Mary ran with all her might, her heart pounding violently in her chest. The sound of the wolf's footsteps was still behind them, getting closer with every passing second. She felt like this might be the last moment she could escape. Her breath was shallow and quick, but she kept running. The closer the wolf got, the more it terrified her.
Then, they reached a spot and suddenly stopped. Mary, gasping for air, turned to see who had saved her. At that moment, she realized the girl in green had grabbed her hand, also out of breath, glancing behind them. The wolf had stopped chasing them.
Green-Dressed Girl: "It didn't follow us. We managed to escape."
Mary quickly pulled her hand out of the green-dressed girl's grip and looked at her angrily.
Mary: "You… how could you leave me behind?! Where did you come from now?! Seriously... liar... didn't you promise we'd leave the forest together?"
Green-Dressed Girl: "Well, we're leaving together now."
Mary: "Do you know how terrified I was? When I saw the wolf, I wished for death."
Green-Dressed Girl: "Now that we've escaped."
Mary lowered her head in anger and said, "But I don't want to be with you anymore."
Green-Dressed Girl: "Whether you want to or not, we're together."
Mary walked on indifferently, her steps quickening, while the green-dressed girl followed behind. After walking a few steps, the green-dressed girl raised her voice again.
Green-Dressed Girl: "I didn't leave you."
Mary: "What?"
Green-Dressed Girl: "I said you let go of my hand. Don't you remember?"
Mary laughed mockingly.
Green-Dressed Girl: "When we were going, you suddenly let go of my hand. I lost you in that darkness. No matter how much I looked for you, I couldn't find you… Do you remember letting go of my hand?"
Mary paused for a moment, thinking, then said with doubt, "I don't remember…"
Green-Dressed Girl: "If I had let you go, I wouldn't have come back to you, especially when there's a wolf right next to you."
Mary (surprised): "So I let go of your hand?"
Green-Dressed Girl: "Yes, but I know it wasn't on purpose, and you didn't even realize. When you screamed for the wolf to go away, I heard you and came after you. If I had let you go, I would never have turned back when the wolf was there."
Mary smiled and said, "Really?"
Green-Dressed Girl: "Mm-hmm…"
Mary smiled again.
As they continued walking . . .
