Chapter 29 - Episode 29- The Airborg Fight

It's been two weeks since Metsuhai visited the Dark Grey Club for the first time. It's not like he hated the place, but even after earnestly sharing he felt like an outsider there. He didn't fit in. But Tsukiyama insisted Metsuhai was part of it, and therefore had to visit at least once a week. Well at least I don't have to be there all three times per week like the others. In the club they did more than sharing experiences. They discussed philosophy and history and created paintings using oil colors. Metsuhai even wondered how would Masaru feel there in his place, but probably he would attack the other club members immediately.

Come to think of this, Metsuhai haven't met Masaru, or anyone else from his friends for a while. He did saw Kuma once engaging two crushers. After landing a hand (although Kuma was doing just fine), they spoke briefly. Kuma did manage to tell Metsuhai that Takeo, Nao, Masaru and himself were all Lesser Sergeants now before they parted. It was only three days ago that Metsuhai was promoted to the same rank as well.

Ando surprisingly showered him with praise. It seems Metsuhai's actions in the Armageddon Championship didn't go unnoticed. Ando did say that raising ranks now will be much more difficult, but Metsuhai could only be happy that he caught up to his friends after being demoted and that his hard work was again appreciated. The salary increased too.

Unfortunately Chizue kept distance from him. It seemed some reporters began spreading rumors about the two being a couple, and Metsuhai insisted they should keep low profile. Chizue clearly disliked that notion and by now Metsuhai almost regretted it. But he had made up his mind to raise his rank further and only then pursue an official relationship with Chizue. After all, he may be the famous Mordon Destroyer, but she was Arisu. On the other hand, if he were to become a General maybe Goh will attempt match- making by himself. Of course, that was an incredibly long and hard way to go. Metsuhai honestly didn't expect to make it this far before they were found out. But it sure was nice to have a goal that wasn't just survival. For now however, there was much to enjoy in life. For the first time since he joined the order, Metsuhai had not just enough money to survive, but extra money he could use in any way he so choses. The burden of acquiring considerable amounts of Blue Amethyst Dust was lifted of him, after all. Eventually Metsuhai bought himself a small apartment in FortCity. He could barely afford it even with the discount for active warriors, but with his increased salary and consistent rate of demon slaying his bank account was destined to swell in no time. The only matter clouding Metsuhai's mood was the knowledge Vardalac was still out there, somewhere. Hiding, plotting, waiting for his moment. I wonder how many people he had eaten by now…

If Metsuhai were to be completely honest with himself, he would have to admit Vardalac left fear in him. For the first time in a long time, Metsuhai was uncertain in his ability.

Metsuhai was training really hard. His power and speed kept growing. Nevertheless, the light-speed-time acceleration remained beyond his control. More precisely, he could now hold it for less than a second and collapse immediately afterwards. Not very practical.

All in all, Metsuhai's mood was good, even when fighting hard. He went to battle knowing what he was fighting for. And today was just another day on the battlefield.

An old steel train was making its way through the mountains with metallic sounds. From far it looked like there's nothing special about it. But for those with sharper sight it was easy to notice the two figures on top of the train…

Metsuhai was standing with a blood covered sword and a raised shield. Though his armor was new, his shield was the same one, with the Arisu symbol on it. On another wagon was positioned an orc- the ape- like orange skinned men-eater, similar to the one Metsuhai once bumped into in the smithy. He had full armor and was holding a massive executioner's axe. There was a small hole in his armor where Metsuhai stabbed him with his blade. Metsuhai almost slipped. The wind was extreme. It was hard to balance on the fast driving train. The sharp turns were particularly tricky. This guy is strong. His blows ignore my shield as if it isn't there. I mean, it does protect my body from the blade, but the shockwaves are something else. Dodging and using speed and technique is the practical approach here, but I have to be on my gourd. This guy has incredible endurance. I have to thoroughly finish him off. Anyway… I can't believe this is how my first visit to the states looks like.

Metsuhai was sent to other countries before though very rarely, but never in a different continent until now. His work however remained mostly the same.

The bleeding orc spoke with his roar-like manly voice "scientists call us Neanderthals, but actually we're orcs. In your realm long ago our two races fought and yours won. Now in these strange circumstances we meet again. This time we will win and your entire race shall be eaten!"

Metsuhai's battlephone rang. It wasn't the first time the phone rang in the middle of a fight. Usually Metsuhai would ignore it and call afterwards, but the phone was glowing with an unusual red aura. Metsuhai's instinct told him he must take that call.

"Lesser Sergeant Fugughuu, Answer now! Can you hear me?"

"I'm a bit occupied here."

"You listen to me now. We have an emergency. Code Red!"

Metsuhai turned to the orc "wait just a second." The bleeding orc froze in place, waiting.

"Forget what you're doing right now and go to the coordinates I send you. Start heading west already and that's an order!"

This must be something big. "Yes sir, tell me the details on the way."

Metsuhai sent a last look to the angry, wounded orc. Once I leave him here he'll kill everyone on this train but I have no choice. If it's code red the entire humanity could be in danger. In his heart, Metsuhai apologized to all the innocent people on the train. "We'll finish this some other time if you live long enough." Metsuhai jumped off the fast moving train with no hesitation.

"Come back here you coward!" shouted the raging orc.

The battlephone was really an amazing invention. Not only it displayed the sent coordinates, Metsuhai even had a satellite map of the area in front of his eyes with a dot to mark his location and an 'X' marking the goal. And of course there was Ando's voice. As Metsuhai ran with all his might with his phone in hand, Ando, sweating and stressed was typing on his keyboard with vigor while speaking.

"…The enemy target is a nuclear silo. You see, all the attempts of the dark army to create nuclear weapons in their own realm ended with complete failure. The laws of physics and reality in their lands are just so different. So instead they are aiming to use ours. Demons are immune to nukes, we aren't. With the missiles available inside they could blow away at least three large cities…"

Shit.

"…Even if it doesn't start a nuclear war, this is millions of lives we are talking about. The order capital is safe, we have countermeasures. But losing so many in one day will brake our moral and they know it… The most important thing is stopping the Cyber- demon. We know little about the Cyberdemon but our intelligence says that he seems to be the core of the attack and must be destroyed. If you kill him, it's over. If not, we lose."

"I'll take care of it, sir. I don't understand though why am I sent for something so critical, furthermore alone."

"You are one of the strongest warriors we have close to the enemy target. There are reinforcements on route, but they will probably be too late. There were many enemy diversions to draw us away. They planned this thoroughly."

"I am close. Ending communication, sir."

"Roger that and good luck. The fate of mankind depends on you."

Metsuhai put the battlephone back on his belt and drew his sword, never stopping to run. The mountains all over the place made finding the silo really difficult, but according to the map he was really close. Soon enough Metsuhai finally found it. A small military base, easy to recognize as such, because of large communication tower, visible even from distance. Good. Without slowing down, Metsuhai focused to sense any energies nearby. Even when rushing, especially to such an important mission, he couldn't allow himself to get careless.

Metsuhai immediately felt a tremendous power. Though it was softer than all demon energies he ever encountered the power level was something else. Other than that power Metsuhai couldn't sense anything. This was quite surprising, sense supposedly it was a serious invasion. Something was clearly wrong.

Metsuhai ran forward to find none other than Koi. He looked exactly like Metsuhai remembered him, but his samurai armor was clearly of higher quality than ever. And his power… I can't believe it. After all my training, all my endless effort his energy is still stronger. Can I beat him? Even with the double power up it seems unlikely. I am glad we are on the same side.

Koi briefly examined Metsuhai, seemingly not surprised to meet him here. "Good, you're here."

"Koi kun, long time no see. I know we are here for the same reason- let's hurry inside. And where's the reinforcements?"

"I am the reinforcements, and it's Koi-sama for you." Metsuhai was so shocked he completely stopped. And I thought we were friends. "What are you talking about?"

Koi pointed to Metsuhai's shoulder, where the two blue stripes could not be missed, "I see you rose to Lesser Sergeant, and it's nice, don't get me wrong, you progressed indeed. However… I was promoted fast with a perfect record with no loses…" Koi pointed to his own shoulder, decorated by two impressive red stripes, "…And not too long ago, I was promoted to Greater Lieutenant. I'm with the higher officers now." That Koi!

"We don't have time for this. I am moving forward."

"Then let's."

Metsuhai and Koi began running fast, crossing the distance as if they were two racing cars. As fast as Metsuhai was, Koi left him behind with no effort whatsoever. He was actually waiting for Metsuhai so not to leave him behind. If I run any faster I will engage when out of breath at the very least. Koi seems to not get tired at all… His endurance is really remarkable.

Metsuhai and Koi rushed in, stopping simultaneously, surrounded by wreckage. These used to be buildings. There was a scent of blood in the air. Koi and Metsuhai have arrived to the base.

Metsuhai couldn't hide his nervousness. "Where is the silo?"

Koi and Metsuhai walked around the demolished base. The wire fence didn't just have a hole in it- it was torn to pieces. The buildings around were in bad shape. Some walls were covered in blood. Torn pieces of military uniform hovered in the air, effected by the wind. Soon enough the two found the staff of the base, torn, and lying in their own blood. Metsuhai counted at least twenty men and one woman.

"Here it is," Koi pointed on a big steel door to a tall warehouse like building.

Before Metsuhai could say anything he heard the sound of wings flapping. Something was going down to them fast. Soon they could see him- a grey gargoyle. A big gargoyle with very evolved biceps and squares on its stomach. The gargoyle wore shorts the like of athletes and black sunglasses, making him look like a horned CIA agent, if we ignore the bat- like wings and solid looking tail. He descended to them, stopping in mid- air.

"Allow me to introduce myself… General Airborg." Airborg removed the glasses exposing two yellow eyes with red pupils. But his gaze wasn't hungry like that of a crusher. Neither was he insane like Mordon when going into rush. Combined with the wrinkles on his forehead the gargoyle looked like an agent doing his job. The gargoyle put away his glasses and with a raise of one finger put a small force-field around them. "Leave the glasses out of this. They cost me a lot of money…"

Airborg's voice was not like a roar. He was talking like a human. Koi and Metsuhai looked with disbelief.

"I know who you are. Koi the undisputed and Metsuhai the Mordon- Destroyer. I myself am undefeated with 49 wins and no loses. Unlike some rookies in my army who tend to be overexcited, you know tearing everything down, eating everyone. They couldn't help it. I couldn't stop it. I am a professional, I get the job done. Though I'm skeptical I can take on both of you at once… however. You don't have time to fight me and catch the Cyberdemon before he initiates the launch and activates the rockets..." This is the legendary Airborg who is supposed to be even more dangerous than Mordon. I saw his name and description on the notice board. "…And I will definitely not let both of you pass. So what is it going to be?"

Koi turned to Metsuhai, "listen, he's right. You find and destroy the Cyberdemon while I will take this guy down from the air."

Metsuhai glanced at Koi. "Are you sure?" This way we'll be doing exactly what Airborg wants. This could be a trap… No. It is a trap. But do we have a choice? I still can't sense his power. Koi is strong however… he never was face to face with Mordon, and this guy is maybe even worse.

"Move it soldier! Who do you think I am? I'll beat this guy before you know it."

Metsuhai rushed to the steel door without another word. Airborg didn't move an inch. With several strong blows Metsuhai sent the door flying inwards.

The place looked empty at first. Radiation suits and protective gear, previously perfectly organized, now scattered across the hallway and rooms around it. It seemed most the building was actually underground. Metsuhai made his way down through the bunker- like facility. Despite what Metsuhai said before entering, he wasn't particularly worried for Koi. He knew too well how strong Koi really was. Koi is invincible. You picked a bad opponent this time, Airborg. But even if he were to be worried, he had his own situation to deal with. A feeling, similar to a sharp descent inside a flying plane struck him. He realized his sensing ability was now unblocked from Airborg's unique power. The Silo was flooded with demons. There were so many he couldn't even count. The only time he sensed so many (even more actually) was during the Armageddon Championship. Metsuhai increased his pace, overriding his instincts which told him to be slow and careful in such an infested zone, quickly passing by computers, electric wires and all sorts of other laboratory equipment. Some of it was broken. Metsuhai even spotted barrels with symbols of both radioactive materials and chemical danger. While running, Metsuhai's thoughts raced. I definitely don't have time to kill all of them. The Cyberdemon goes first. I'll only destroy those clearly in the way. The Cyberdemon wasn't one of the common demons shown on the Order manuals or one of those introduced to the warriors in the lectures, but it's not like Metsuhai completely didn't know what to expect. In spite of his parents prohibiting him, Metsuhai did peek into Doom games when he was small. The Cyberdemon was by far the biggest and the badest boss of them all, destroying the player in two hits or so. At least that's what Metsuhai remembered. This is supposed to be something huge and invincible. Yet I can't sense his power at all. Is he hiding it, did he know I'm coming and set me a trap?

Metsuhai rushed down the staircase, reaching the lower floor. "Protect the Cyberdemon!" roared the Blood- Fencer across the room. Demons rushed at Metsuhai from all directions, coming out from every hallway with clear intention. Metsuhai's blade moved like lightning, cutting down opponents faster than they could react. Beastmen fell to his blade like wheat meeting the sickle. A big crusher was pushed back and then cut down with repeated blows. The arriving ratmen opened fire from their rifles, filling the walls behind Metsuhai with holes. Metsuhai stood behind his shield, the bullets completely deflected. The ratmen didn't get another chance. Metsuhai sheaved his sword and released several white beams, blowing the ratmen away. A group of firestarters began throwing fireballs at Metsuhai. Metsuhai moved slightly, just enough for the balls to pass inches from him, moving faster than the eye can see. It almost looked like the fireballs were passing through him. Behind Metsuhai everything exploded with fire, but he was unharmed. Metsuhai crossed the distance fast and decapitated one of them in the blink of an eye. The others were slashed next, their bleeding corpses falling down.

A firestarter with stronger energy went into direct firing range. Before Metsuhai could attack the elite firestarter, the creature unleashed an all-consuming surge of flames. Metsuhai put his hand on the way and pressed forward, pushing the flames to the sides. With his other hand Metsuhai severed the thin opponent's throat.

Some lesser enemies like the weak familiars, the cowardly goblins, and the ratmen began fleeing to various directions. Among others there was a little hybrid. A small horned guy half familiar, half firestarter with electric looking wires installed on his wrists. I know demons rape each other all the time and sometimes, on rare occasions hybrids are born. But demon breeding habits were not the problem at the moment and Metsuhai had to focus on the situation at hand. The Blood- fencer was closing on him fast. Like all of his kind, the blood- fencer was undefeated in swordsmanship. Like a moving fort, defending himself with his heavy shield. But Metsuhai was pounding on his defenses, besieging the fort. He is not as strong as Captain Blood but it's taking too long. Metsuhai's energy burned with white flames around him as he powered up. Now his blows really shook the blood- fencer's defense. The big power gap was felt, bringing the Blood- fencer down. For a split second Metsuhai felt Koi's energy in spite of Airborg. It was dropping fast. Something is clearly wrong. It never happened before. Metsuhai had a terrible foreboding feeling. He chose to ignore it. Koi is invincible, he reminded himself, He'll be fine. It was better this way. Otherwise Metsuhai couldn't concentrate on what he was actually doing. Maybe Airborg is messing with my senses, trying to distract me. This could be psychological warfare, the dark army is good in that.

…Meanwhile…

At the entrance Koi was preparing to engage Airborg. Koi drew his katana, taking his fighting stance. Airborg landed right in front of Koi. Koi smirked lightly. The fool, he is underestimating me. Flight was his biggest advantage.

Koi charged at Airborg and began cutting. Airborg defended with his forearms, covering them with purple energy. He is too strong to cut down in one slash even if it's me we are talking about. And he's made of sturdy rock. Airborg tried counterattacking with his laser- claws, but Koi's reach was so much bigger. Airborg was pushed further and further back. This is what Koi was used to experience in all his fights.

At the end of the exchange grinning Koi stood in battle- position with his sword, clearly satisfied. Airborg's hands were hanging down. They were bleeding lava. He also had a deep diagonal lava- bleeding cut on his chest.

Airborg's expression remained unchanged since the start of the fight. He was so busy attacking that he missed the two summoning circles I planted at his sides.

"I am deeply impressed," sincerely said Airborg, "You managed to cut my arms in spite of my energy defense. You even put a wound on my indestructible stone chest, however… you are celebrating too early."

Two transparent pentagram circles were slowly rotating just behind Koi's back. Hungry crushers were rising out from them.

Intimidated Koi slowly began to look back, but it was too late. The left crusher attacked first slashing thorough Koi's body with his claws- a direct hit. Koi was strong, fast, technical, wearing good armor, but even he couldn't avoid serious damage from a critical hit of crusher claws. Blood rushed out of the wounds. Koi reacted instinctively piercing the crusher all the way to the other side. Then the right crusher sliced next. Tearing through Koi's armor. Koi killed him too the same way. The time Koi wasted on the crushers was just long enough for Airborg to unleash his most powerful spell out of his mouth. A white beam rushed towards Koi.

Is this Faith Magic…no it can't be. That's all what Koi could think in the short moments before the beam landed on him. Everywhere the beam hit stones began to grow, piercing into Koi's flesh. Part of Koi's damaged armor actually completely turned to stone. Koi torn the stones off himself, shouting, taking battle stance, trying to regain his concentration. Airborg put one palm on top of the back of the other and unleashed out of them an incredibly huge energy beam from the air. Koi put his hands foreword desperately trying to stop the beam. Putting such strain on myself will make my bleeding worse and he knows that.

Suddenly the beam became weaker. A less experienced fighter could think Airborg is running out of power, but not Koi. He is setting me a trap!

As fighting the beam became easier by the moment, satisfied Airborg appeared behind Koi's back. Koi pushed away the energy that exploded in quite a distance and turned to block the sneak attack with his sword. Unfortunately Airborg didn't attack him with his claws, neither he did with his energy. Airborg threw some powder on Koi's body. Koi couldn't possibly block that with the sword. when the strange dust came in contact with the wounds the burning pain was devastating. But it was Koi's eyes that Airborg was targeting. Koi shouted from pain as blood rushed out of his eyes. Koi could barely see anymore. "Have you heard about chemical warfare?... I created this one myself with combination of rare herbs and my energy. This acid is extremely toxic even slightly touching your skin." Airborg took to the air. He was doing circles around Koi, attacking from the air repeatedly from different angles. Wounded, blind, barely standing Koi still desperately tried to stand his ground with his drown sword.

"Protect the Cyberdemon!" (Crusher commander)

Metsuhai tore through another unlucky firestarter, now on the second lower floor. Slashing, cutting, sending energy beams, Metsuhai's advance was unstoppable. Beastmen corpses piled up on one another. Broken skeleton bones littered the floor. Demon blood was fading all across the room. One skilled goblin armed with a sword fought fiercely, delaying Metsuhai for a few seconds. I need to find that damn Cyberdemon now! Once again there was nothing resembling a huge and hungry beast. No opponent possessing overwhelming energy signature sighted. The strongest ones on this floor were the crusher in command and a strong- looking zombie holding a large butcher's knife. I should be more thorough than this! Sorcerer's Eye! With bluish background coloring, Metsuhai could see everything. Hundreds of enemies, all with different sizes and power levels. Although they were all evil, each energy was quite unique nevertheless. A few were reasonably strong compared to the others, but nothing Metsuhai couldn't handle. Nothing that screamed "I'm the cyberdemon, come get me!"

Frustrated, Metsuhai cancelled his true sight. The still many enemies around him were weary and hesitating. Humanity is on the brink of destruction, I can't allow myself to fail here, I can't waste any more time!

Desperate Metsuhai grabbed hold of a familiar by the neck, squeezing the air out of him. "Tell me where is the Cyberdemon or…" Metsuhai had to think fast "…I'll rape you with my huge cock in a way that even crushers don't do!..." Metsuhai couldn't believe what he himself was saying, but by the look in his eyes it seemed the familiar bought it "…If the dark army learns of this and finds you, you might be punished- if, but I am right here right now, now talk!"

With a squealing, chocked voice the shaking familiar replied "ok, it's this guy!"

The familiar pointed with his little arm covered with small claws on the hybrid creature crossing now to the very last third underground floor. "Is that it? The core of the attack force is this?" Metsuhai didn't see a shred of courage in the familiar's gaze but this was hard to believe.

"Yes, he is the brightest computing mind in all the inferno army," explained the familiar, "He can hack into any computer. He is the only one who can activate the rockets!"

Metsuhai pierced the familiar with his sword and rushed to the hybrid, but there were still so many enemies on the way. Now that he knew, it felt kind of obvious. The monsters clearly did everything in their power to stand between himself and the small sized computer expert.

Metsuhai followed his target to the lowest floor, covered with fading blood from head to toe.

Relatively speaking, there were less enemies on this floor since most of the invasion already engaged Metsuhai or fled from him. However the last obstacle standing between Metsuhai and the Cyberdemon was a line of four big crushers. Powered- up Metsuhai had no choice but to engage the crushers who he could not ignore. Swinging his blade with devastating force, he made short work of them. But… as the last crusher fell down Metsuhai saw the Cyberdemon in front of the biggest computer system Metsuhai had ever seen. With seven large screens of various sizes (one in the middle much bigger than the others), twenty keyboards and a few extra switches. This was quite obviously the core computer of the silo. Metsuhai had never seen anything so complicated. The Cyberdemon was on the job. He was typing very fast moving from keyboard to keyboard on his rotating chair. The wires from his wrists were plugged into the computers, accessing the machines in many ways, including going into the USB ports. On the screens Metsuhai saw quickly changing windows, some black, some blue, and all had written code or system commands changing fast. One of the screens had a green window which only showed constantly changing infinite numbers. It was obvious from the various screens that the silo's defenses were falling fast.

Right behind the main computer was a wall of armored glass, beyond which Metsuhai could count at least fifteen huge missiles. Metsuhai approached the Cyberdemon with decisive steps. At first the Cyberdemon was so caught up in what he was doing that he didn't even notice Metsuhai. The little hybrid's gaze changed drastically when he realizes the situation.

Turning fast to Metsuhai (still on his rotating chair) the Cyberdemon exclaimed "Wait! No need to be violent, let's talk about it!"

Though he wasn't typing anymore, the wires were still plugged in, and even as he spoke, the images on the screens kept changing. "We have nothing to talk about." Metsuhai plunged his sword into the Cyberdemon's chest. The Cyberdemon spat blood from his mouth. "You're too late. I will die, but I did my job. The rockets are aimed at Tokyo, New York and London. These places will cease to exist. There is no way to stop the missile launch now…" the Cyberdemon spat blood again, "…unless you have around you another me." The gaze of the Cyberdemon became empty.

With dread in his eyes the largest screen confirmed his worst fears. 'Launch Sequence Initiated. Targets Confirmed. ETA: 9:48'. There were less than ten minutes before nuclear strike and the clock was ticking.

Metsuhai rushed to the computer, looking helplessly at the screens. There was no big off button, or anything resembling a 'cancel launch' option. There wasn't even an 'X' which could be pressed on the big screen anywhere. The other screens were filled with stuff Metsuhai couldn't figure out, surely not in time.

How do I stop it? What do I do?

Metsuhai had no clue how to stop it, but he knew one thing for sure- he wasn't about to just give up and let it happen. No way!

Metsuhai slashed the wires, still connecting the dead and fading fast Cyberdemon to the computer system. It changed absolutely nothing. Should I blow up the computers? Or cut the electricity? No, that probably won't stop the launch. I'll leave that for last resort.

Metsuhai glanced at the missiles. White smoke was discharged around the missiles. Not enough to hide the massive steel tools of death but a lot nevertheless. It made Metsuhai's heart race. As he watched, the thick metallic cables holding the missiles, connecting them to the wall began detaching in perfect order. Do I blow up the missiles? It will kill me, Koi and contaminate everything around here, but surely it's better than the alternative. Metsuhai approached the unbreakable glass and stopped right in time. A big red sign on the top part of the glass wall dictated 'During hot experiments or launch the glass must not be damaged. Damage will trigger immediate strike on default targets.'

Is there another way to the missile room? There must be, but it could take hours to find and brake through to there. Not to mention there could be similar ridiculous precautions.

Metsuhai was frustrated but also (unadmittedly) relieved. He wasn't ready to die yet. Then the pressure resurfaced. Metsuhai forced himself to look at the monitor. 9:07. I still have time, but I don't know what to do!

Metsuhai decisively took out his battlephone. Ando might figure something out, he sent me to this mission. Thankfully Ando answered immediately.

"Fugughuu report! Why did both you and Koi turn off your battlephone cameras?"

"Yes sir! Don't know about Koi's camera but he is engaging the enemy. My camera is turned on, maybe it's blocked because I am underground. More importantly sir, the Cyberdemon is dead but the missiles are all activated. I got to him a bit too late. We must shut them down in the next eight minutes. How do I turn them off?"

"WHAT?! Isn't there an off button or something?! Find it and stop this! Do you realize the danger at hand? This isn't just our careers on the line. Blow those missiles if you must, just stop them!"

"…."

Ando softened up his voice a bit. "Listen, I'll try to find an expert or something, but you can't count on it. Do what you can, and…"

Metsuhai disconnected the call. 7:51. Ando is no use… I've got to figure something out.

Metsuhai took out his civilian phone. Tsukiyama. He can do anything.

Tsukiyama answered after several rings. "Tsukiyama sensei I have an emergency!"

"Me too, I'm playing chess with Bonehead and losing- AGAIN!"

Metsuhai ignored Tsukiyama's truth- based joke. "The inferno army managed to take control of an American nuclear silo. I stopped the invasion but the missiles are launching as we speak. I don't know how to stop them. Can you help?"

"No can do, I'm ain't that good with technology. Surely not from this distance. But don't worry, thank you for telling me. I will use energy and all the Dark Grey club will be completely safe."

This was hardly comforting. "See you later, sensei."

"Good luck, kid!"

Metsuhai stared at his phone. There has to be someone who can figure it out. I just can't do it on my own! Lezner? No, it's not his field. Masaru? He'll give me philosophy, I need concrete ideas. Chizue? I don't think her education covers nuclear silos.

Metsuhai took a deep breath. Was there nothing to do but destroy the computer and if that doesn't work, take out at least some of the missiles together with himself?

Five minutes on the clock and counting. Red lights were flickering. An alarm sounded, going up and down. The silo's roof began opening up slowly.

Metsuhai put his hands on his head. Concentrate. There has to be something else. A last idea, practically grasping at straws came to him. Takeo, Takeo is good with computers I think.

Takeo's day off didn't start well. Who would have thought that in the once in a millennium time when Takeo decided to rest, there will be a damn code red. He had to wear his full battle- gear and report to his commander and what for? Only to find out that the crisis could only be stopped by someone from the states. That was really annoying. Officially he was supposed to stay on standby until the matter was resolved, but he had no such intention. It was bad enough they ruined his day off once.

Takeo was sitting in a fancy half empty club. He was doing three things at once. Firstly he was listening to Metallica, full volume with his headphones. Then there was the Soccer match he was following on the wide screen. Finally Takeo was holding an enormous baguette with sausages and lots of ketchup and mayonnaise. His phone rang several times, but Takeo had no idea. That's until he decided he needs another beer. Takeo removed the headphones off one of his ears, "I need more beer here," when he noticed his ringtone (Heavy Rock).

It was the civil phone and Takeo considered not picking up. But he needed to at least know who was calling. Seeing it was Metsuhai, who rarely called, he picked up.

"Yo, what's up."

"Thank god, you answered, I need your help right now…" 4:40.

"Oh yeah! It's five- three… Ah sorry I'm watching here. What were you saying?"

Takeo was frantically giving Metsuhai instruction after instruction. After the not promising start of the conversation, Takeo actually got to business fast and professionally. He clearly knew what he was doing. 3:56. Metsuhai's was running from keyboard to keyboard, typing whatever Takeo told him to. Unfortunately shutting down or destroying the computer system would have been no good. They had to deal with the already initiated activation sequence and all other damage the Cyberdemon had done. Takeo was good at explaining, and although he clearly knew of the importance of the matter, his voice was calm and confident. "That bastard tried to lock the system completely…" From time to time Takeo complained or asked Metsuhai to describe what he was seeing on the monitors. 2:31. They seemed to be making progress, but time was ticking. Metsuhai wiped the cold sweat of his forehead. "You pressed the wrong button! We have to redo it!" 2:15. Takeo was chewing on the sandwich and Metsuhai could hear it. "I'm not sure what to do from here… let me think." Metsuhai nervously waited for Takeo's next instruction, which took five seconds to come. 1:42. Windows were appearing and disappearing on one of the screens too fast to be understood. The silo's ceiling above the missiles was now wide open. "One minute!..." warned Metsuhai when the timer changed to the number 60, "Takeo kun, thank you but I have to go with plan B and blow the missiles up…"

"Don't you dare give up on me here soldier, you wanna die and lose two cities instead of three? We can still do it!"

Fuck it!

10, 9, 8, 7… at the six seconds mark the timer stopped. 'Ignition canceled'. Metsuhai fell to the floor and took a deep breath. "Did it work?"

Metsuhai looked at the now dormant silo (though the ceiling was still open) and his phone with disbelief. "And I thought you were sure," replied Metsuhai, "Yeah. We did it. Tokyo, New York and London thank you. And me too for that matter."

"You owe me a drink. Maybe a good meaty meal. Bye man."

"Farwell, I'll see you later." Only when the call ended Metsuhai remembered. Koi!

Metsuhai rushed out of the silo entrance and froze seeing what he had never expected to see. Koi was sitting on the asphalt ground in a puddle of his own blood. His armor was torn to shreds. His sword lying at some distance. His eyes were shut, with trails of blood coming out of them. His body was a mess. Metsuhai didn't want to admit it, but these wounds were fatal. Even the best, excellent (not dog-shit made) health potion wouldn't help. Only Tsukiyama could have saved someone from this.

Airborg was motionlessly hovering at the same direction as the sun with his arms crossed. Because of the sunlight it was impossible to see his expression.

"Metsu…hai I'm sorry," Koi somewhat struggled to speak, "I underestimated him. He was too strong, too fast. I'm so sorry."

Metsuhai said nothing. He couldn't believe the invincible Koi would lose at all, not to mention facing a single opponent. Metsuhai closed his fists with force. I felt his energy falling… but I still didn't expect this. If only I stopped the Cyberdemon sooner!

Airborg flew a bit down. "Mordon Destroyer. I was looking forward to this. Since the day you defeated Mordon I knew we were destined to meet. I even studied all your battles as befitting of a pro like me. It will be a great honor to put an end to your existence. Yes beating Mordon is an accomplishment. I knew that guy for a long time. Mordon was strong, yet overexcited. Killing women and children with small axes. It destructed him from the task at hand. I assure you. I am stronger, faster, with superior tactics, and better in every possible way. The order did right to put an even higher prize on my head…"

Metsuhai felt his anger building up. Something about the buisennesy attitude Airborg had about everything rubbed him the wrong way. But at the same time there was something about this stone gargoyle that made Metsuhai respect him. After all, he wasn't insane, or some hungry beast. Of course, his existence was detrimental to humanity so Metsuhai had no hesitation about killing him. And there was what he just did to Koi… Metsuhai didn't want to think about that and focused on what Airborg was saying.

There's no way for him to know those things. Someone must have showed him both the notice board and records of my fights, how?

"…I was the best of my academy- generation. No one messed with me. I even received a golden medal as I graduated. And that's extremely rare. With now 49 wins, no loses… However, Koi did wound me much. It wouldn't be fair to fight the Mordon Destroyer like that… so what shall we do?..."

"I'll show you what we will do…" Does he think I'll wait for him to recover? By the way he talks he definetly isn't going to flee… Either way this is war.

Airborg sent his hand into his own mouth and drew out little pretty gemstones. Metsuhai immediately took his fighting stance. The gemstones took to the air hovering like a circle around Airborg. "You see, in the depths of inferno there are specialists of dark rituals. Through these, various goals could be accomplished. I'm one of such experts. I was a good student. Now let's see. I have eight extremely rare gemstones, what else is missing…"

Airborg scratched his forehead. "Oh yeah," Airborg gestured with his finger. Blood rushed out of Koi's wounds that were bleeding as it is. It formed the shape of a hovering circle like the stones. Bastard! Koi screamed in pain. Fire consumed the stones one after the other. Then the blood just disappeared. Airborg's wounds on his arms as well as his chest began to close fast. "Now that's more like it…"

Koi coughed blood. "I didn't… want to die like this. I had big dreams… Metsuhai. For the order and for me, if you have a trace of respect for me, avenge me." Koi fell back and stopped moving.

I am sorry Koi. You were really the best. Now I can never surpass you…

A single tear streamed down Metsuhai's face. He turned to Airborg, furious.

"Mordon Destroyer, go on, use the light- speed time acceleration. This is the only technique I cannot counter. Of course, you are barely controlling it and what's more important, I'm in the air. You will most likely miss and then collapse in exhaustion. Or perhaps you would like to prove me wrong?"

Metsuhai shouted to the sky as he uses the double power- up but it was more. Metsuhai was more powered- up than ever, his rage fueling his energy. Electric currents discharged around him and the wind rampaged.

Metsuhai was angry but he didn't lose his sense of strategy. He knew that to fight this unique and dangerous opponent whose energy couldn't be sensed he had to use True Sight. Sorcerer's Eye! Finally Metsuhai saw Airborg's energy or a glimpse of it. Even calm and completely hidden within him, it was impressive.

Raging Metsuhai charged at Airborg jumping fast from one instantly created air- platform to another. This way Metsuhai rose up the air rapidly as if he was flying himself. Airborg was just standing in the air with a poker face waiting for him. Metsuhai closed the distance, swinging his sword, aiming to slash to the body. Airborg tried to dodge at the very last moment, but he wasn't fast enough. I got him! But Metsuhai's sword caused no damage. And if not for Metsuhai's true sight, it would have seemed Airborg is indestructible. What actually happened was Airborg generating a stripe of purple energy on his body that the sword just couldn't pierce. That's some seriously skilled energy usage… With his speed and accuracy he can deploy that defense practically in any situation. It's like a layer of unbreakable steel appearing on his body. If Koi's two- handed sword barely passed that guard my one- handed sword is powerless, I have to go around it.

But Airborg didn't stop at that, his pupils becoming pink as he looked at Metsuhai from a short distance with his hypnotics. Metsuhai's true sight made things even much worse. Metsuhai's head and eyes exploded in pain. He shouted and put his palms on his eyes. Then came the fall. Agonizing Metsuhai couldn't possibly create the next platform in this state. Metsuhai fell from significant height and crash-landed on the ground, barely managing to land heavy on his feet. That was painful, and Metsuhai's gaze gave him away. However Metsuhai didn't have time to recover. Immediately after the fall followed the white stoning beam. Metsuhai dodged in the nick of time. It was impressive, since Airborg planned the beam to connect just as Metsuhai lands. A line of sharp rocks grew from the ground where Metsuhai was a moment ago, growing to the direction where Metsuhai moved. My sight magic is only partially working after that damn hypnotic gaze, but it's still better than nothing.

Airborg unleashed another stoning beam. Metsuhai blocked with his shield. Rocks began growing on the shield, but it was worse. The shield itself began turning into stone. Metsuhai rushed to remove the shield, and right on time. Most of the shield was now stone. Even the Arisu shield can't stop it! At this rate I myself will turn to lifeless stone.

Airborg's stone fingers moved slightly, as if beginning to grab something. It was the only sign of his excitement from what was happening. Now he cannot use the shield.

Airborg released a third stoning beam from his mouth. Metsuhai wasn't worried. From this distance hell never hit me. He is wasting energy pointlessly. Metsuhai dodged the beam with ease. Airborg however was clearly satisfied. Though he tried to hide it, Metsuhai could see it in his eyes.

Metsuhai felt something was wrong. Airborg was happy, and there was no sound of impact behind his back. Intimidated Metsuhai turned around to see the stoning beam coming at him after making a sharp turn in the air. Metsuhai dodged with great skill. However the beam changed course again chasing Metsuhai. Airborg's palms where glowing grey. Metsuhai began running as fast as he could and the beam gave chase. Airborg was taking his time, taking away Metsuhai's stamina. Finally Metsuhai blew up the stoning beam with a whole series of faith magic beams. It took all of them to negate the stoning beam.

Metsuhai was breathing hard. He was exhausted and needed a break. But Airborg did not have that in his plans. "This one is my personal hallmark," Airborg lifted his palms up and then as they release small electricity charges (side effect of the enormous power gathering), aimed them at Metsuhai "Crimson blast!" an explosion of violent crimson energy was lunched at Metsuhai with great velocity. I can't dodge this!

Metsuhai put his hands forward trying to hold back the incredibly huge spell, his feet digging into the asphalt as his body was pushed more and more back. This is one powerful blast, but if he thinks it'll bring me down then he can think again. Suddenly the energy pushing Metsuhai weekend. One might have thought Airborg was getting tired or just gave up on this attack, but Metsuhai knew better- something is wrong. While Metsuhai was still pushing the blast back, Airboreg appeared as if out of nowhere floating behind his back. Let's see how you like my acid powder, thought Airborg, his hands already grasping the toxic dust. Just as Metsuhai finished dealing with the blast, his body moved perfectly in reaction to Airborg's presence. Metsuhai used a back kick, hitting Airborg to the body. It felt like colliding with a mountain. The powerful kick caught Airborg off guard, disrupting his attack angle and the powder missed Metsuhai's face. However, a small dose landed on Metsuhai's arm eating its way through the armor and then through his flesh.

Metsuhai slashed with his sword as fast as he could but Airborg was back in the air just in time. He was now staying just a bit outside of Metsuhai's reach, as if provoking him to attack. Before Metsuhai figured out his next move however Airborg rained down lots of small yellow energy balls on him. Metsuhai skilfully deflected all of them. While Metsuhai was busy deflecting and dodging, Airborgs tail began growing longer, it was slowly sneaking in on Metsuhai's feet. Before Metsuhai knew it, the strong yet flexible tail wrapped itself around Metsuhai's ankle. This is Mordon's technique, briefly pondered Airborg. Next thing Metsuhai knew, he was in the air. As a start Airborg slammed Metsuhai into the wall of the silo, breaking a piece of the outer wall with his body. Then he broke the roof of a warehouse, using Metsuhai as a wrecking ball. To continue the onslaught Airborg drove Metsuhai into the ground. And he didn't plan stopping there. Metsuhai's body was exploding with pain. You could see it on his face. Finally in a desperate attempt Metsuhai cut Airborgs tail with one fell swoop, freeing himself. He himself couldn't believe he did it.

Metsuhai, back on the asphalt, was breathing hard. His armor busted up and his body hurting. Looking up, he spat blood from his mouth. Airborg wasn't in his prime either. He lost third of his tail, and lava was flowing out of him like a river. Unbelievable, he is even tougher than I could have imagined. Airborg should be in a world of pain right now. Yet he shows no sign of it. Metsuhai took a deep breath. I managed to hurt him, finally. But if this keeps up, I'll die for sure. I can't let him keep dictating the flow of battle!

Metsuhai released one white beam after the other, getting to work with his faith magic. The sky filled with small explosions as Airborg evaded all the beams with his incredible flying skills. Then what about an attack you can't dodge?! Metsuhai rammed his fists into the ground, (breaking through the asphalt) and a massive boulder began raising up. With strength and magic Metsuhai lifted it and threw it in arc. It looked promising at first. That huge thing coming at Airborg from above with great velocity, with no clear way for Airborg to dodge. Airborg simply took the rock head on, grabbing it with his claw covered arms. He was pushed down a bit, and then simply put the incredibly large boulder down.

"You can't possibly beat me in power contest. You're wasting your strength kid." Airborg was being honest, figuring out Metsuhai wasn't going to try that move again anyway. Metsuhai however was already on the move. Airborg did lower his altitude when bringing down that boulder and Metsuhai jumped right on him. The sword missed Airborg, who shot up fast like a bullet. But it was only half of Metsuhai's move. As he swung his blade, Metsuhai also released no less than four air-cuts. With so little distance!… But alas, Airborg dodged three of them. The forth almost got him, if it wasn't for his lazer-covered claws. The magically enhanced claws deflected the air- cut like it was nothing.

Metsuhai ignored his exhausted screaming body, beginning to concentrate a powerful energy attack, but that was when suddenly Airborg made his move. Eagle Diving Strike! Airborg launched himself on Metsuhai from high above, covering his claws with laser. His velocity increasing with each moment. Airborg was navigating with his wings to accurately smash into his victim.

Metsuhai knew he can't afford to be hit by this and instantly abandoned his attack, jumping to the side. Airborg almost tore off Metsuhai's head. It was so close. He was aiming to my chest at first, but adjusted his course according to my movement! His speed is terrifying but his accuracy and skill make this finishing move fatal. Good thing I dodged. Metsuhai was almost right. To his surprise, a small bleeding cut still opened on his cheek. Airborg smoothly finished the move, gracefully returning to the air.

Then, out of nowhere he was diving again. I am ready this time! Metsuhai stood still, in full concentration. He was holding his sword with both hands as if playing baseball. I have more reach, I'll use his own power against him. He was gambling his life on that.

Airborg closed the distance fast as lightning. With a final flap of his wings… Airborg was back in the air. He found a counter move, it seems. I don't know who would have won that exchange, but I'm smarter than that. This is not how I won 49 consecutive fights.

Airborg's damaged tail was swinging from side to side, still bleeding lava. "If you had hard time stopping one Airborg, what about five?"

Airborg hit his fist against his open palm. One moment he was just there, concentrating. Then there were five of them. When I use this move I can access only my most basic techniques, even my dives have to start lower for my parts to cooperate, but this isn't going to help you.

The Airborg army was attacking relentlessly. Metsuhai desperately tried defending and countering, but it was one against five. It was completely impossible. The gargoyles weren't just strong. Their cooperation was perfect. Distracting him from one side, then striking from another. Metsuhai's body got hit, cut and torn repeatedly. Whenever he swung his sword on them, they retreated higher to the air, never failing to counter attack from another direction. To his credit, Metsuhai kept fighting back, never even considering giving up. Trying to figure out what's going on and how is he gonna get himself out of it. These aren't illusions. Neither is any of them weaker than the original. This power is just unfair…

Metsuhai's movement inevitably became slower and his blows didn't have strength behind them. Double- power up or not, the bleeding wounds and extreme damage to his entire body took their toll. And Airborg couldn't miss it.

Satisfied Airborg flew up and became one again. He was sweating lava and breathing hard. The replication technique took a toll on him as well.

Metsuhai collapsed. He was completely out of strength, unable to get up. The extreme pain from his entire body was so bad it reminded him of the venom which tormented him in the past.

"Don't get me wrong kid. You fought well. No one ever gave me that much of a fight. But I'm undefeated. I always was. Well… all good things come to an end. And as a token of my appreciation I'll finish you off with the strongest move I've got."

Airborg took high to the sky, higher then ever. It was impossible to see him because he was at the direction of the sun. "No one ever fought me this long, goodbye mighty Mordon Destroyer." Final Dive of Death.

Metsuhai was on lying the ground, looking at it. It was a typical, rough, grey asphalt with nothing special about it except for a few cracks. Every organ in Metsuhai's body was screaming in pain, begging him to stay down. He didn't have strength left to get up, not to mention fighting. Airborg really knows how to fight. I guess this is how my journey ends. No shame in this loss, though. I really tried my best. Even chopped off his tail. For a moment Metsuhai imagined Lezner shouting on him to get up. Yeah, that's definitely what that abusive trainer would have done. But there is no point in getting up. I really want to live but sometimes it's not up to me. At least when I die the pain stops…

Metsuhai closed his eyes. Maybe soon I'll see John again. But something about that thought bothered Metsuhai beyond what he could put into words. And he knew why. Would John had given up here? No! Metsuhai clenched his fists despite the pain. I can't give up here even if that damn gargoyle shreds my body to pieces! I have too much what to live for! Chizue, Marco, and all my friends are counting on me. I still have many people to save that I must not disappoint. It seems I have forgotten a little bit. There are hordes of flesh eating demons I still have to slay. Besides, I made a promise to Koi that I absolutely must uphold to honor his memory. There is still so much I have to do. After all, there are beautiful things in this world worth protecting. Worth fighting for, killing for, suffering for, and even dying for. For a few moments all Metsuhai could feel was pain. Then he was up, bravely looking at his opponent. And at that very moment Metsuhai knew exactly what he must do. You may be stronger, faster and even have better technique then myself, truly you are invincible, Airborg. But I will show you the power of a man who wouldn't give up! Furthermore I think I have a plan. I will fight you- like no one ever fought before. Oh body, don't fail me now.

Airborg was hovering very high in the sky. So he can still stand up. That's one persistent kid… You shouldn't have clanged to life like that. Now I'm goona tear you to shreds.

Airborg dove down with tremendous velocity, flying faster than ever, covering his claws with lazer for the last time. Metsuhai couldn't avoid the descending attack, neither did he try. As the blow connected Metsuhai defended with both arms, covering them with energy. Blood flowed out of the damaged hands as the claws pierced through everything going into Metsuhai's chest. But Metsuhai did more than just defending. As the attack connected Metsuhai grabbed Airborg, accompanying him, going very high into the sky. Airborg was shocked. "What are you doing, I'm indestructible, and we are high in the air!"

I've seen Tsukiyama do this before. "Chain summon!" Metsuhai created a thick steel chain. With a beautiful acrobatic maneuver he wrapped the chain around Airborg's wings tying them hard. Struggling Airborg began losing height. Airborg tried to break free with all his strength, and he was strong. Metsuhai held onto the wings to prevent the chain breaking. The chains stretched and creaked under the immense pressure. Metsuhai's blood poured behind them as rain while they descend further and further. The ground was approaching fast. "You always relied on the wings and never bothered to learn to use flight magic, did you."

"Nooo!!!"

Airborg smashed into the ground with incredible velocity, taking most of the damage. Breaking asphalt and ground, Airborg's body made a crater upon impact. Metsuhai rolled off his back, landing hard. Ignoring his pain and wounds, Metsuhai forced himself up. Metsuhai was hurt, tired, and his left arm was smashed to bits. Hanging down, motionless. But Airborg who stood up clearly didn't know where he is. It was a knockout. Metsuhai approached with confident steps "Goodby Airborg. You indeed are invincible with 49 wins and one loss." Metsuhai pierced Airborg's heart, and Airborg began to fade, small particles detaching from his body. The force-field around the cool sunglasses flickered several times and disappeared. I fulfilled my promise, Koi. Metsuhai collapsed.
