Rain tapped gently against the windows of the small Tokyo apartment, a soft rhythm that echoed the quiet loneliness of Haruki Sato's life. Eighteen, aloof, and a little too independent for his own good, Haruki preferred solitude, his only companion being the soothing chords of his guitar.
That changed the day a new neighbor moved into the apartment next door.
She arrived with the scent of spring, despite the drizzle—Himari Tachibana, radiant and refined, like a song you never forget. Haruki first saw her struggling with a box at the elevator. Against his instincts, he offered help. Her voice, when she thanked him, was like a soft piano key—unexpectedly beautiful.
Over the next few days, Haruki noticed her often: on the balcony tending to a line of potted herbs, humming while hanging laundry, always with a gentle smile. He kept his distance, but one night, after a long study session, he found a small container of homemade curry on his doorstep. A note was attached: "You looked tired yesterday. Hope this helps."
That was the first crack in Haruki's walls.
They began exchanging little things. Her meals, his music. She would leave snacks, he would play her favorite songs when she sat outside. Neither spoke much at first, but every note and bite carried more warmth than words ever could.

Heartbroken but determined, Haruki plays a final street performance dedicated to her. The crowd claps—but he only listens for one person's response.

Months pass. Haruki thrives in Kyoto but keeps a framed photo of Himari beside his guitar. One snowy evening, he returns to Tokyo for a surprise winter concert.
In the crowd, he spots her. Himari, holding her own guitar, eyes glistening.
Together, they perform a duet on stage—an original piece titled "The Encore of Us."
After the performance, she whispers, "I never stopped loving you."
Haruki smiles. "Then let's write our next melody together."
Their story ends not with a goodbye—but with a beginning.
Volume 6: The Rhythm of Everyday
Now living together in a small apartment in Kyoto, Haruki and Himari adjust to the rhythm of shared mornings, mismatched schedules, and the quiet joy of a relationship no longer veiled in hesitation.
Himari decides to teach music at a local school, where her days are filled with children's laughter and the occasional concert. Haruki juggles classes, performances, and composing—but he always comes home to her humming in the kitchen.
The challenges are smaller now—burnt rice, forgotten laundry, missed messages—but every disagreement ends with a smile or a kiss. They start building new dreams together: maybe a café with music and books, maybe a dog, maybe… a life that never skips a beat.
One spring evening, Haruki takes her to the hill where they had their first picnic. Under a canopy of cherry blossoms, he pulls out a ring, simple but sincere.
"Himari… Will you be the melody in my life forever?"
She tears up, laughing and crying all at once. "Only if you'll be the harmony in mine."
They embrace as petals fall around them, the music of their hearts beating in perfect time.
