The storm was indeed coming.
Kai didn't recognize it at first but something was subtly changing throughout their time being in the fake world. He wasn't quite sure what it was, but it was making his stomach turn. Now he knew why, because overhead a storm was turning. Not just any storm but a raging violent source of fury.
At that same moment rain began to fall. It wasn't pouring, just a drizzle, but judging by the looks of the grey stirring clouds behind them, Kai knew this light shower wouldn't be 'light' for much longer. Soon a hurricane would come washing away everything that was in its way, including the 3 mutated.
"Run!"
Loni's voice resounded through the thunderous roars from the sky as she began sprinting North. Kai wasn't sure how her voice managed to breach the air though, because the violent sounds were so loud it was a miracle his eardrums hadn't burst. Still he wouldn't be frozen in fear for a second time. So he began sprinting as well.
"Where are we running too!? There's no shelter out here!"
As Kai spoke the rain was already growing stronger, and the winds began howling like furious beasts.
"It's not about where we have to go, but what we're running from! If that storm catches us we'll be torn to shreds in seconds, our dormant bodies can't withstand it."
Kai didn't need to hear anymore. He wasn't some infant idiot boy, he knew how to survive- what it took… So he ran, he ran harder than he ever ran before, so hard in fact he actually ended up in the front of their small group. Loni was in the middle, and Karma remained in the back.
Kai thought that a part of Karma just wanted to make sure everyone got to safety, but when he turned his head to make sure he was still in one piece, annoyance entered his mind.
'The damn bastard is smiling. How can he wear that devilish grin at a time like this?'
Karma was born with unusually sharp teeth, so sharp they made him look almost like a shark that had somehow grown legs and two arms. This didn't bother him though, if anything he enjoyed being able to scare off anyone who messed with him or his family with just a glance.
It was just…
'The idiot always wore that wide ass smile in the worst times.'
"Wipe that stupid look off your face and focus on what's ahead of you, before you trip and get left behind!"
Karma ignored Kai's threats though and continued to stare at the mesmerizing chaos behind him.
Out in the dark cold sky the storm was growing.
'Could it even be classified as that anymore?'
Kai didn't know. It was almost like it had its own consciousness, and was awakened from a deep slumber. Kai could tell it wasn't happy to be woken up though, because the clouds began to funnel down in a slow eerie stature. Not one, not two, or even three funnel clouds formed, but a multitude of them that was almost too many to count.
In the next second the winds began to rush past violently, howling so loud it was like a pack of dire wolves had just come across their little group, and was ready to feast. The rain which was already getting more and more violent by the second, now turned to hail and began pelting the 3 mutated.
With the violent hail pushing them down and the chaotic wind slamming into them and pushing them off balance, it was beginning to get hard to run at full speed. Which was a problem, because even with all their efforts and their mutated physiques the group of 3 was still not quick enough to outrun the storm.
*BOOM, BOOM, BOOM*
The thunder was somehow becoming even louder. It's dreadful expanse washing over the group of 3 like a furious cacophony, bathed in chaos, ready to reap the benefits of its malicious hunt.
But Kai wasn't sure if that was because the storm was gaining on them, or because the fear in his heart was making it seem more intimidating. Either way it wasn't good. That's when things started to go downhill for this newly formed group of mutated.
Before, Loni had tried taming the irregular wind, making it easier for them to run through it, instead of getting swept away. But now the wind was just tyrannical. Loni was just mutated right now. Her affinity's endurance wasn't great, and at the same time she was constantly battling over control for the wind. she couldn't hope to stand a chance against whatever this was.
Then the Storm was fully upon them.
The hail was even more destructive now than ever. At a little over the size of golf balls it began pelting and leaving small cuts and bruises on the 3 adolescents. The wind was beyond what it was ever before, turning so strong and erratic, it was hard to even move. That's when Kai noticed small blades of emerald grass flying all around him.
'No way…'
With all its chaotic and mystical might, the storm was beginning to tear at the land around it. At first it was just blades of grass flying past, but soon small rocks were being thrown in the mix, and not long after small boulders of dirt and rock were being thrown about in the storm's parade of demolition.
"Shit! We can't withstand this! One of those funnels is already on our tail, and before too long we're gonna get sucked in and ripped apart."
Nor Loni or Kai responded to Karma's words but Kai could've sworn he saw what looked like a hint of a plan flash in Loni's eyes. Maybe that was just his own delusions though. The fear of death made a lot of people see the unseen.
It was then that Kai could feel the storm reach its peak. And man, how terrifying it was to be in the midst of death. A huge gust of raging wind rammed into Kai's side in the next moment, sending him off his feet and almost into a nearby funnel cloud. Luckily his body slammed into a huge boulder flying past, knocking him to the ground and sending a sharp pain through his rib cage.
"Kai!"
Karma screamed out and left Loni to prevent his brother from getting swept up in the storm.
"Wait, it's dangerous! Don't g-"
Loni went unheard though, because Karma was already dashing towards Kai the next second.
Thanks to the adrenaline Kai stayed conscious, but he still had the air knocked out of him. His body ached and screamed in protest when he lifted himself off the ground. When his blurry vision began to re-focus, he noticed Karma running towards him. He saw his mouth moving but due to the hit, his ears were still ringing. In the next moment they stopped though and Kai was able to discern a little of what Karma was saying over the raging wind.
"WATCH OUT!"
Looking to his left Kai spotted a large rock moving toward him at terrible speeds. But it was too late to react. With no time to dodge, it was inevitable the rock would hit him. But he wouldn't be able to withstand the blow, not after being slammed into a boulder 5 times his size.
Kai made a fatal mistake.
'Ah, so this is death. I really am just a waste of a soul…'
