Chapter 155 - Old Laws of Duels

Ghost Demon still had his mask on and was shirt with bandages with healing ointments. His arm was also in a sling Sun popped it back into place and he was now sitting comfortably in a chair. "So he's back?" Ghost was given the debrief on their situation.

His head sank with guilt for having the Hellhounds here. But he had no choice in the matter. He would have preferred the War Dogs, but Broken Sword had been successful in getting himself out of the city. "I apologize for getting them involved. My original allies were missing" Red Demon didn't look unpleasant by the turn of events. "No, we will use them to defend the city. The War King far from here is slaughtering his own men taking their chi. I could feel it from here a while ago. Just a strong bloodlust and killing intent. The chi felt wrong. I felt the same sensation when I was under the arena" Smiling was staring out a window at the gate. People bustling about and being ordered around by Warlock. "Are we really going to take a back seat? I'd like to kill that guy" Red Demon shook his head. "These people have been beaten down by a tyrant. They only know how to submit and today we saw the remaining populace finally show some backbone. But the minute that man showed up, he submitted again. It's best we let them come to the breaking point and defend themselves against the Seers" Sun Demon shook her head. "Social experiment? We're about to be under siege by a powered King!" Red Demon paid her no mind as he saw the Hunter walking towards the building they were in. He entered and sat down sighing with relief as he stretched. He crossed his legs and set his hat upon his knee. "So this is where you all went and hid out?" He smirked big and winked at Sun Demon. She rolled her eyes as he took a swig from his flask. "What can we do for you?" The Hunter gulped down a drink. "Nothing. I'm waiting for my exit to open. Seemed like a good place to hide out" he took another swig. "What's the mood out there?" Hunter seemed to be paused in thought as he stared at the Red Demon. He contemplated that question. "I would say it's intense. The air isn't right out there something is happening and eventually we're all about to be a powder keg" Red Demon nodded and then exited the building. He couldn't explain it but he felt the same way as the Hunter. And his Bedlam element in particular was screaming at him with a deep voice it seemed to call out to him to jump over the wall. Find the powerful chi presence and drain them dry.

But he pushed down that urge and kept walking towards the wall ascending the stairs and looking over the ramparts. He looked out at the red desert and waited for something to happen. Upon the sands were bodies and debris all destroyed by their cannons. The scene was surreal and bird-like creatures descended down picking at the bodies. "So you're the Slayer huh?" Warlock came from behind Red Demon with his arms crossed behind his back. "Yes" he said back, still keeping his eyes focused on the desert. "I heard rumors you were dead?" he stood next to him overlooking the desert with him. "Clearly not. Perhaps you shouldn't take stock in rumors?" Warlock chuckled. "The rumors of you being a great warrior and a ruthless one at that? Those lies too?" now Red Demon made eye contact with him to drive home a point. "No. That one is very true. Don't think your plan will work like you think it will?" Warlock grinned, "What plan is that?" Red Demon turned to face him now the desert all but ignored.

"You want to be king. The World won't choose you. I know they won't for a fact pick a scumbag like yourself. Your plan is to subjugate these people once the king is eliminated. I won't let that happen. Just like I won't let the king live if it means the survivors will walk through these gates free" Warlock rolled his eyes. "When did the station of King Slayer become so soft? You honestly give a shit about these people? Really? Every single one of them is soft and weak; they need someone to rule them with an iron fist. If not they crumble they didn't even fight me when I barked orders. They are institutionalized and I will use them for my own benefit" he stepped forward. "If that means eliminating you too then well that's a bonus" his eyes started to glow. He was doing all he could to intimidate the Red Demon. But it wasn't working. All he saw in front of him was an old cultivator who had become stale in his training. He reached a level high enough and stopped. Reputation seemed to be his only means to subjugate others. He was no true threat to Red Demon, but that didn't mean he wasn't dangerous to others. He could kill all here if he wanted to with one order from his Seers. He wouldn't need to lift a finger to do so.

But he sighed at this intimidation and turned back to the desert. He said nothing to provocation.

The War King sat in the middle of a bloodbath, corpses littered all around him of his own men. A red cloud of chi swirled around him and using his mental energy he was controlling it with his mind. It swirled and bulged as it floated above his head. The cloud then descended down engulfing him in the red energy as he began to sock it in. Under him was a makeshift magic circle like the one in the arena. He absorbed all the energy slowly with his each breath red mist came from the holes of his mask flowing out his mouth and nose. His soul core ate with vigor feeding off the energy and increasing his power for a final showdown. After the cloud dispersed he stood up slowly and cracked his neck and knuckles. He brought out his shield and a javelin. He started to walk towards his city again. Each step was heavy in the sand under his feet as he walked slowly through the dead bodies and overturned vehicles. He was now not far from the gate. "Should we fire?" A seer asked Warlock who shook his head. "Seems he's alone, maybe he wants to negotiate?" he said with a sly smirk on his face.

Red Demon said nothing as he stared at the king who stopped and stuck his spear into the ground. He then called out to the people manning the gate. "I enacted the law of Dueling. Bring your champion forward if they lose you relinquish control from the city. If you lose well...then that's up to you what you do afterwards? Who will be your champion?" he screamed. Red Demon said nothing as he descended the stairs and manifested Havoc Flame and unsheathed Moon Ray. "Open the gates" he told the Seers. They looked confused as all turned to Warlock looking down above them. "Do as he says. Let's see if the rumors are true about you?" he winked at Red Demon. He gave him a glance and then looked forward. 'That man could really use a beating' he thought. The gates creaked loudly as they opened enough for Red Demon to exit out. He walked out towards the king. His companions were now standing on the ramparts. Ghost Demon walked behind them still bandaged up under his cloak and clothes. They said nothing as he looked on. "Who might you be?" the War King asked, staring at his opponent in confusion. "Are you the Ghost Demon giving me problems?" he asked. "No. I gave you problems long before the Ghost Demon appeared. I've wanted to meet you and face you for a long time. I'm the King Slayer and today ends the reign of the Dreaded Faction" this caused the War King to burst out laughing. "You're the King Slayer...of course! Oh, I have been wanting to meet you for along time as well. You have decimated all my plans and I plan to make you pay for all it!" he then ran forward with his spear.
