Chapter 3 - A New Beginning

Planet Andora, City Kamast, Town Dera.

In the southern forest, a dead man suddenly opened his eyes.

Dark eyes. Pale complexion. Thin build. Height—approximately 1.75 meters.

Name—Alex.

"What… where am I?"

Alex groggily opened his eyes.

A sharp pain stabbed through his head. His entire body felt stiff, as if he had been lying in the same position for far too long. Even moving his arms felt like too much work.

He tried to get up, but every joint in his body popped and cracked.

But if anyone was used to pain, it was him.

He remembered how, when his father used to train him, he would beg, cry, say he couldn't take it anymore. He even tried to kill himself—an eleven-year-old attempting suicide.

That was the only time he ever saw his father falter, even a little.

He was given some time to rest. But from the next day, the training resumed—just as brutal.

Year after year, he was trained—or tortured—like a madman.

When he was 17, his father died. A long illness.

On his deathbed, Alex asked, "Why, Father? Why did you do all this to me? If you had an enemy, I could have killed him when I was nine. What was the purpose of it all?"

His father gave him only one answer:

"I promised someone. I gave my word that I'd protect his son. He was a king. I am the Royal Protector of this kingdom. I've done my best… but there were far too many enemies around us, and there's a limit to what a single man can do. I wanted to cross that limit. But I fell sick, and it couldn't be cured. So I made a promise to the King—that instead of me, my son would continue protecting this kingdom. Please forgive me, son. But you must protect it from harm."

And those were his last words.

At that time, Alex laughed—so hysterically, even he thought he might lose his mind. He laughed for hours.

People say when rage becomes too much… a person starts laughing.

"A fucking promise? If it was your promise, you should've kept it yourself! Why drag me into this, you BASTARD!" he screamed.

A few days later, he was free. No one to tell him what to do. He could finally do anything he wanted.

But he'd grown too used to the darkness. He never really left it.

Until 17, all he had done was train. Now, he had no one. Didn't know what to do. So he did something he never thought he would—

He became a Royal Assassin.

He killed on the King's orders. Became Deathwhisper. But he never truly felt alive.

Nothing excited him. No one could challenge him.

And then, before he died… he fulfilled his father's promise. Life is funny sometimes. He hated his father. But he never spoke to anyone else in his entire life, other than him.

He was the only one who ever knew him.

He felt pity for himself.

All kinds of thoughts circled in Alex's head.
