Backstory: Born an orphan in the underbelly of Elyria, Sophia grew up in the shadow of wealth and grandeur. She's known as "The Ghost" in the streets for how quickly she vanishes after a job. But despite her skills, she dreams of a better life—one where she's not just a pawn in the world of the rich.

The stars always looked different when you were hungry.

Sophia stood on the edge of a crumbling rooftop, gazing out over Elyria—the floating city that seemed too perfect to be real. Above her, the stars hung low, casting long shadows across the jagged skyline. To the nobles, the stars were treasures, sacred and untouchable. To Sophia, they were just lights, distant and cold, glowing in a world where people like her were nothing more than afterthoughts.

The soft flutter of her tattered cloak was the only sound in the night air. Her stomach grumbled, but the rumbling was drowned out by the rhythmic hum of the skyrails above. The wealthy rode in grand carriages, their seats cushioned by star-powered energy. They had everything, while Sophia had nothing but the shadows.

She should be working—making her way to the baker's district to snatch a loaf or two for the orphanage. But tonight was different. Tonight, she had to risk more.

A rumor had spread like wildfire among the street rats: a rare, unclaimed star—powerful enough to bring light to the entire district—was locked away in the vault of the high towers. One of the noble families was holding it. The problem? No one had dared to take it.

Sophia knew better than to take on a job like that, but hunger drove her, and a desire to change her fate. It was too big a score to ignore. So, she made her decision.

With practiced ease, she leapt from the rooftop and dropped onto the alley below. The sound of her landing was muffled by the thick fog that clung to the narrow streets. Her feet barely touched the cobblestones as she darted into the shadows.

The night was hers.

Her eyes locked on the towering structure ahead—The Tower of Emberlight, the home of the elusive Duke Cassian. Rumor had it that the Duke was an eccentric collector of rare objects, and in his vault was the star—a living one, glowing with enough power to rival the sun itself. She couldn't pass up an opportunity like this.

But as she neared the entrance, she froze.

A voice echoed from the shadows behind her. "You're not the only one interested in that star."

Sophia's heart skipped. She spun around, reaching for the dagger at her side, but there was nothing there. Not that she ever had a weapon worth wielding. Instead, she crouched, her silver eyes scanning the alley.

Three figures stepped from the shadows—tall, armored, and deadly. They didn't look like street thugs. Their armor was sleek and dark, and the way they moved suggested training, not just brute force.

"I don't want any trouble," Sophia muttered, backing up toward the vault entrance.

The leader of the trio, a man with a face hidden by a metal mask, chuckled. "Oh, but we do. We're here to take the star, little thief. And you're in our way."

Sophia's pulse quickened. She was no fighter—just a girl from the lower districts with quick hands and a clever mind. But she had nothing left to lose.

Without warning, she darted forward, aiming for the closest thug's legs. She kicked at his knees with all the speed she could muster. He stumbled back but caught himself, laughing cruelly. "You think you can stop us?"

Just then, a blur of motion came from the side. A tall figure—muscular, with messy red hair—barreled into the thugs. The man slammed his shoulder into one of them, sending him crashing into the wall. With a roar, he pulled a chipped sword from his back and swung it in a wide arc, knocking the second thug's weapon aside.

Sophia barely had time to process what had happened before the leader of the thugs turned toward the red-haired figure, growling. "You'll pay for that."

The man grinned, bloodlust in his eyes. "I'm counting on it."

Sophia watched in stunned silence as the two fought, the clang of steel ringing through the air. Her hands trembled, but something inside her stirred—a deep, unfamiliar feeling. Was it hope?

She took a step back, eyeing the vault once more.

This wasn't over yet.
