Chapter 1: A Fresh Start
Avery a 16 years old high school student, stood at the gate of her new school, looking nervous while her fingers tightly clutched the straps of her bag
She had always been a very shy girl but with big dreams and great potentials , it's been a week since she moved to the new town with her parents but it seems like she hadn't moved yet, the thought of her old friends and the old house kept coming back to her, the new faces, the new street, new school and a whole lot of new people made her anxious. She walked in with her her Heart racing, unsure to expect. The hallway was filled with chatters and laughter but all she could hear was the voices in her head and the thump of her own heart beat, so many eyes on her as she walked through the hallway, she bumped someone —hard. "Watch it" a sharp voice snapped. She looked up and met the fierce stare of Brianna, the girl everyone seemed to know —and no one dared to mess with".
Brianna.
The most popular girl in school surrounded by her clique, glaring at her like she'd just stepped on her toes. A slow smirk just spread across Brianna's face as she folded her arms. "Well, well, well"... If it isn't a new girl try to make a grand entrance
Everyone around Started laughing. Avery became more anxious, she looked down trying to avoid eye contact with Brianna. But Brianna wasn't finished with her yet
"Careful next time Brianna added with her sweet but venomous voice. "Try walking with your eyes open next time — not everyone around here likes surprises."She leaned in close and flung her long hair dramatically at Avery's face. And the hallway was filled with laughter
Avery froze, with her face still glued to the ground she, she felt like disappearing, but then—just as brianna and her clique Liam and Julia walked past her, someone stepped forward.
"Hey," a calm was firm voice cut through the noise. "That was unnecessary". The laughter slightly died down.
Avery surprisingly looked up. A tall boy with Messy dark hair and clear, steady eyes now standing between her and Brianna he looked calm, with his hands tucked in his pockets
"Chill Nathan," Brianna said rolling her eyes. "it was just a joke
"Didn't sound like it was," he replied. He turned to Avery, with a smile on his face. "You good?"
Avery just gave a slight nod, unsure if her voice would even work at the moment.
Brianna scoffed. "Whatever. come on girls." she walked out, her clique following her, still whispering.
Nathan waited till they were gone before turning back to Avery. "You don't have to worry, she does that to literally anyone who breaths near her spotlight."
Avery finally managed a to say a quite, "Thanks"
"Anytime, I'm Nathan, by the way."
She gave a calm, sweet smile "Avery".
He nodded. "Well, Avery Welcome to Maplewood High
"Thanks" she said in a low tone
