Hannah looked into the calm golden eyes, then suppressed a chuckle. Her sad heart warmed up at Lucas' attempt to shift her focus and uplift her mood.
"I can check, but I doubt I will be able to find the answer, big brother."
Hannah tried, and managed to keep her voice calm. But her eyes betrayed her. Her voice did not crack, but her eyes which were taken over by the tears that climbed up showed the feelings she tried to hide. It was because Lucas' smile brought her back to the time when they met, decades ago. It made her realize that ever since that day when the couple opened the closet that was always narrow and dark in her memory, ever since they had taken her under their wings, they had cared about her, protected her. Just like now, when warmth was being transmitted to her heart despite the situation.
Lucas' smile widened, and he raised his empty hand which he placed on the head of brown hair. He laughed:
"Aren't you too old to be crying, little girl?"
