Samuel Johnson pursed his lips, glanced at her with difficulty, and picked up his pillow from Amanda Smith's bed. Then he said to Amanda, "I want to be alone for a while. I'll sleep in my own room tonight."
Amanda stared blankly as Samuel's figure disappeared at the doorway. Only when the door closed did she come to her senses, clenching her fists.
This was their first argument after so long.
This argument left her feeling disheartened.
Samuel wanted her to stay in the Johnson family and be a canary. They had grown up together; didn't he understand what kind of person she was?
With her personality, how could she possibly be content like Mrs. Johnson, peacefully staying at home, taking care of her husband and children?
To devote the latter half of her life entirely to her husband and children...
Such a life would be too dull.
The more Amanda thought about it, the angrier she became. She pounded the pillow hard, feeling like she was about to explode.
