Joan Edwin walked out of the study with her phone, cursing all the way to Virginia Daniel and Gordon Edwin's bedroom.

"Bang bang bang—"
"Boom—"
"Dad, stop sleeping, get up, I have something important to tell you!"

She started with an angry knock at the door, then gradually put more force into it until she was violently kicking it with her foot.
The sound of the door being kicked was loud and disruptive, making it difficult for anyone to ignore.
