Chapter 16 - Promote Her As The New Director

After Sandra departed, Chuck found himself with little to occupy his time at the repair shop, as he had been waiting for the maintenance of Sandra's car tire to be completed. With nothing else to do, he decided to head home and promptly got into his vehicle.

During the ride, Chuck's thoughts circled around the surprise his grandfather had referenced earlier. The only possibility that came to mind was the Rolls Royce, as his grandfather had mentioned that he would contact the dealership to arrange for one to be delivered. Leaning back in his seat, Chuck became lost in contemplation.

Amidst his reflections, images of Sandra's radiant face and her graceful figure kept intruding on his thoughts. Could it be that he had developed feelings for her? This remained to be seen.

Approximately forty-five minutes later, they arrived at the entrance of their villa. Once the gate swung open, Chuck eagerly scanned the area for the anticipated Rolls Royce, hoping to catch sight of it parked within the compound.

However, unable to identify any unfamiliar vehicle, he realized that he had no choice but to wait until he entered the villa to inquire about the surprise from his grandfather.

The driver parked the car directly in front of the entrance, and Chuck exited, making his way inside the villa. He knocked gently on his grandfather's door and stepped inside.

"Hello, my child. How was your day?" inquired the elderly gentleman upon seeing Chuck enter his room.

"It was fine, Grandpa. How about yours?" Chuck responded.

"It was a good day, my child. I've been resting for most of it, thanks to you I now feel quite rejuvenated. Please, have a seat and enjoy a cup of coffee." A mug was already placed on the table, and Chuck filled an empty cup, slowly sipping the warm beverage.

"Chuck, has Sandra finalized the agenda for tomorrow's meeting?" his grandfather inquired.

"Yes, Grandpa, it's ready," Chuck responded.

"Excellent, my child. Tomorrow, you will accompany me to the meeting, and afterward, we will return home. I anticipate there won't be much to address in the office," his grandfather said.

Chuck nodded in agreement and requested that the elder postpone announcing their familial relationship until he was prepared to take over the business.

"Alright, my child. Why do you prefer not to be introduced as the heir of the Wallen family?" the grandfather asked.

"I simply wish to maintain a low profile until I am ready. Furthermore, my ex-wife is one of the doctors attending the meeting," Chuck explained.

"Are you telling me that your ex-wife works at our hospital? I had no idea. Do you intend to terminate her employment, considering the past situation involving her and that new boyfriend?"

"Grandpa, I don't believe that's the best course of action at this moment. If she is performing her duties effectively, we should allow her to continue until we have substantial evidence to warrant any action. I don't think firing her would be appropriate; instead, I would prefer to consider promoting her to the position of Director of Clinical Services. This way, I can better assess how to manage the situation."

"Promote her? You truly have a kind heart, just like your parents," remarked his grandfather. "If that's your wish, we can announce her promotion to Director of Clinical Services in tomorrow's meeting. What are your plans once she assumes that role?"

"I'm not certain yet, but I will devise a strategy in due course," Chuck replied.

"Very well, I will leave this matter in your capable hands."

"Grandpa, you mentioned over the phone that you have a surprise for me. I've been pondering what it might be on my way home, and I initially thought you might have purchased a Rolls Royce for me. However, upon arriving at the parking garage, I did not see it.

As you said, it's a surprise, and it wouldn't be a true surprise if I were aware of what it was beforehand." With this, the elderly gentleman rose from his seat. Upon reaching the door, he turned to Chuck, who was still seated on the couch, enjoying his coffee.

"Are you coming?" Grandpa inquired. Chuck stood up, placed his coffee cup on the table, and followed the old man toward another room. The grandfather knocked and entered, with Chuck closely behind him. He felt a mixture of amazement and excitement as he witnessed his son playing with his toys under the watchful eye of Nanny Margaret. Nick, in turn, paused whatever he was doing and rushed toward his father.

"Daddy! Daddy!" he exclaimed with joy as he approached. Once he reached his father, he leapt into his father's arms. Chuck caught him and playfully tossed him into the air, and both father and son reveled in their joyous reunion.

Chuck then turned to his grandfather, bowing respectfully as he expressed his gratitude for the thoughtful gift. "At last, I will have someone to keep me company when I am alone and bored," remarked Chuck's grandfather before he exited the room. Chuck played with his son for a while before leaving him with Nanny Margaret and heading to his room for a shower.

Nanny Margaret subsequently took Nick downstairs for dinner. Later on, Chuck and his grandfather joined them. After dinner, the old man retired to his room. A few minutes later, Chuck took his son to bed before heading to his own room to rest.

The following morning, Chuck awoke and went to check on his son. He found Nick still asleep and quietly left the room, making his way downstairs for breakfast. Once he finished in the dining room, he returned to his room to prepare for the day ahead—an important day as he was scheduled to attend a meeting, something he had never experienced before. He felt a sense of nervousness about how the meeting would unfold, especially concerning how his ex-wife might react upon seeing him."
