(Opening Scene: Zane and Astrid emerge from the woodlands and approach the imposing walls of Oakhaven. The city gates are bustling with people – merchants, travelers, and guards in well-maintained armor. The sounds of a thriving city fill the air.)
The sight of Oakhaven was a stark contrast to the isolated wilderness of the monster forest. Tall stone walls, reinforced with watchtowers, encircled a sprawling city of tightly packed buildings, their roofs a patchwork of terracotta and slate. The air hummed with the energy of a large population – the shouts of vendors, the clang of blacksmiths, the bleating of livestock.
Guards, clad in the city's colors, stood watch at the massive wooden gates, scrutinizing those entering and leaving. Astrid, with her noble bearing and familiar attire, was waved through with a respectful nod. Zane, however, drew more curious glances due to his worn clothes and the air of someone unaccustomed to city life.
As they passed through the gates, Zane was immediately struck by the sheer volume of people and the organized chaos of the city streets. Carriages rumbled along cobblestone roads, vendors hawked their wares from colorful stalls, and people from all walks of life bustled about their business.
Astrid led Zane through the crowded streets with an air of familiarity. As they walked, Zane noticed several young individuals, perhaps a bit older than himself, who carried themselves with a similar air of confidence to Astrid, some even displaying subtle hints of elemental power – a flicker of flame on a fingertip, a gentle breeze swirling around them.
"There," Astrid said, gesturing towards a large, well-maintained building with intricate stonework and several training yards visible within its high walls. Banners bearing a stylized crest of intertwined elements – fire, water, earth, and air – fluttered in the breeze. "That is the Lumina Academy."
Zane looked at the building, a sense of curiosity stirring within him. It seemed like a place of learning, but the visible training yards suggested something more martial.
"The Lumina Academy?" he asked, his voice a bit overwhelmed by the city noise.
"Yes," Astrid replied. "It's where individuals with inherent powers come to train, to hone their abilities and learn to use them responsibly. Many of the city's protectors and leaders have passed through its halls."
She paused, her stormy eyes turning to Zane with a thoughtful expression. "They hold an entry test once a year, next month in fact. Given… your unique talents… perhaps it's something you should consider."
Zane looked back at the Lumina Academy, a seed of an idea planting itself in his mind. A place to understand and control his own strange powers? It was a tempting prospect, especially now that he was in a world where such abilities seemed to be more common.
