yeah, don't be too down. He crossed his arms, looking relaxed. To be fair, no one can match our genius. Maybe Arisu, but even she, I bet, wouldn't be up to the task.

Heh heh heh, now that's interesting... Yes, I lost this time, that's clear. Kurisu is truly formidable, no doubt about that. But would she really have won if we'd continued? Maybe it could have ended in a draw. We'll probably have the chance to find out next time.

Kurisu: Kurisu displayed a sly smile, her tone a blend of satisfaction and challenge. Yes, that was a good duel, thank you, everyone. But I must admit, I'm left a bit unsatisfied. She turned her gaze toward us, her eyes shining with a determined glint. Next time, I'd really like to see everything you've got.

Shizuo: Huh? What are you talking about? He shook his head, looking a bit irritated. I don't really get what you mean, but he lost, right?

Kirumi: I must admit I don't fully understand either, Miss Makise. Kirumi bowed slightly in respect, her expression serious and attentive. Could you enlighten us a bit more on this point?

Heh heh heh, predictable, isn't it? For them, she won, end of story. And even the sharpest minds would struggle to see beyond this appearance without knowing the details. It's precisely this mystery that will reveal the true measure of Kurisu's talent. Her little remark made me smile even more because I already know where all of this is leading.

Shiro: Shiro crossed her arms, her piercing gaze fixed on their opponent. My brother wasn't really at his best. He mostly wanted to see what you were capable of... and if you'd notice the ruse. She spoke with cold assurance, hinting that there was much more to uncover.

Shizuo: Shizuo frowned, visibly irritated. What? He turned to her, looking annoyed. What are you talking about? What kind of lame excuse is that? He shook his head in disapproval. Sorry, but your brother lost, that's just how it is! He let out an exasperated sigh. Accept your defeat.

Kurisu: Kurisu gave Shizuo an exasperated look, her tone mixing firmness with a hint of frustration. Stop it, Shizuo!

Shizuo: Shizuo squinted, annoyed. Huh? He shook his head with a dismissive smile. Seriously? That's just a sore loser's excuse.

Kurisu: Kurisu observed the scene with a piercing gaze, her expression shifting from concentration to a flash of realization. She spoke with calculated precision and a touch of fascination. This behavior is completely atypical for them. I'm convinced there's something more complex behind all this. I'm certain there's an intention behind it all. She paused for a moment, then continued with revealing clarity. From the beginning, I noticed something strange. The first mistake he made was too blatant to be accidental. That move was so out of sync with his overall strategy that it tipped me off. Her gaze became more intense as she continued with a hint of challenge. Every time he made an uncharacteristic move or a mistake that didn't match the rest of his play, he'd give me these particular looks. As if he was trying to give me hints or gauge my reaction. Kurisu turned to the others, her smile revealing an intellectual satisfaction mixed with irony. So it seems he chose to falsify his own game to test me. It's a form of arrogance, sure, but also a rather clever demonstration of his abilities. He probably wanted to see how I would react. She shrugged, with a satisfied smile and a hint of condescension. In any case, this match was far from ordinary. And I think everyone would agree that it was an interesting challenge.

I couldn't help but laugh at her remark. Truly fascinating, isn't it? She seems to have figured it all out from the start.

Sora: Heh heh, well, as I suspected, you're really fascinating. I said with a sly smile, my eyes sparkling with challenge. Indeed, I held back a little. You see, I had to gauge what you were capable of. I let out a small laugh, amused by the situation. Don't worry, next time I won't hesitate to show you the full extent of our game. Get ready to truly discover what Blank has to offer.

I finished my sentence with a mischievous smile, watching every nuance of her reaction. Shiro, still on my lap, observed the scene with equal intensity, her eyes gleaming with discreet curiosity. The palpable suspense added an electric touch to the moment, and I savored every second of this intriguing interaction.

Kurisu: Kurisu observed the situation with a piercing gaze, a slight amused smile on her lips. Her tone, while remaining calm, conveyed a hint of intellectual challenge: I figured as much. It's clear you're not bad players. She raised an eyebrow, her expression showing a mix of challenge and curiosity. Well, I hope next time it'll be a real match, right? She concluded with a knowing smile, implying she was ready to take on the challenge with all the seriousness it deserved.

Sora: Oh, don't worry, I never use the same trick twice. I smiled with a mischievous air, the gleam of challenge in my eyes. That was just a little appetizer to see how you'd react. Next time, be prepared, I won't hold back. We're really going to show you what Blank can do, and believe me, it won't be a joke. So, get ready to see the full extent of our game. I finished with a playful wink, full of confidence and anticipation.

Kurisu: Kurisu raised an eyebrow, an amused smile on her lips. I'll be looking forward to that, then.

Oh, I completely agree, and I bet Shiro shares this anticipation. We're looking forward to this face-off with such fervor, Kurisu Makise. You're going to become one of our most exciting challenges, and I'm determined to reveal the full potential of Blank to put you to the test.

Kurisu responded with a mischievous wink, her arms crossed, and a smile that was both mysterious and enticing on her lips.

Kurisu: Well, I think it's about time we head for lunch, don't you think, Kirumi, Shizuo? She paused briefly, placing a hand on her stomach in a gesture of impatience. I'm really starting to get hungry.

Shizuo: Oh, yeah, I'm starving.

Kirumi: It would indeed be wise to go quickly.

Kurisu: Well, I would have liked to invite you to join us for the meal, but I'd like to move quickly so I can explore the rest of the campus...

Without finishing her sentence, she reached into her pocket and pulled out a pen and a small notebook. With calculated speed, she scribbled something down, tore out the page, and put the notebook and pen back in her pocket. Kirumi and Shizuo exchanged surprised and somewhat puzzled looks. Oh, what is she up to? Now I'm really curious...

Kirumi: Are you absolutely sure about this, Miss? Kirumi expressed her doubt with polite finesse, while maintaining a respectful attitude. But of course, the decision is yours.

Shizuo: Shizuo turned abruptly, eyebrows furrowed. Huh? That's ridiculous! He shook his head with a mix of irritation and frustration. You can't just give that to some random guy, Kuri'. We don't even know what kind of person he is!

Kurisu: Kurisu adopted a serious expression, slightly annoyed, as she extended a piece of paper toward us. Her tone was determined but polite. I'm perfectly capable of giving it to whomever I choose. She slid the paper across the table with precise care. Here's my phone number. Feel free to call or message me. I'm also looking forward to spending more time with you, of course.

Oh, her phone number, huh? A mischievous smile spread across my lips. This is the first time a girl this fascinating has given me her number like this. This bodes well for my popularity phase—it looks like it's starting off great! Maybe this opportunity will lead to something even more thrilling. She's both beautiful, graceful, and incredibly smart. The perfect combination, if I do say so myself.

Shiro, still perched on my lap, gave me a disapproving look. I could almost hear her thoughts scolding my enthusiasm. She always had a knack for sensing what's going through my mind. Ah, I should've expected that from her.

I took the paper with the number, glanced at it for a moment, pondering what it might signify, then carefully tucked it into my pocket.

Shizuo: Shizuo stared at me intently, arms crossed. Hey, consider yourself lucky! He growled in a firm tone. It's a rare opportunity to get that. Make good use of it and enjoy your luck, man.

Sora: Well, it's pretty surprising, even for me, to get the number of such a pretty girl on the first day of school. I said with a mischievous smile, my eyes sparkling with challenge. Don't worry, I'll make good use of this number. And honestly, I'm really looking forward to seeing you again. I had a lot of fun, after all. I added with a playful wink, injecting a bit of laid-back arrogance. Get ready, next time I plan to make things even more interesting.

With a conspiratorial smile, I pulled out a pen and a worn piece of paper from my pocket. I quickly scribbled down my own number before tucking everything away. Like a well-orchestrated dance, the gesture was reciprocated.

Sora: And here's your prize for winning: the phone number of the legendary Sora of Blank! I said with a teasing grin, my eyes gleaming with mischief. I hope you're satisfied, because it's a real trophy. Not many people can say they have such a number in their possession. Make good use of it, it might come in handy! I finished with a wink, my tone full of playful arrogance.

Kurisu: Kurisu accepted the paper with a slightly ironic look, a subtle smile on her lips, but her tone remained serious. Oh, what a surprise, the number of the famous Sora. If someone had told me I'd have it one day... She tucked the paper into her pocket with methodical precision. Standing up from her chair, she stretched briefly before heading for the exit. As she passed by us, she turned briefly with a professional but cordial look. Very well, until next time then.

Kirumi: Kirumi followed with natural grace, turning at the same time to give us an elegant bow. Have a wonderful day, and until next time.

Shizuo: Shizuo didn't even bother to turn around, his arms behind his head, looking nonchalant. Yeah, yeah, whatever. Later.

Sora: I stood up from my chair with a bright smile, my eyes sparkling with anticipation. Until next time! I waved theatrically, a glint of challenge in my eyes. Don't rest on your laurels too much. We'll meet again, and believe me, the next match promises to be even more epic. See you soon, then! I let out a small laugh, adding a touch of mystery and competition.

Shiro: Shiro also waved, her face remaining impassive. Goodbye... and until next time. Her voice was soft, almost mechanical, but with a hint of determination in her words.

And with that, we watched them slip away, their steps echoing in the hallway like a familiar melody. The other spectators seemed to return to their activities as if the show had just ended.

Well, I guess it's time for us to head to lunch. After all, even the sharpest minds need to refuel their energy.

Sora: Well, that was interesting, wasn't it? I said with a satisfied smile, my eyes sparkling with excitement. I noticed Shiro looking at me with a curious, almost perplexed expression. Mmmh, what's on your mind? I asked, a bit amused and curious. Looks like you have something to say. Come on, share your thoughts!

Shiro: Shiro slightly turned her gaze away, her expression remaining neutral. No, nothing... Just let me know next time you plan on losing... Her voice was calm, but there was a slight hint of reproach in it.

Sora: Oh, sorry, sorry! I promise I'll let you know next time. I said with a playful smile, shrugging with a touch of nonchalance. It really came to me on a whim, it wasn't even planned. I gave a wink, then changed my tone with a burst of enthusiasm. Anyway, shall we go eat? I'm starving!

Shiro: Shiro nodded, her expression still calm. Yes, let's eat! There was a subtle spark of enthusiasm in her voice.

With those words, we left Class A, ready to venture into the labyrinths of this vast school in search of a good meal. The campus stretched out before us, promising a culinary discovery as intriguing as the academic mysteries that awaited us.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Well, hello everyone!! A new chapter has just been released, and it marks the conclusion of Chapter 2! I hope you've enjoyed the story so far—I've really put my all into making things exciting, especially the chess duel, which I hope kept you on the edge of your seat! This time, it's Sora's turn to take the spotlight... I hope I didn't go too out of character with the personalities, but regardless, I had a blast writing this chapter, and I hope you'll have just as much fun reading it!

Feel free to share your thoughts and feedback—it would mean a lot to me! With that, I'll see you soon!

Featherine: Hmph, you really want to know my opinion, don't you? I suppose the idea of a chess duel isn't entirely without merit, though some parts were dreadfully banal... For now, I'm content to watch from afar as a mere spectator. Perhaps children of man like you should learn to appreciate art without pretending to understand it.

Oh, I completely forgot you were here... Honestly, I didn't ask for your opinion! But fine, as long as you just read quietly without interfering, I'm okay with that... Wait a second, what's with that last sentence? It makes absolutely no sense—I can't figure it out at all, but knowing your style, I'm guessing it's some kind of veiled insult, right?

Featherine: Don't bother trying to grasp the full depth of my words; it's beyond your reach. Just go ahead and scribble something down; I'm already starting to feel bored again.

Grrr... I'm really getting tired of this. Are you planning to stick around much longer? Can't you just stop popping up out of nowhere and read quietly? The fourth wall is already in shambles, remember... No need to make it worse!

Featherine: Ah, but isn't that all part of the game? And to be honest, I find it quite amusing, so I'll have to decline your request. I enjoy sharing my thoughts on a story, especially when the author is present—it makes it all the more delightful. Plus, I love observing the musings of others and seeing just how fascinating the children of man can be... in their ignorance.

There's nothing I can do about it anyway, so... I'll just have to deal with it. In any case, I hope you all enjoyed this! The next part should be coming soon, so stay tuned!
