Chapter 1 - Entrance exam

Izuku stood before the gates of the practical exam. If he had a heartbeat, it would be racing by now but no, his quirk ensured his heart didn't race. It had been after his conversation with All Might that he had flung himself down the building they were standing on. Hours later, he awoke in a morgue. His quirk had activated upon death, waking up not amongst the living but a walking corpse. They found him a little later and ran tests. None of his organs continued to function, he didn't sweat, he didn't pee, he didn't breathe. And then there was the hunger. No matter how much he ate, he wasn't full, after all, he couldn't digest food anymore. It had been in the hospital when he found the one thing that could nourish him, blood. He had ripped open a blood bag and drank greedily from it. After that, he was supplied with a constant stream of blood.

He drank it in his tea. When he went too long without it, he would become aggressive, the beast within him snarled and wanted out, wanting to hurt others. The hunger never went fully away but it took the edge off.

That wasn't all however. Hid quirk also allowed him to fuel his body by burning a bit of blood, making him stronger, faster. His wounds healed within minutes, even if they would be fatal. His senses too were enhanced. He could smell blood from a few hundred meters away, which he learned when he met someone on their period, which was very soon after his awakening.

Izuku prepared for the gates to open, channelling some of his blood into his leg muscles. When the gates opened and present Mic's voice called out, "begin!", he rushed forward at inhuman speed, racing towards the first robot. With enhanced strength, he ripped through the metal with his clawed hands, severing its circuits. 1 point.

He jumped towards another robot, tearing it in two. Two points. The next was a few dozen meters away but it took only a moment before he was there. 4 points.

7 points, 8 points, 10, 12.

He was rounding a corner when he saw a boy with purple hair paralysed in fear, standing in the direct line of a two pointers stinger. He rushed over, taking the blow meant for the purple haired boy, pushing him back a meter before he ripped the tail off and impaled it with it. The wound in his stomach was rapidly healing.

"You okay?" He looked over his shoulder. The boy nodded and he was away, 14 points.

17, 19, 20, 21.

He saw another student in trouble, a girl with orange hair and big hands, we are talking about hands the size of dumpsters. She was slapping a villain bot but was surrounded. When she hit one of them, another attacked. She couldn't take them out with one punch, so she was just ragdolled around. She was panting heavily.

Izuku rushed forward, punching through one of the three pointers, severing its canon, which he then aimed at the other three robots surrounding her. 29 points.

"Are you fine? You look pretty hurt"

"Just… need to catch my breathe… huff, huff", the girl looked at him, surprised. He was a scrawny kid. His quirk didn't give him defined muscles, no, it enhanced what was already there to a stupid degree. Sure, he had done some training and he wasn't as scrawny as before but he was still scrawny. That's right, he could still build muscles despite being effectively dead. How that worked he didn't know. Where did the mass for his muscles come from when he couldn't process normal food? Who knows. Quirks are just weird like that. He hadn't stopped aging either, in fact he had grown a few centimetres since he had awakened his quirk. In some aspects, he was a walking corpse while in others he was a normal boy of 15.

"Good, try to keep out of trouble and good luck", Izuku vanished in a blur.

32 points, 33, 35, 38, 40…

He was about to punch another two pointer when a laser beam shot right through it. Glancing at where it had come from, he saw a blonde boy with a fancy belt, "it is only natural to be jealous of my awesome quirk"

Izuku snarled. He could just sink his fangs into his neck, he was running low. The boy was scrawny and his quirk probably only worked if whatever he was shooting at was in front of that belt… he could just grab him from behind and-

No!

Izuku shook himself out of that state, taking his canteen bottle out of his pocket, drinking the blood tea inside, all of it. He was satiated for the moment, if not fully satisfied but it kept the beast at bay and gave him more than enough fuel to finish this exam.

42 points, 43, 46, 48.

The ground shook. Looking up, he saw the zero pointer, a giant of metal, easily bigger than the building's around them. Its giant palms smashed the buildings, causing debris to fall. Izuku was about to run, like everyone else but then, his enhanced senses picked up a yelp. Looking back, he saw a brown haired girl stuck under the rubble that had fallen, the zero pointer slowly approaching.

"Fuck- I need to save her!"

He rushed over, pushing his undead muscles to their absolute limits.

He lifted the concrete off her with maximum effort, "you can walk?"

"N- no- I- I think my ankle is broken", she winced.

The zero pointer's foot was about to descend. If they didn't get out of there, they would be crushed under the 70 ton robot. He picked her up and rushed into a nearby alley, where he sat her down, "I'm sure we can get you to a medic later, atbleast here you are safe. The zero pointer is too big to fit down this alley. I will stay with you just in case any robots wander in here, you can't defend yourself right now"

"No! Go out there, get more points! I don't want to be the reason why you don't get in!", she spoke as she held her foot in pain.

"What kind of hero would I be if I just left you here, alone?", he smiled. 48 points should be enough, surely.

A few minutes later, the end of the test was announced and Recovery girl walked through the site, healing anyone hurt with her kisses. Her quirk allowed her to accelerate the healing process of anyone she kisses.

The broken ankle was fixated within seconds, "thank you and you- what is your name?"

"Midoriya, Izuku Midoriya and yours?"

"Ochako Uraraka"

Without saying another word, the green haired boy walked away, unsure of whether he made it in or not.

A few weeks later, his mother rushed into his room with a letter in hand, "it is here!"

He quickly ripped open the envelope and a small metal desk fell on his desk. A hologram shot out from it. A tired looking man in all black with a grey scarf and bright yellow goggles around his neck greeted him, "hello, I am a representative of UA high. We have reviewed your performance in both the theoretical and practical exams. Your theoretical exam was amongst the best we received this year, so even if you didn't make it into the hero course, you'd still be eligible for general studies", the speech sounded rehearsed, "though do not worry. In the practical exam you gained 48 villain points, which alone would've just managed to get you into the hero course but it was your other actions which have fully cemented your place amongst them…"

The video cut to Uraraka-chan standing before present Mic, "Izuku Midoriya, he stayed behind to keep me save, I want to give him some of my points, those he could've managed to get if he hadn't saved me"

The video cut again to Izuku saving Uraraka, then to his other two saves, the purple haired boy and the orange haired girl with the big hands.

"How could a school for heroes not measure the heroic character of its examinees? So there is a hidden metric of hero points, of which you have earned 75, bringing your total score up to 125 points, making you our top scorer by a wide margin. So, I, and the rest of UA, welcome you to this, your hero academia!"

Izuku cried tears of blood. He had made it in! He had even gotten a higher score than Kacchan!

If he had a heartbeat, his heart would've jumped with joy.
