Chapter 15 - Lunch In The Cafeteria

In the office, Chuck, Sandra, and their bodyguards exited and proceeded to the cafeteria for lunch. Upon arrival, they were greeted by the waitress, who guided Chuck and Sandra to a table for two, while the bodyguards were seated at a separate table. Their meals were subsequently served, and they began to enjoy their lunch.

Other patrons in the cafeteria were engaged in quiet discussions, speculating about Chuck's identity. They had never before seen Miss Sandra, the director of the secretaries, accompanied by a man other than the elderly gentleman they had not realized was the president.

The female onlookers expressed envy at Chuck's handsome appearance and wished they could be seated next to him, while the male patrons cast admiring glances at the beautiful Sandra.

"Who is that young man dining with Miss Sandra?" one observer inquired. "I noticed them having lunch together yesterday," commented another, while a third declared, "I aspire to be the one to marry the lovely Miss Sandra." This prompted laughter from the others, drawing the attention of Chuck and Sandra towards the direction of the conversation.

"Have you even looked in the mirror? Do you really believe Miss Sandra would consider you as a friend, let alone a potential partner?" one man retorted, addressing the individual who had expressed his desire to wed Sandra.

"Let me inform you, do you see that young man beside Miss Sandra? He likely hails from one of the wealthiest families, which is how he is afforded the opportunity to dine in this establishment," was another response.

"I haven't seen that man before, so it seems he is not an employee here. He must be affluent and merely visiting to have lunch with Miss Sandra," added another onlooker.

The discussions continued as they speculated about Chuck and Sandra. Unbeknownst to them, Chuck would soon become the president of Westminster Hospital.

Once they finished their meals, Chuck and Sandra leisurely chatted and laughed before departing the cafeteria. After approximately thirty minutes, they made their way back to the office. The workload for the afternoon was minimal, allowing them to take their time returning to their responsibilities.

As they were conversing, Chuck received a call from his grandfather. He promptly pressed the answer button and said, "Hello, Grandpa. How are you today?" His grandfather replied, "I'm well, my child. How are things there in the office? I hope you've had your lunch." Chuck responded, "Yes, Grandpa. We've already had our lunch and are back at work. How about you? Have you eaten yet?" His grandfather confirmed, "Yes, my child, and I also have a surprise for you, so please, don't stay too long at the office." With that, the call was disconnected.

"A surprise?" Chuck murmured to himself, pondering the contents of the call. Sandra heard Chuck speaking but didn't quite catch what his grandfather had said. Turning to her, Chuck explained, "It was my grandfather on the phone, and he mentioned he has a surprise for me." Intrigued, Sandra asked, "What do you think it could be?" Chuck replied, "I'm not sure, but he did promise to buy me a Rolls Royce. Perhaps that's the surprise he's referring to. In any case, let's focus on finishing our work for now."

"A Rolls Royce?" Sandra inquired, clearly surprised. "Your grandfather is buying you a Rolls Royce? I've never been in one before." Chuck responded, "When he gets it for me, I'll be sure to drive you around." "Thank you. I'll be looking forward to it," she replied.

Sandra then checked her to-do list and reminded Chuck that they needed to prepare the agenda for tomorrow's meeting first.

"By the way, Chuck, will you be attending the meeting?" Sandra asked. Chuck replied, "I'm not entirely sure. My grandfather hasn't mentioned it, but I think I will go. However, I'd prefer if he doesn't announce our relationship publicly." Sandra, surprised, asked, "Why not? Don't you want people to know who you are?" Chuck clarified, "It's not that; the situation is that my ex-wife is one of the doctors here at the hospital, and I believe she will attend the meeting. I would like her to see me, but I would prefer if she remains unaware of my current circumstances. For the time being, I want her to regard me simply as an employee."

Sandra inquired about your ex-wife, expressing surprise that Chuck had ever been married, let alone involved with a girlfriend, as they had never discussed their romantic lives. I explained that I was in an arranged marriage, although my former spouse harbored no affection for me. Eventually, she was unfaithful, and, in collaboration with her mother, coerced me into a divorce, subsequently evicting me from their home.

I later experienced a kidnapping, from which I was fortunately rescued by my grandfather's bodyguards, who took me to his residence.

Sandra then asked if I had any insights regarding who might be responsible for my kidnapping. I suspect that my ex-wife and her new partner may be behind it; however, the motivations remain unclear. The kidnappers informed my grandfather's bodyguards that they were sent by a young man named Louis and were ordered to eliminate me. Fortunately, my grandfather had engaged a private investigator to monitor my activities, who alerted him about my abduction, leading to my timely rescue.

Sandra was taken aback to learn that the dashing young man seated beside her had been kidnapped and was in imminent danger of being murdered. "I am truly sorry, Chuck, for everything you have endured. I hope that one day, those responsible for the plan to take your life face the consequences of their actions," she lamented. "I am confident that they will ultimately pay for their deeds; I will ensure they regret their choices when the time comes."

Time was of the essence, and they needed to return to their tasks. After completing the meeting agenda preparations, they focused on the remaining items on Sandra's to-do list, steadily crossing each one off. With the desk organized, they settled onto the couch and turned on the television.

They spent the next hour enjoying a music show before Chuck recalled that his grandfather had asked him to return home early. He turned to Sandra, who was beside him, and said, "Sandra, the beauty of the town, could we head home now? I nearly forgot my grandfather's request to be home early." "Alright, handsome. I was beginning to feel a bit sleepy anyway," Sandra replied.

As they stood to leave, Sandra informed Chuck that she needed to use the restroom. She headed to the facility while Chuck waited on the couch. After a brief five minutes, Sandra returned, and together they made their way to the elevator, which took them down to the parking garage on the third basement level. Once they arrived, Chuck accompanied Sandra to her car, only to discover that one of her tires was low on pressure.

"Oh no, what am I going to do?" Sandra asked, distressed. "It's alright, Sandra; I will assist you in changing the tire. Do you know how to do that?" Chuck inquired. "Do not worry about that; just unlock the car and let's hope there's a spare tire in the trunk." Sandra replied, "Yes, I believe there is one, although it's never been removed since I got this car." After she unlocked the vehicle, Chuck opened the trunk and, fortunately, found the spare tire.

Chuck then searched for the wheel spanner and jack. Once located, he set to work unscrewing the wheel, and within minutes, the task was complete. Sandra expressed her gratitude, and Chuck advised her to either take the tire for repair or purchase a new one on her way home. "Where can I get it repaired? Do you know of a place?" she inquired.

"Just give me a few minutes," Chuck said. He went to his car and informed his bodyguards that he would be riding with Sandra and that they should follow them to a repair shop. Chuck returned to Sandra's car, settled into the driver's seat, and drove off, with the bodyguards in tow.

Upon arriving at the repair shop, Chuck exited the vehicle and was soon followed by one of the attendants, who promptly removed the tire. The repair was completed quickly. Sandra thanked Chuck, waved goodbye, and departed, while Chuck waved back, saying, "See you tomorrow, Sandra. Drive safely."
