Abigail woke up in the morning to find the side of the bed empty.
It wasn't the kind of empty when someone had gotten up after sleeping. It was the kind of empty when no one had slept there all night, neatly undisturbed.
This result wasn't within Abigail's expectations. So she sat up and stared blankly at the empty side for quite a while, a bit unable to accept it.
She thought Brandon Piers would somehow find a way into the bedroom; then, like many times before, he would cling to her bed and hold her to sleep.
But she hadn't expected that despite knowing she was mad, he would choose to remain indifferent.
Having tossed and turned all night without sleeping well, Abigail's mood was exceptionally foul. The conversation between Brandon Piers and Elder Piers from last night kept surfacing in her mind, making her wonder uncontrollably. Was it because of the current predicament, or did he truly echo that old saying about treasures being unattainable but taken for granted once gotten?
