Chapter 13 - Chapter 13: Calm Before The Storm

4 days later.

"Sirus! Sirus come here quick." Sasha yells.

"Yes, mother! Coming." He replies as he walks into the lounge

"Sweety, I have been working a bit too much lately. Can you be a good boy and go shopping for me?" She frowns as she puts her hand on her lower back indicating it's sore.

"Yeah, sure no problem, what do you need? And where is dad, I haven't seen him all day?"

"Oh, him, he's taking a walk with his friends as you should do." She stops for a moment and shakes her head before continuing. "Here take 16 rulen credits and oh, what we need, hmm, yes I remember. 2 pieces of bread….." She recounts Sirus what he will need to buy from the market and hands out16 rulen credits to Sirus.

Sirus nods and picks up the rulen credits and takes a look at it whilst he's heading towards the market.

"Rulen credit, they call it, the currency of this world, they're the size of a 50 cent piece and shaped like one also. The ones I have are the lowest grade, bronze rulen, and the cheapest. I studied about this currency back in school so I should know everything there is to know."

Several minutes later he arrives at the market

"It's not as busy as the other times I have been here. Sirus continues walking until he finds what his mother asked for. What was it again? 2 bread and some eggs and oh yeah, butter too." He reaches a stall and tells the man what he needs.

"Here you go kid, that will be 14 rulen." Says the man behind the stall with a scruffy voice.

"Thank you, how exactly I'm I supposed to carry these? He replied as he knitted his brows together in confusion.

"What? You didn't bring a basket with you? Sigh, here you can borrow this one, but bring it back as soon as you get home alright?. The man says as he narrows his eyes on Sirus.

"Thank you.". As he put the items in the basket something caught his attention." He looks up in the far distance and sees a big person sitting on top of a decent-sized hill. Sirus squints his eyes and could tell that it was the village chief staring off in the clouds. He looks back in front of him and heads home.

[Knock]

[Knock]

"Mother, I'm back." Says Sirus as he closes the door behind and places the items on the kitchen table.

Sasha walks through and looks at the items he bought to make sure he bought what she asked for before looking at Sirus.

"Thanks dear, what will you be doing for the rest of the day?"

As Sirus approaches his mom to give the exchange of the rules credits he says.

"I need to go back and give this basket to the owner and I'm going to go visit the chief." He replies.

Sasha looks down at his hand and sees a basket and widens her eyes as she forgot to give Sirus his own basket.

"Oh, sorry dear I forgot to give you my basket."

"It's okay mother, I will be going now I will be back home before sun fall, Bye."

"Okay dear bye, love you! Wait? He's going to visit the village chief? Huh, how odd, oh well."

Sirus returns the basket to the man of the stall and thanks him once again before walking towards the hill.

"Who is it? The village chief looks beside him and sees Sirus climbing up the hill. Oh, it's you, Sirus boy."

"The one and only Sirus, haha." He replies with a chuckle.

"What brings you up here?" He asks as he looks at the sky.

"Oh, you know, I thought I would chill with you a bit and talk for a while before I head home, I got nothing else to do at home." Sirus replies as he glances at the chief before sitting down beside him and staring at the vast open view of the open world.

"Hey, have you been outside of the village before and I mean like lived outside of there or like adventuring outside?" He glances at the village chief with a curious thought.

The village chief continues to look at the vast sky for a few moments before glancing at Sirus.

"I was not born from this village, I lived in a humble peaceful village very much like this one here. As a child, I always went into the vast dark forest to fill my curiosity and see the wonders of the creatures and the monsters that lurk in the forest. Sometimes they prey and hunt at night, sometimes monsters would come crawling out of the dark. But that did not scare me but made me even more curious about the outside world, beyond the village. One day when I just hit 16 years old. I left the village and packed all my things without telling my parents or anyone as a matter of fact. I just left one early morning and never looked back. I encountered countless races of all kinds from goblins to giants that towered above the trees. I even made a few enemies and some new friends and allies. I drank and ate all kinds of foods and drinks, it was like paradise for me, to live out in the wilderness to move anytime you want to do anything you want. I met a few villagers and towns along the way but they were mostly humans and I learnt the hard way that humans consider demons their sworn enemies."

He paused for a moment to take a deep breath and lift up his shirt revealing his back. Countless battle scars from the time he fought the other races and monsters but the majority came from the humans. "I have plenty of scars around my body from time to time. One day I decided to go back to my village. I have lived out there for 40 years.

"When I reached my village, I…..I saw nothing but blood and death everywhere, the houses all burnt to ashes, everything was gone from the houses to the villagers who lived in this peaceful village all but murdered in cold blood. By the time I reached the village their bodies were already being eaten by other wildlife and at that moment I felt rage and anger I have never felt before. I saw flags and iron swords scattered on the ground and when I found out it could be no other race but the human race. I picked up the iron sword and used it against the humans with their own weapons. They were not far from my once humble village that once strived. I ran day and night in rage."

He took another breather and looked out in the sky before continuing on.

"I reached the human settlement and once again saw the same flag that was scattered at my village. I called for my allies and brutally massacred every last human being in that village and did not spare even the woman or the children. As they did not show mercy to my people, I showed no mercy either. If only I had never ran away from my village to fulfil my desire, I could have protected my people. But instead."

Before the chief could continue on Sirus stopped him.

"I understand. Sorry for asking for such a question if I knew it would lead to the past I would not have mentioned it. Forgive me Village Chief." Sirus tilted his head down and bowed for forgiveness as he saw tears forming in his eyes as he told his past.

The chief swiped his tears and calmed down and patted Sirus head and smiled.

"You're a good kid Sirus, you know how to speak well, and respect your elders, you are smart as well. Especially for your young age. Your parents must have been proud of you when they raised such a splendid child."

Sirus looked back up slowly and thanked him sincerely.

The village chief pulled Sirus closer and hung his arm around him as they looked at each other and stared at the vast open world, knowing how brutal some races can be to one another.

'I know chief, I know.. I was once a human being and not a proud one, they waged war against each other for their own selfish desires, whether they knew that it would kill countless innocents and families lives they still waged war and killed their own kind. They robbed human lives without a care in the world knowing that they had their children and parents waiting for them. I am not proud to have lived in such a world.' Sirus thought as he glanced at the chief before looking forward at the soft fluffy clouds.

A few minutes passed and just when Sirus was going to head home he saw the chief widened his eyes as he saw countless figures heading towards the village.

"Im-impossible….. I…..I killed all those humans, why are they carrying that flag!."

"Village chief, what's the matter?" Sirus asked as the chief was building up rage and anger as he saw he gritted his fangs with a furious look as he stared on the road that led out of the village. That then Sirus turned his head and saw... Humans, some wearing full plated armour, some wearing robes and two figures riding on horses that were armoured. And countless flags high in the air and shields with a navy blue colour and a white person holding a cross in the centre of their chest.

"Wha….What are they doing here?!" Sirus stared at the roads with a frightened look on his face as he gulped in terror, knowing what happened to the chief village, he could only imagine one possibility of why they are here.

To massacre and kill every last one of them. Their feet of armour could be heard as they drew closer to the village.

One of the Holy knights who was riding looked up in the distance with a large grin on his face. "I found you."
